The manual says to not drink the first gallon because it cleans out the lines. I didn't put the filter in for the first gallon, because if they don't want me to drink it, I don't want to contaminate a filter with it.

We recently bought one of these. I also obtained a water tester (TDS meter). The water which this gives has only 1 to 2 ppm of solids after filtering. We bought an extra glass jug with it so we can run two loads and have water in reserve. This will pay for itself as we no longer have to buy bottled water. You can also add trace minerals back in if you are concerned about drinking pure water.

@@adastra. the entire reason you buy a water distiller is to remove anything that isn’t water. Adding trace minerals back in is to water that you’ve distilled defeats the purpose of distilling it. If you’ve bought a distiller, odds are you are aware that inorganic minerals do not provide any benefits in water and actually cause harm over time as they build up in your body.

Thank you. Great info. Ours came with a vague instruction sheet written in broken English as a lot of products do these days. It had nothing about the charcoal filters and where they needed to go. I was going to put one in the main chamber, but after watching I unclipped the outlet and found a sachet already in there. Again, there was absolutely no information on the instructions about the outlet or charcoal sachet location. Lucky I watched this before doing what I thought I should.....and stuffing things up. 10 points to you good sir.

I have the exact same one. But after 2.5 years of use I'm seeing the bottom of the distiller is wearing to point that it seems to be leaking from small divited areas where the heating element was welded on. A yellowish crust was forming at the outside bottom, and the inside appears to have divits in the stainless steel that are cracking. Wish I could fix this but will hopefully be able to get another one under warranty.

So I bought a similar one to this but mine is progammable so you can do water, wiskey or anything else as long as you know the boiling point of the liquid that you are interested in. I find if you preheat the water before starting you get approx 1 litre per hour at 850w per hour so thats twice the price of a 2 l bottle of Aldi water not taking into account the cost of petrol to go to the store and the slight contamination of plastic from the bottle so thats 20p per litre. One thing I noticed on a lot of the reviews that people show was the stuff thats left in the bottom of the pot. The first time I used it I let it boil to empty and even thought the tap water was "clean" there was a tea spoon of brown gunk left. so I never let it boils dry, and never fill it all the way up to the top, just half it then top its up every hour. I wonder if Rogers still uses his.

Only time I ever drink that much is during the peak of summer when I'm labouring outdoors and a cool drink of water is a godsend. Don't forget if you have soup or stew that's mostly water as well. Maybe a gallon of water in total a day but if you're having a gallon of water on its own you'll be at the urinal all day.

I have a question, I bought a used one of these, and I could hear it boiling inside, but I wasn't getting any water coming out so I got scared it was gonna blow and I turned it off. I had no idea it took 45 minutes for the distilled water to start coming into the carafe. Can you hear your water boiling inside? I only hear the fan on yours. I'm going to try it again. So thanks! Oh, and just a pointer, don't drink the first batch and check the spout for an old charcoal filter if you buy a used one. This unit has a manual off/on switch AND an automatic turn on/off switch. That's what we want. But can't find it on amazon. The only one I found has an automatic switch button but no manual on/off button and must unplug it to turn it off manually if you want it off before it's automatic cycle.

@@bizzaromicky71 Both are OK. This distiller doesn't actually run dry so it's not a major issue, but if you can leave a bit more water in the bottom (turn it off a bit early) it's easier to clean.
