Meg Home (Olson Kundig & Dowbuilt)

Ғылым және технология

Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig and Jim Dow of Dowbuilt discuss their work with Brombal & a recent project: Meg Home, an amazing Seattle residence featuring Brombal windows and doors. Large windows create stunning views and an operable glass wall blurs the lines between the indoors and out.

The work that Kundig does is always remarkable. The materials used to make all openings are the same as used for all structural needs. It's part of the clarity and unity of the design and the experience. Steel makes ideal window frames that are durable and beautiful. Aluminum or vinyl windows don't have the same integrity, strength, or connection to the structure.

The price difference between aluminum framed windows and steel framed is ridiculous and unnecessary. They make 100% aluminum auto engine blocks and their performance is lighter and just as strong. It’s true steel frames can maximize glazing a bit, but at their costs it’s not really necessary.

How are steel windows more secure (Kundig), glass can easily be broken?
