    For me the best thing in this movie is the villain; Bowler Hat Guy is pretty damn funny at some points. "I know! I'll turn him into a duck! Yesss, it's so evil! Oh... I don't know how to do that... and I don't really need a duck... This is harder than I thought."

    Something I discovered recently-the movie is actually based on a book. A children's book. I saw it in my doctor's office, called "A Day with Wilbur Robinson", and, flipping through, I think I realise why the movie had the problems it did. So far as I can remember, the book consists entirely of the two characters walking around and meeting the strange relatives. There is no conflict. No bowler hat man. No twist about yellow haired kid being the dad, I don't think he was even in an orphanage. It was obviously entirely meant to just entertain small children with the family's antics. So, even though the movie added a lot of good stuff, they must have felt compelled to keep all of the childish key jangling. I believe that is why parts of the movie clash, and why we have the ridiculously fast paced introduction of characters. They shouldn't have tried to stick to the original story so much in those areas if they were going to try to make it more mature.

  • @pixel5708

    I'm glad they didn't stick to the book. The message is so heart warming especially considering the problems Disney were facing when this came out. Goob was a blast the twist was certainly a good twist. And I like the humor.

    The funniest part of this movie was when (I can't remember it word for word though) the villain was having flashbacks of his childhood and putting on a sob story, one of the flashbacks showed him walking in the halls of his school and all the kids were calling out to him trying to have a conversation with him, and then he says in a very gloomy voice "they all hated me" or something like that. I remember laughing a lot at that. I think most animated films are entertaining at default but I really liked how quirky it was and the way the villain wasn't really villain-y at all. It's not great but it's good in my opinion.

    The main villain feels like the love child of Dr. Doofenschmirtz and Waluigi, to me, and I kinda like it. He's a mess-up and he's a pretty pathetic villain, but he's a pretty funny character in the movie. Overall, though, I still enjoy Meet the Robinsons. It's definitely a flawed movie, and I won't call it perfect, but it has a really great message, I enjoy the characters, I even like the comedy, and it just has heart into it. I feel as if this HEAVILY tops Chicken Little, which, while I still enjoy it, has far more problems than Meet the Robinsons, mainly with almost all the characters being assholes. This movie isn't Big Hero Six when it comes to making me feel emotion, but I can say that it does make me feel something. I just love the futuristic design and I just wish the characters were more established. I can still note the movies flaws, but the message, heart, and characters more than make up for it. It's still good, at least to me, but I can see why it's a flawed, or even somewhat of a bad movie.

  • @skeltheshapeshifter2697

    @skeltheshapeshifter2697

    Well, Elsa was a bad guy at first, and they were developing a song for her to sing, it *_was_* Let It Go. Perhaps not all the lyrics were the same, but it was Let It Go nonetheless. Once they had her sing it on the other hand, they realized that she shouldn't be the bad guy, and the song was too "Finally I'm free to be myself" and not "Hahaha, I'm a bad guy and I'm going to do what I want". So perhaps then Lasseter suggested it be changed, but, the song came before her change to good guy.

  • @SpongicX

    @SpongicX

    8 жыл бұрын

    Skel the shapeshifter That's not what I recall hearing. I remember hearing that John Lassetor questioned why Elsa was the bad guy, he felt it sounded unfair for her to be a villain, just because people were scared of her. It reminded him of his son. John's son was diabetic, and grew up depressed, and always questioned why he had to be born different. Because of that, Disney thought about it real hard, and the song writers came up with a sad melody that soon turned into an uplifting tune, and then the melody for Let It Go was born. The song's creation inspired them to rewrite Elsa into a heroine, instead of the villain.

    I really love this film! It's one of my favourites. While the movie is aimed at kids I think the film is specifically aimed at children who are adopted or children who have grown up with only one parent. I fall into the latter category having been raised by my mother and never knowing my father and so I relate to Lewis really well, the ending makes me cry. It's basically about a boy who just wants to know where he comes from, who he is and why his mother gave him up. All kids in these categories have asked these questions or something similar at one point. Which is why I think it's hard for some people who aren't in these categories to relate to it. Director Stephen Anderson (his first time being a director) is adopted and drew on his own experiences of growing up with that knowledge when developing the character of Lewis. This is what he had to say about it: "When I read it (the script), I was really stroked by the incredible coincidence that the script was about an orphan boy who’s trying to get adopted and who’s asking questions about his past and his birth mother. Where do I come from? Who is my birth mother? Why did she give me up? Those kinds of questions. I was adopted as an infant, so, while our situations were different since I wasn’t raised in an orphanage like Lewis, I knew exactly what was going on in that boy’s head. I understood his questioning of the past and about where you come from. I understood those questions and immediately felt that I knew how to tell this story. I understood this boy, I knew his thoughts and feelings. I could do that film. So, I immediately said: “yes, I wanna do this.” One way or the other, I couldn’t put my mind out of this script. This was mine. It immediately sparked passionately." Here's the full interview: animatedviews.com/2008/steve-anderson-meets-the-robinsons/

    I loved this movie, the designs were fun, the characters were interesting, and I loved the overall message (though it is admittedly a little cliché). I just love William Joyce books (anyone else watch George Shrinks as a kid?) and the art is incredible, it adds a lot to the personality. A better William Joyce film is Rise of the Guardians, which, in a way, is quite similar to Meet the Robinsons, with a few of the same themes. Of course that movie had the benefits of a bigger budget, and better animation technology. Overall, I like them both.

