Megablast / メガブラスト (Arcade) Completed No Deaths - 1CC, No-Miss ALL [4K]

Ойындар

Megablast is an obscure horizontal shooter that Taito released in 1989. It's a pretty short game to clear, and also fairly simple. Your ship starts with pods that fire in the 4 cardinal directions, giving you a lot of firepower to take down enemies.
I do like the soundtrack, and references to other Taito games / characters as mid-bosses was cool.
The story is pretty crazy and filled with silly grammar mistakes, all while a rendition of the classic Fantasie-Impromptu in C-Sharp Minor plays. Please check it out after my run completes and I let the attract mode play (at 19:45) - you'll be glad you did!
This gameplay was recorded using wolfMame .261, button 1 had autofire set to 20Hz. Dips were set at default. As with all my runs - no TAS (tool assistance), cheats, hacks, or save states are used.
Thank you for watching!

One of Taito’s lesser known shmups. Great clear the hardest part I find is trying to keep hold of the special power up from stage 3 without accidentally running into blue power ups. Will you ever try to beat Jacelo Earth Defense Force? Arcade or snes

thanks! The game gives you no clue that this is the weapon to keep or even have it show up later. I was hoping to keep it until the end to make the final boss go down quicker, but it still worked out. Earth Defense Force looks pretty cool, I've never tried it before but I might check it out in the future. appreciate you checking out my run!

Out of interest, is autofire cheating or give you an advantage as the official machine wouldn't have come this way?

I would never consider autofire "cheating" unless someone tried to say they didn't use auto when they actually did. In most games, of course using autofire is an advantage over someone not using it. But anyone can play with that same advantage, so the playing field is level (if you're talking about high scores or competition). The shmup / STG community will usually have a split scoreboard if autofire presents a big advantage over not using auto. Autofire use is covered pretty in-depth in great a video by The Electric Underground: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKuVm5WTltvYZ7Q.html and also this video to supplement it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHuimstpqcufg84.html To address the original machine not coming this way: My personal understanding is most games in Japan shipped with just a PCB, manual, and possibly artwork to use on a generic "candy" cabinet. The arcade operator would take game PCB being played less than others (and therefore earning less money) out of the machine and simply change the game board and artwork and presto...he's got a new game ready to be played. At a certain point, autofire is something that most game developers knew and/or assumed the Japanese arcade operators were adding to their cabinets. The operators that listened to their players' feedback and did install autofire circuits would be more popular (and therefore earn more money), so most operators eventually did the same to not lose business. Another thing to consider is that autofire makes many games accessible to those with RSI (repetitive strain injuries) or carpal tunnel issues. When you get older like me, the choice is I either can't play the game at all, or I can play it and use autofire. So it's not really a choice at all... Hope that answers your question, thanks for commenting!
