well for people like me who live in greece or any other country with very high taxes for a 2.000cc car the fiesta ST is the only logical option. but this is a huge upgrade since the old polo generation

I have a 2019 Polo Gti, bought quickly as a second car, but it is now one of my favorite cars day to day after more powerful Golf R and Renault Meganas RS 270- The Polo is performance car in real world, a family car, and every day driver, with a 2 lt engine on the Motorway /Péage a GT car - so don’t listen to the reviews- it is a brilliant car

I've not heard any reviewer say the Polo GTI is not a good car. It's not as great as the Fiesta ST, as far as driving dynamics go. But as a daily it's better, especially with the DSG transmission

Thanks man! Great video! I've had my Polo GTI for some months now and I really love it. To be honest it was a bit of a step down, as I had a Golf GTI before that. Still, although Fords are really good cars and fun to drive, I just don't like 'em. Don't like the looks and I don't like the brand itself, so I'd never buy a Fiesta ST. I really like the looks of the Polo GTI though, especially from the front, from the back it lacks a bit of excitement. I totally agree on the interior, I think it's a LOT nicer than the Fiesta design-wise, anyhow the quality of the materials on the doors is extremely cheap - that is what annoys me the most about this car, it's a constant reminder that you have a cheaper car than a Golf. Apart from that - great fun and value for money. :-)

It will be better made, have a much higher quality interior, and poses a higher specification. As for outright handling, its anyones guess, whether the Polo Gti rivals the Fiesta ST. One thing is sure, the Polo has the nicer interior.

Nicer interior, yes, much higher quality, definitely not. Unfortunately the Polo has the same kind of plastics you can find in the Fiesta, no real difference. That being said, the tech inside the VW is far superior.

Why doesn’t VW offer the Polo GTI with a manual gearbox in the UK?

Yes, with a 3 cylinder. Definitely not a toy. The Polo is a great all-rounder but the fiesta is a better drivers car.

A pattern emerges with the reviews of the Polo GTI. Nearly all bashes the Polo for being boring over the Fiesta ST, which it is to a degree. But that alone is probably not a deal breaker for a whole lot of people. The ST has a much worse looking interior, its probably not that fun being a passenger, its infotainment is much worse and it much too stiff to drive on a daily basis. If you only care about no compromises mini hothatch - then the Fiesta is a good choice, but i feel like the general majority that would want a daily commute car with sporty features would want a car that is equally pleasing to drive to work, as it is on a roadtrip to the alpes.

I didn't say it's boring to drive compared to the Fiesta. I just said the the ST is just a bit better in all areas, driving wise. Also, I think people that say the latest Fiesta ST is too stiff for daily use haven't driven one yet. On 18" wheels the ST was just as comfortable as the GTI riding on 17". However, I can agree with what you said about the interior and infotainment system. Ford really needs to work on those things.

When I say "Boring" i mean that generally speaking the Polo GTI is considered "too safe" in that it doesn't really let you throw it around like you want to, which I defintely agree on. That being said, a lot of that is what people want from a daily driver. A lot of independant reviewers said that the Fiesta ST felt stiffer, but as you say most of them also did the Polo in 18" wheels. If you drive for fun, definitely the Fiesta is the way to go. I personally went with a Polo GTI (picking it up next week, whoo hoo!) because the interior of the Ford was just... urg.

Do you know the date of the first registration ? Does the Polo GTI in your video have the particle filter or is it the old engine without the particle filter ( 2017-2018)?

You didn’t expect a facelift to look completely different surely. Also MK5 is heaps better.

I have this new polo. Had it for a month now. 3 have to "options" are (cause they are options and not standard) is the sports+ suspension, the 18" wheels (same as the ones on the current golf Gti mk7.5) and the full leather seat pack (which makes a hell of a difference to the interior) and the active info virtual clock display. This car is quick and from traffic light to traffic light it will sit neck and neck with a mk7 Gti.......it also has better launch control than the golf for some reason lol. It will not let the mk7 Gti golf run away from it either only on the long roads out of town the mk7 Gti will only start pulling away from it at around 225kph. Heres a link to another KZread vid that shows the polo Gti vs a golf mk7 Gti and you will see that this polo does not let the mk7 run away from it. (Ik this cause I have tried this on a track day with a friend with a mk7 Gti (also DSG ) and it yielded the same results). Oh and if anyone says "oh well a manual golf Gti would do better"....well lol it's actually a lot worse than the DSG. That's not the point. Everyone knows automatics are much faster than manuals now. The reason why people love manuals is for the engagement it offers in the driving experience.

Fair point, though I'm not trying to debate the fact about manual driving engagement vs DSG, my point is that the value and performance of this polo Gti vs the golf Gti is so slim (until the mk8 version of the golf Gti comes out) the only downside as you pointed out is the plastic on the door interior, I do hate that......I think the could have done better on that point. Other than that it's possibly the best polo version of a Gti to date

Oh absolutely. Other than having access to some fancier options and a bit bigger car I don't see why you would want a regular Golf GTI instead of the Polo.

Iv experienced a GTI Polo racing me, and it was on pair with my GTI Clubsport! So yes i can confirm that! But however idont find it strange! It have the same engine as the GTI/R the EA 888. It has probably the same Torque? It has abit fewer horse powers. BUT it also must be ALOT lighter than a GTI.. So my guess is in lower revs were torque is important it follows up well, but in higher revs it would be very interesting to see what happens competing a GTI Clubsport like mine! My guess is the Polo GTI gains alot by having a lower weight.

Owned my ST for 3 months now. The ride is very good for longer journeys, yes its firm but perfectly balanced for sport/daily uses. And the exhaust sound is so sporty and loud, loving it. I went with 5-doors for practicality. My car: i.postimg.cc/2SH2MptL/IMG-20190119-133751.jpg

the st isn't cheaper in my country england plus the polo is the better looking car and it has a better touchscreen and infotainment system, the one in the st looks weird.

Weird :) But it's the same thing with the M2 Competition. It's more or less the same price as my M2 in the UK, but here in Sweden is 7% more expensive. Still, even if it's more expensive, I'd still go for the Fiesta ST.

Took a test drive in a new one of these last week back to back with a 2015 Golf GTi...1 guess which one i bought!

I’m guessing that exhaust sound is coming through the speaker system

at 5:10 it is actually exhaust sound. it's front a microphone fitted outside of the car

Steering wheels are expensive to design and manufacture because of the airbags and other controls. You will notice that most companies have the same wheel across most lines. Audi uses the same round airbag structure as VW in the smaller cars, for this reason.

Yes its a 2 liter but the engine is builded up differently making this 2 liter less tunneable compared to the golf gti. Reason? Well give a better balance between fun and quick and better fuel consumption making it a great daily driver. So dont expect to get 500hp out of it.

The Fiesta ST is only available as a manual and I don't like that.
