    Did you adjust the spring preload before you installed them? If not, chances are the spring is bouncing on the seat because there is too much play. Check and re-tighten all locking collars and make sure they are tight against the lower cup. I had one loose and it made noise over bumps. Make sure to torque the suspension bolts under load and check and re-torque every nut and bolt you removed to install them. Also keep in mind, you just installed brand new stiff suspension parts and if the rest of your suspension is worn out (ball joints/bushings/end links especially) you are going to hear new noises because the new parts don't have the "give" like the parts you replaced. If you still hear the noise after you set preload and torque everything down, it might be time for a suspension refresh.

    Five Five Garage Thank you so much. No the mechanic did not set preload on springs. I will make sure is done then and stiffened when i add the new wheels and tires. Thank you i was worried. I didn't max it out, I am around 2" from the pinch welds to the ground. It could go lower, but all of my bushings are shot, so it is a shimmying mess. How to adjust the dampening on the rear coilovers? I have them on my NC Miata and when i bought it it already came with them. I adjusted the fronts but idk about the rears

  • @FiveFiveGarage

    @FiveFiveGarage

    5 жыл бұрын

    Open the trunk and look for where the rear shock hats are (where the rear suspension bolts in). There should be a knob there, if not then there should be a knurled shaft sticking up out the rear shock hat. That is where the dampening is adjusted. You may have to remove a trim panel in the trunk to be able to see them.

    If you are coming from stock, they will be noticably stiffer. If you stay near stock ride height, the ride quality is very good, if you are trying to slam it to the ground the ride will be harsh, but that is with any coilover. I am currently about 1.5" lower than stock and it feels 👍

    It should be close, I first measured the stock suspension and then changed the Megan setup to match it when I installed. If your car is a NA6 (mine is a NA8) the difference in the shock hat design is going to lower the front of the car.

    Why aren’t camber plates used on the EZII coils?

  • @FiveFiveGarage

    @FiveFiveGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Camber plates work on suspension that use struts, like my Mazdaspeed 3. By moving the top of the strut in or out you can change the camber, because the strut plays a part in the location of the upper suspension relative to the vehicle. Coilovers for strut suspended cars need camber plates, especially when you lower them as it is the only way to adjust camber. Miatas on the other hand, have a double wishbone suspension (upper and lower a-arms) that handles the location of the suspension and the camber and caster can be adjusted by eccentric bolts in the lower a-arms. Camber plates won't do anything on this type of suspension because moving the top of the shock has no impact on the camber. The upper a-arm holds things in place, adjusting the eccentrics moves the lower a-arm in and out and that adjusts the camber.

    What's the ride comfort like? And what's the dampening feel max hard vs max soft?

  • @FiveFiveGarage

    @FiveFiveGarage

    5 жыл бұрын

    My bad dude, I replied to the wrong comment LOL! The Megans ride well, compared to the original stock suspension (which was the original and the car has 156K on it), it was a definite improvement. I am sitting about 1.5 inches lower than stock and for the most part the car rides well. You will not mistake these for stock, they ride like a coilover, it will soak up small bumps, big ones you know you hit, notably they do rebound quick, most of the time I feel the single bounce on compression and that is it. My tires are some old Michelins that need replacement, I am sure with better tires (with a bit more sidewall) the ride would be better. Max hard to max soft, there is a difference, I wouldn't recommend daily driving them set to max hard, the ride is very harsh, to the point of being skittish over uneven surfaces (this could also be down to the tires being crap), when I autox this car I will probably dial up the dampening as it does seem to make the car feel more responsive. Max soft is too soft for me, I didn't get the same kind of steering responsiveness and wheel inputs felt sluggish. Right now I think I am 5 or 6 clicks from max soft front and rear. I can say that the ride has improved, but I really need to replace my bushings all around to really tighten up the car! (sorry for the earlier response, I thought it was for another video!)

  • @FiveFiveGarage

    @FiveFiveGarage

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you are looking for a softer ride, I would look into adjustable struts are available for your car first. These would keep the stock suspension lengths and allow the use of your stock springs, but have the ability to change the dampening to soften up the ride. Coil overs typically are shorter shock stroke than the stock struts, while they are adjustable, they will not ride as soft as the OEM's.
