what all these guitarsts have in common is that they are really good but they have never made any hits so i think the way forward is either to have marty back in the band, or have kiko and temu while dave stop playing guitar, or have dave kiko , or as i think dave and metu because i think kiko has quit

Dave is a lucky guy.. He has played with some of the best in the world. There is not one Megadeth lead guitarist he has had that is bad. They have all brought their own style to the music. Some say Dave is unlucky to not ever have a permanent lineup. I say he’s lucky to share the stage with so many greats.

These greats are not coming to megadeth for nothing,u know.... No luck at all here.

Teemu is indeed the best guitarist Megadeth has ever had. The ultimat test is the Symphony of destruction solo. No one, I mean no one has evern been able to land this solo cleanly from beginning to end the way Teemu has - not even friedman. To the amateur guitarist or average metal listener, other solos are more difficult, but the solo in Symphony of destruction has very specific nuances that make it the hardest and Temmu completely owns it. The only time that solo has sounded better is when it was recorded for the album. While friedman is still the most unique player ever to be in megadeth and probably the most unique lead metal guitarist ever, Teemu takes the cake in terms of execution.

He's been a "hidden" gem to most of the metal world, at least those not familiar with Wintersun. But when you try to say who is "better" among the best players in the world, it's just a futile endeavor, it comes down to who YOU like more.

He sounds like early 80s Malmsteen with.some Impellliteri and Jason Becker vibes.

Teemu is a pure epicness. I like both Kiko and Teemu. Either one will continue...Megadeth is good place lead guitarist wise. I just saw very recent Mustaine interview where he said that he has ATLEAST two albums in him.

Marty is indeed a great guitarist when it comes to solo writing and have unique techniques. But come on man, Teemu nailed em all including vibratos and stuff. So I would say that Teem has the "Perfect Execution of Solos" or how it is supposed to be played, an important talent every guitarists supposed to have.

Just because he nailed them doesn’t make him better than Marty. A lot of people can cover these solos.

Something important to note is that while Teemu is nailing these solos..they aren’t his. Winter Madness, along with ALL Wintersun material was exclusively written and recorded by Jari. Teemu is also in Smackbound. I’m unsure how much he contributed to writing, but it is 100% him on the albums. Check out the guitar work and solo on “Reap” from their recent album. Phenomenal.

Yep. Looks like Jari might have to go back to singing AND playing again lol. Depending on what's really going on with Kiko, that is. Hard to know at this point if Wintersun is even a band anymore, though with no Nightwish tour for the foreseeable future, it might be a good time to get into the studio and record something new next year. Oh wait...sorry, I was dreaming there for a sec hahaha. Either way, nice to see Teemu getting some love though...great guitarist, and about as chill a dude as you can find.

Incredible player! Effortless was spot on! Compared to Marty though… not the same. Players like Marty, Steve Vai, Zakk Wilde, Eddie VanHalen, Yngwie and Alan Holdsworth to name a few are not only incredible players but they stand out in how they play each note… you could have any of the above mention play the same solo or melody line and you would know who was playing it. That, to me is where the bar is set. Temu and Kiko are amazing guitarist absolutely but they don't have the magick something of individualism and expression that Marty has. Please, please understand that I have to the utmost respect for these guys and their incredible talent but guys like Marty and the above mentioned guitarist have that something extra that is unique to them only and there is no comparison for that gift. My 2¢

Marty and Kiko are the opposite sides of the same coin - both very unique lead metal players. What's interesting with Teemu is that everything seems very effortless for him to play. It's not just technique, he's got feel too.

He is a good fit for Megadeth but it's hard to say who is better. Marty is a pioneer and helped create a style of music. Was Teemu inspired by people like Marty?

