The part where Megamind is being 'Space Daddy' to Titan (Hal), he is parodying Superman (1978). He specifically parodies Marlon Brando as Jor-El, father of Kal-El (Superman).

18:55 "what is this move?" When playing charades, one person is acting something out and can't talk. When another player guesses correctly, the silent person points at the guesser with one hand and touches her nose with the other because she isn't supposed to talk. I believe the signal is based on the phrase "on the nose", meaning obvious, but I could be wrong. This hand sign has been integrated into American culture. Tighten was indicating that Megamind was correct that Tighten had used his powers for selfish gain.

It sucks this movie came out after _Despicable Me_ , this is the superior film. The "Shool" bit is an inside joke because one of the animators is named Robert Schoolcraft, pronounced the Dutch way (Shool-kraft). "Space Dad" is based on Marlon Brando playing Superman's dad Jor-El in _Superman_ (1978), but Ferrel is doing an impression of Marlon Brando as Michael Corleone from _The Godfather_

Motherlode is a mining term, describing the main vein of a metal, as opposed to minor deposits. It's the jackpot, in whatever context its applied. The pointing to your own nose thing is from the game charades, where you mime a word or phrase. It's the gesture you make when someone correctly guesses your word, because they got it "on the nose".

It's also worth noting that while Megamind had the option to give himself Metroman's powers he chose to give them something else. To make an opponent obviously but it also indicates that Megamind knows deep down that as the "evil" one he has to be the one that loses. It's only when Hal declines to take him to jail that he triggers his copper ball fail safe.

There is a second movie and a TV show coming out on March 1, so just a couple days. They're made-for-streaming, so much lower budget. Basically made a movie and 16 episodes on about 0.38% of the budget of the original movie. So, obviously, the animation will be a bit jankier. However, we don't quite know how the story is turning out, yet. A lot of people are jumping to conclusions, but they forget that with the original movie, a lot of people went in thinking it was Megamind VS Metro Man! And it turned out not to be that at all. Same writers, but I'm sure they had less time to work on it so it probably won't be as tightly written overall. Also G-rated. So, the sequel movie/show may be fun, but they'll also be for small kids and haven't had as much time and money put into them. But who knows. Maybe there will be more theatrical releases in the future. The original writers are still on board.

👤 Beginning with their first two films back in 1998 ("Antz" and "Prince Of Egypt"), Dreamworks Animation's main modus operandi of filling all of their movies with extremely familiar voices was set in place. Even more than Disney, the studio revolves heavily around the use of A-list vocal talent. If you enjoyed this one then you'll definitely also enjoy "Monsters vs Aliens" which came out a year earlier (2009). It has a similar vibe to it, and it's got a lot of stuff that appeals to both kids and adults. 👽👍

Megamind is a delicate language-play that must be enjoyed in English. Foreign markets drive a lot of the animation market, so losing the comedic balance of this program lessened the likelihood of a sequel, besides, the story team had a very big field day, so getting another script to this level would have taken time.
