Awesome! What size speedrail did you use? What is the industry standard size in your opinion? Building a little speed rail kit. Ty!

The two standard sizes are 1-1/4 and 1-1/2. If you’re building out a kit, I would ask the other equipment owners in your area what they use. That way, if you need to sub-rent, your gear will be compatible. In the Bay Area, I believe there are two rental houses that are 1-1/2 and the rest are 1-1/4. Because my truck is small and my rigs tend to be on the smaller side, I went with 1-1/4. If you really need the strength for longer spans, it’s wise to have a steel pipe option as well.

​@@meetthegaffer thank you Luke! I'm in Los Angeles. What would you recommend? I'm a director/producer, not a grip, btw. These two sizes are so close that it doesn't make sense to own both in my use case. Love the channel!

I would imagine that 1-1/4 would suit you well if you are planning smaller personal rigs rather than hiring a key or rigging grips? But again, it’s often wise to check in with the people you like to work with so that your kit will have compatibility when your needs grow. Hope that helps!

Hi Luke! I love your videos, your channel is a wonderful resource for learning about the trade! 1 small item of feedback on this one, though: maybe a more directional microphone would be nice in this situation, because it's a bit hard to hear what Jeff is saying above the people in the background.

You are not wrong! Sometimes I have to grab footage without asking everyone else to keep their voices down. Not to mention, I feel fortunate to be able to shoot footage on someone else’s project... during the few moments I happen to be idle. I put a lav on Jeff, clipped sideways on a T-shirt. :)

This is not Black Arm its wrong title ! you must have mistaken the black arm for proaim arm the 2 are absolutely different, the proaim is lot more simpler in term of design , whereas the black arm has more functions such as four sprung , the dumpner tension etc are all different , found it misleading title , though great video and great rig set up .

You are right! I was using it generically, like Kleenex for tissue. I should have titled it “Vertical Vibration Isolator”. The one in the video is the VVI by Griptech, not the Black Arm by Flocine. My apologies!

I think you are wrong, it is not a proaim arm, it is a griptech arm