Search "Megadeth - "A Tout Le Monde / Tornado of Souls" (9/17/23) Hard Rock Live (Atlantic City, NJ)" and check out Teemu's solo on Tornado of Souls from last week. Best Tornado solo I've heard from him yet, actually best one I think I've ever heard live. I think he's got it under his belt now. \m/

Impossible to compare great guitar players... Marty is truly one of a kind, he helped mold the band Megadeth and created some of the most epic solos known to metal... Being able to play someone else's souls does make you a great guitarist, but creating the music at the time and era is what is most important in my opinion. Marty could be copied, but he can never be duplicated. There area many many young guitars and drummers that are faster and more technical than the men of yesterday, but they are no where near being the creative monsters that these guys were back in the day. Look at that new drummer from Spain that is an absolute machine, but he's robotic, he can play every song that Nick menza created but he will never have the nuances and the soul of nivk menza. Dave Mustaine should be very proud of having some of the best musicians the world has ever seen, and I suppose a lot of that is just timing, but it's been fantastic.

Teemu is a great guitar player, I understand that Mustain is looking for a metal guitarist that match his metal history background it can't be with the new generation because they are looking for some new wave of metal writing and still playing with megadeth will be a childhood dream come true. The bettet thing to do at this stage if kiko dosen't come back of course is to call Marty and end up the band carrer with a great come back vibes within the old band family🤘🤘

Peace Sells my fav album and Chris Poland the GOAT. Dave still hasn't had the ultimate yet though - MAB in Megadeth.

Teemu is obviously very talented. To say he's better than Marty Friedman is an opinion. What has he written? The speed and execution is cool for about 30 seconds. When driving down the road, cranking my stereo, I prefer to listen to catchy, creative hooks.

Marty is still the best, Kiko and Teemu are both great to, and surely can bring good stuff to Megadeth as well, especially i think a touch of youth in Megadeth suits, and gives something new, Marty is still the best imo, but its refreshing to see this new setup as well. Well i think i still have to go with Rust in peace as favorite album, as many others do, its just a great album.

now watch Jari perform this solo, same or better technicality with more SOUL. Jari's bends, his hammers, his tapping...Jari is my favourite obviously. That being said, the fact the Jari AGREED to let Teemu perform his solo already says A LOT (Jari is a perfectionist b*tch haha)

I Saw Teemu in Minnesota. Facts. He respects the style of the players who wrote the material better than any Megadeth guitarist ever. I hate the "Rating" people go to, especially shredder people. No such thing as "best", but for those who go there, writing music people want to hear must be part of the rating. Marty is a godfather to the style and his writing/composing is choice. That being said, I think Teemu should stay. He is incredibly talented. It was the most fun I have had at a Megadeth show. He just does it, no BS.

Friedman still the best. Marty did those solos man.. how about teemu do his own solo in megadeths song vs the original solos of marty. Like Eddie did to Beat It vs Steve Vai's Version, Slash etc. But no one Beat Eddie's solo. Now Teemu show us your own version of solo if it fits to those songs or not.

Never heard of him, the new guy. Marty has arranged and composed unique solos that no one can compare , it's not speed or the sweeps. It's the notes he's bending that kicks arse.

of course Teemu is better as a guitarist, even the dust knows that

To me this Teemu guy sounds like a mix between Tony MacAlpine and Yngvie Malmsteen.

Have you ever listen to "Open Source" solo album by Kiko Loureiro? Teemu Is a great soloist in metal music but Kiko Is a great composer. Sometimes a great soloist Is not capable to compose great music. Same thing for Chris Broderick, great soloist but poor composer

Maybe because Kiko Is a great composer like Plini and in 2020 both of them come out with a solo album that rewrite the concept of modern progressive music. "Open Source" by Kiko and "Impulse Voices" by Plini was better of every metal album from the last 20 years

Anyone, lol. Not even anyone can play this stuff at 50% speed and sitting on their bed at home, no matter how hard they practice. It is totally different thing to play these at live. Teemu is the only guitarist who really nails all these solos at live, and Kiko is very close second. Marty is my favorite and best songwriter, but I have ears, and I'm a guitarist too...well I was.

@@NightwishArena Lots of players can play these solos though. Paul Gilbert would have little problem, nor would Guthrie Govan. I'd love to see Max Ostro with Megadeth. That kid has some chops.

NO one is better than Marty he may no be super clean or accurate but no one has the phrasing and melodic control of Marty. Is dosnt matter if you can play ultra fast solos if they don't sound unique or exotic as Marty does.

Teemu is extremely talented, but this solo was written by Jari Maenpaa.

