Meet the Legendary Dosa Man - New York Street Food Icons

Thiru Kumar, AKA the Dosa Man, has been running NY Dosas, a food cart in Greenwich Village’s Washington Square Park, since 2001. His dosas-which are made from fermented rice and lentils, and stuffed with potatoes, vegetables, and spicy sauces-have become an international phenomenon. Thiru grew up in Sri Lanka and learned to make South Indian recipes as a child. After he immigrated to the United States in the 90s, he made it his life's work to sell affordable, fresh, and vegan dosas to NYU students, professors, and other passerbys.

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! i’m from upstate but every time i visit the city i buy food from his cart because he is the kindest, most friendly man and always takes the time to talk to everyone about their days/lives and get to know his customers, etc. not to mention the food is amazing (and vegan)!!

The stupid commented this don't have any idea about the dosa , since he's waiting for the grill to get 180 - 200 degrees , they are first clients in the morning standing in the queue. While the grill heating, he's giving a short interview

I am Akkhil from India, Tamil Nadu, Chennai. I am happy to see your video mainly south Indian food Dosa in USA. Mr. Thiru Kumaran done a very good job Dosa. Small request Dosa combination not samosa,samosa is chat item and snacks. Dosa combination is Vada.Dosa Vada,idly Vada,pongal Vada,Puri Vada these are all south Indian breakfast and more breakfast are in South India, I told combination only.i am happy to see this Dosa Stall in America. Thank you.

Pondicherry is called masala dosa and in countries in South East Asia, you can get this all around the clock even at 3-4am, it'll be delivered to you piping hot, so it's nothing special really

Those dosas look sad as fuck. I'm sure you'll get much better ones in NYC. My state in India is the pioneer of dosas , in fact we invented the masala dosaa
