Could you compare the 2008 reissue/remaster with the 2004 remix or with the original or with both? I've been able to hear the 2008 reissue, and it is definately better than the 2004 remix. It basically has the energy/dynamacy of the original taken up a notch, which is how a remaster should be. The depth too of the production is also taken to a new level, with more power in the drums, and guitar/bass tones, mixed with the original vocals. Instead of sounded processed or flat/sterile, it sounds likes it has depth. Would highly recommend it.

@@winterunterseher8937 here's the reason: the audio to digital equipment needed to convert the signal has influence on the tone. I don't have a record player and even if I did, the A to D equipment needed for it would influence the tone, compared to someone else who may just be listening directly to the vinyl. I don't want to misrepresent the sound of the album and that's why I avoid this. Good question thought, thanks for this, I pinned it for others who may read this.

@@metal_helm Thank you! Yeah I understand, you want to have the fairest comparison you can right? You definately want to have the most accurate sound you can. I myself as well, don't have a record player either, but I would like to one day. I mostly listen to vinyl versions (though I also mostly listen to digital/streamed versions) through vinyl rip files online, when I'm curious as to hoe something sounds in vinyl and if it's different from the version I'm so used to hearing. Sometimes the quality on the vinyl rips can be hit or miss, but I found some good ones. But nonetheless, thanks for the response!

The original sounds less bland but the mix favors highs and lows a little too much compared to the mids. The guitars and snare are kinda buried. @@metal_helm Like I said in the Countdown to Extinction video. Guitars have too much mid. Snare drum seems to be a completely different snare. I think the bass guitar is a little bit too much on this album, particularly in Hangar 18. I'm not saying the 2004 is bad. I like it on certain songs (the start of Five Magics for example). I think they went overkill in trying to get the drums to match modern metal album standards, as a result of which, everything else needed to be boosted and it just became too much. I like listening to the 2004 version in the car, but if I'm listening on headphones it has to be the original..... And the less said about Take No Prisoners, the better. How they thought that vocal take was good enough is beyond me. Forget about the performance. But the vocals actually clip. Horrendously so. Who was recording that and thought, "good take"?

Original Pros: Heavier and more menacing sound Cons: Volume is quieter (I ripped the original CD in flac format and I can tell) Remaster Pros: Louder guitars, louder bass, and detailed vocals. The 3 demos and My Creation. I like the alternate versions of Lucretia and Take No Prisoners despite the vocals not being the same as the original. Cons: A lot. Bass is louder but it sounds softer, for example, the bass solo in Take No Prisoners. The drums are unbearable in most songs (Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Poison Was The Cure, Dawn Patrol) and take away the aggressiveness of the original. The Five Magics version is not too bad but is just meh. The robotic vocals in Polaris were removed which kinda kills the essence of the original but the song it's still enjoyable.

I have the remaster and the original. I like both in it's own way. The drums and bass in remaster sounds kind of cool. Original is better but it sounds fresh on remaster. It's something different. The vocals are sometimes not as the original cause I hear some files got lost. Mustaine rerecorded some vocals. But that makes the album cool. I have my originals. You can go download all the old originals from brazilian websites with artwork. Just type bands name discografia. You get passwords and download rar. Files. The quality is good. 230kbps or something. It is very loud and good quality mp3. Can not hear a difference. I play them and keep my originals safe these days.

This is probably the only Megadeth album that I feel like the 2004 remaster may have actually benefitted it. It seems like there's more "space" with the 2004 remaster. I still feel like the drumkit is a bit weak, yet feels stronger than the original. Dave's vocals strangely sound weaker in the 2004 version, however. It almost sounds like he was trying to re-record them and wasn't quite hitting the notes. I am surprised to declare that I actually prefer the 2004 remaster of Rust In Peace.

The 2004 remix of this record is a joke. It's mixed in the style of the 2004 metal era which is thick, compressed, and bloated. The original was not to be touched. The fact that Dave re-sang Take No Prisoners is such a miss. The only album that needed remastering was their debut. But he should've left them all alone. Have confidence in your art, Dave. Don't be someone forever tinkering with things that are done.

Top to bottom I was APPALLED by the 04 the first time I heard it. Take No Prisoners and Five Magics made me a convert, 4 years before the remix. I hadn't heard much, but I have now, and it's still Great. It would have failed for that alone, but it also has everything else wrong with it. NO SIR I DON'T LIKE IT. The original Rust disc is one of the best P4P sounding cds I have. Then again it's the same glorious stereo I first heard it on!

This was the video that I found out that the Megadeth 2004 remasters aren’t so good.. Out of all of the 04’ remasters, I’d have to say this is a contender for the worst. It follows a lot of the common tropes, like the re-recorded drums and bass. But I think they used different vocal tracks for certain songs? (Take no prisoners, five magics, there may be more)