    The only time I've ever seen this film was around when it came out, and I was like 12 years old. I remember really liking it, and thinking back on it and seeing these clips, I think the reason why you (and others) have a soft spot is because while there's not enough focus on the side characters, there's so many and they're all having so much fun doing their own thing. It's kind of like how we want real life to be, knowing lots of people and each of them is free to do whatever. It's a very uplifting atmosphere, and I do recall getting a little emotional over the villain's story.

This crates a contras between the normal present and the crazy future. It kind of borrowed from the future of BTTF where they just went with what ever they thought would be funny, because they knew they would get it wrong anyways. In this case they get away with the fact that they are not in our reality.

And the weirdness just adds on, its supposed to be a story about Louis(the main character) traveling through time and seeing his future,the weirdness indicates that the world has changed because of him, in a good way. The movie is saying small ideas can also change the world, and to never give up on the things you love to do.

    I thought this was a pretty decent movie. I kind of figured that the reason that the future kid was hiding the blonde kid's hair from the family was because it was his future family. The twist with the villain being the roommate of the blonde kid from the orphanage came out of nowhere and made sense. I'm just glad that the blonde kid got the family he always wanted and it was pretty cool that he didn't see what his real mother looked like. I'm not sure why she gave him up but I'm sure it was a pretty good reason like so many people give their children up, they can't support them or they think they'll have a better life with someone who can take care of them.

    What's so Freudian about Lewis being the dad? It's not like he made any romantic relationships while in the future, just familial love. Not a whole lot of psychology involved.

    I think it's weird to think that, at one point in his life, Lewis really wanted to be adopted by his own future wife. So now, whenever Lewis first thinks of how he met his future wife, he'll be thinking of her as the nurturing mother that he once wanted as a parent... It's also kind've like... self-fulfilling prophecy? Like, one could infer that Lewis *only* stayed with his wife because he knew what the future would turn out to be... It's uh, it's just awkward to think about. Not bad-weird, but not good-weird either.

    This movie is bittersweet for me. I remember liking it and being so excited when the DVD came out because I was going to invite my "friends" over and have my first party ever that I was going to host instead of being invited to. And then I found out that my "friends" were only my "friends" during school hours and the only reason I ever got invited to their parties was because their Mothers made them. It was a harsh blow. Add to that the fact that it was near the end of my senior year in High School which left me absolutely no time to find friends that actually wanted to be friends and that was pretty much the shittiest graduation imaginable.

    I watched this movie when i was a kid,i actually grew up liking this film,because it taught me how on "never give up","keep on trying" and "keep moving forward" on my graduation when i was in school,it was okay to mistakes,because in those mistakes,you can improvised and learn new things while studying,we all learn from our mistakes,because it helped us change our ways and learn to get better at some things we know so little about.

    Disney clearly went through some dark period of animated movies from the early - mid 2000s. It was only when they bought Pixar they started to make a comeback. Can't wait for Zootopia!

    +Kyros Vulk-Oliver I feel like Meet the Robinsons started the trend of good streaking movies again. This movie's success carried over to Bolt, which moved onto The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, and Big Hero 6. Before then, Disney had many ups and downs, but ever since Meet the Robinsons, each film's quality and box office performances have been smooth sailing.

    I adore this movie. It's got such a warm, fuzzy atmosphere. And, of course, I love the message Disney himself held when he as alive. This movie isn't "perfect" (as there really is no such thing, as "perfection" is subjective and personal), but it's so enjoyable and heartwarming. I love the entire Robinson family! They're cooky, weird, and just overall amazing. They're not afraid to be themselves and they embrace and encourage individuality. They also encourage mistakes, which is fantastic and a wonderful message to kids and even adults. I got this movie on dvd and have watched it a number of times. It's just that good. :)

    Everyone has that one film that they absolutely love- and in some cases, that film plays a key part in shaping who they are- but its either super obscure or not as well liked by the masses. Meet the Robinsons was that film for me; I credit it greatly for my developed sense of ambition, love for fast-paced jokes and dialogue, and the quote at the end has often times been my main motivation to keep moving forward. I loved it as a kid, and while I do recognize it’s faults years later, it still holds a special place in my heart.

    "Meet the Robinsons" is an okay movie. Just a time traveling story where the boys meets a taller kid from future and meeting the genius family who were really intelligent and how funny their invention goes. That's that. Just a simple sci-fi kids movie. At least the ending with the strong message is very needed and it's good to move on that depends your life can really be. Okay movie.

    Despite Meet The Robinson's flaws I still reeeally love this movie and I love the background of the future, the colors, the humor, the heart, the message, and the characters.😄 The Buller Hat Guy is really funny especially when he was trying to come up with plans on how to get Lewis and his backstory is sad and I feel bad for him. All he wanted was a friend and Doris was going to betray him JUST to ruin the future and use him for her OWN gain!!! NOT cool!!! The Buller Hat Guy is relatable with being kind of a screw up, but that meant that he was a person! I love that about villians and I knew that there's always MORE to a villian than what meets the eye of normal people or a hero which is why villians are so interesting to me and their backstories make them more human. One of my favorite things about a villian is: that a lot of them were just normal people, but bad things happened to them like family getting killed, scars, bullying, being ostracised for what they are, or who they were back then, etc., The villian is the opposite of a hero so it's sad when the villian is being ostracised by society or people because others think that the villian is a threat to society, others, or even themselves, but it's NOT their fault for that because they were probably FORCED to become a villian, they had no choice, or they didn't WANT to be. Anyway...sorry if this was long just wanted to say what was on my mind😅 Good review👍