Nobody was better than Marty for Megadeth. RIP, Countdown, and Youthanasia were his best. After that, (Risk, etc), they kinda fell off and I lost interest. But he was so innovative. I don't think anyone could have come up with what he did. And his Megadeth work really doesn't sound like his Cacophony work either, IMO. Chris Poland was unique as well, with his Jazzy legato. Teemu may be more technical, but there are lots of guys that can play anything nowadays.

Obviously a well trained guitar player, good technique and all. The only thing as far as I'm concerned is the music he writes. I was never into classical music incorporated in metal, ever. I trully believe that metal should stay metal. Direct, aggressive, but in other way, obviously other than classical. I believe that these bouncy, jiggly riffs have really nothing to do with metal music. We saw them played by Malmsteen and it tend to become boring. When I think what metal is supposed to sound what comes to mind is Judas Priest, is Slayer, is Pantera, obviously Metallica and Megadeth. All these north european metal bands, or heavy/power german ones, well, they sound the same. Friggin' happy music. Jeff Hanneman once said he hated happy music. I don't hate it, I just don't get it. Virtuosity in metal should look different. Take for example Chuck Schuldiner. Well, in my opinion he delivered the maximum virtuosity metal should have.

Megadeth will never have an old guitarist at this point, besides Dave....and I think that's the driving home point. Maybe I'm being pointless...if so, point taken.

Marty was the best Guitar player Megadeth had.

Teemu is the best player of them all, maybe even the best period. You can clearly see that while watching these live videos. So clean and nailing all the nyances, that even Marty himself did never do at live. Marty is still the best songwriter and my favorite Megadeth lead guitarist. Kiko is also better player than Marty, and I have really enjoyed his time in Megadeth.

Temuu is just playing songs of someone else..nothing special..you tube is packed with these clips..

whatever teemu did there, marty did it on cacophony x10 times better. and he influenced x1000000 more people. teemu ISNT technically better than marty(cause of cacophony), he hasnt the half of the knowledge of marty's music theory and exotic scales and he has no legacy. he is a young guitarist with few songs under his belt and he did some covers of marty's work. that's what he is.

Teemu is technically better, no question about that.I'm pretty sure he even knows the theory better. Don't get me wrong, Marty is still my favorite Megadeth lead guitarist, but he wasn't that tight at live. Sure he has influenced more players (but none of them actually sounds like Marty...so is it only inspiring then?), and he is one of the most unique sounding metal guitarists ever. But this kind of comments like yours makes me wish that Teemu won't continue with Megadeth, but that he gets his own band and conquers the world with it.

@@NightwishArena have you actually listened to any guitar solo/duel from marty and jason back in cacophony? if you had then u d know that esp then he was on another level. cacophony was practically an underground band but influenced more pro guitarists today than a lot of well knowned bands. also about theory in music you have an ocean of content from marty experimenting in shred, neo-classical, speed, thrash, heavy and more melodic music. knowing how to play around all of these genres makes him by default the guy that has more knowledge in theory and how to apply it.

@@NightwishArena i liked wintersun songs, but that comparison vs marty or poland is killin all guitarists. Doesnt mather how good they do tornado of souls, they arent able to compose it. Marty has a peculiar taste for scales, bendings, vibrato and expression. No kiko, broderick or whatever can do it. Al pitrelli had good feelin playin too.

Teemu is a great player but the point is how he writes in original Megadeth songs.

You seriously make money “reacting” to content… wow what a drain on society…

always the same song... since marty left always the same song.... the new shredder is gonna be the ultimate megadeth look how he plays tornado of souls.. tons of "youtubers" praysin the new messias of guitar who is gonna reinvent the megadeth solos.... NO marty was the perfect match for megadeth and made the best albums and SOLOS. nobody came close. dont care how many notes he can play or sweep picking, they re fuckin boring. Marty had an unique sound/style and matched perfectly with megadeth.

Marty is an untouchable. I’d also say Kiko is right behind Marty

Marty is indeed a great guitarist when it comes to solo writing and have unique techniques. But come on man, Teemu nailed em all including vibratos and stuff. So I would say that Teem has the "Perfect Execution of Solos" or how it is supposed to be played, an important talent every guitarists supposed to have.
