Very cool! Love how deep that spear went, it's no joke. And if you had a perfect megalodon tooth I bet it would cut and stab incredibly well as all megalodon teeth were once very sharp and finely serrated. Most of the ones you will find however have been rolling around in sand and on beaches for millions of years and worn down smooth. Only dug ones or freshly eroded ones will still be serrated and sharp but they are rare and a lot more expensive.

@GunOwnerDan ya, the tiger and bull shark teeth slice through just about anything with ease, I thought about sharpening the megalodon tooth but part of me just didn’t want to detract from its state. I actually missed the block and hit the plywood once haha, did nothing but leave an indentation into the wood. Would cause some serious damage even as is!

The one shark tooth spear was used for cutting its way back out when in a body, on its way out it would cut and tear flesh or organs.

These are your interpretations of actual pieces?? The first weapon was massively oversized and bulky, I know you are going for heft but the originals were just not like this... and the megaladon tooth is your design I take it?

Aloha! The Somoan Nifo’oti that was used in battle was most commonly made from a metal blade and always had a hook on the back side, though some wood pieces were found dating back. True my piece is a bit large but it is more ceremonial, it is a combination of cultures. Koa wood only grows in Hawai’i and Samoan weapons almost never employ embedded shark teeth, that was heavily a Hawaiian practice. All of the weapons I re create either combine different designs from Polynesian cultures or stick to one. I was lucky enough to work for a Maori/Tongan carver which is were I started my craft. But the weapons are modern re creations that I take inspiration from ancient designs. Each pieces design has a rooted feature. The size actually isn’t too un realistic however but something that large would likely.be user as an execution weapon.

  • @KoaStudio

Yes, the megalodon tooth club is my design, there are no records of those fossils being used that I am aware of. I took inspiration from the Fijian war club (Gata) but rather then a wood edge I embedded the megalodon tooth. One of the biggest traditions passed in Hawaiian culture is to never waste, use what is available and take care of what you have. So I like to imagine if they had access to a natural supply or megalodon teeth they would have user them in some fashion or another. 😊

  • @KoaStudio

Not that I am aware of. I picked the Fijian design because it looked like it would fit well with the shape. Most megalodon teeth that are found I think are found in the Atlantic... but Hawaiians and ancient Islanders were experts at utilizing the resources they had, so I have no doubt that if they did find some they would have done something with it 😁

@@KoaStudio ok but awesome idea anyway!!! Imagine man at the time of megalodon, who knows, maybe they did use meg teeth as weapon blades! Cool to think about.
