A special edition of ‘It’s Bibi’ broadcast for Saint Patrick’s Day featured guests Mary Trump and Frank Patterson.
Bibi Baskin travelled to the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel in Atlantic City where she met with Mary Trump, mother of Donald Trump.
During our stay here we were honoured to have the pleasure of meeting Donald Trump’s mother.
The interview took place in a luxury suite on the 51st floor of the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel, where Mrs Trump had just had lunch with Irish singer Frank Patterson who also spoke to Bibi.
Mary Trump had long been a fan of Frank Patterson.
We have all his tapes, all his cassettes.
She recalls meeting Frank for the first time at Booth Memorial Hospital in New York, where he was performing and Mary was a patient in recovery after being mugged. She plans to go to Frank’s concert later that day, and again at Carnegie Hall the following week.
Mary Trump talks about her Scottish origins, hailing from Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. Mary, formerly MacLeod moved to New York and married Fred Trump.
Frank Patterson, who also lives in New York, says that Mary’s love for Irish music stems from her Scottish heritage. Since their first meeting Mary and Frank have remained friends and have worked on various charity events together.

She’s didn’t speak English until she was taught it in secondary school, only Scottish Gaelic. So the similarity to an Irish accent makes sense.

In the 1910s and 1920s when she was growing up, Gaelic was the main community language in the island of Lewis and was spoken by all the locals, used in everyday life and in the church. Her whole family was Gaelic-speaking. She spoke Gaelic daily until she was very nearly 18. As someone who grew up bilingual myself (albeit not with Gaelic), I can say that you do not forget a language if it is used in your home by all the family for the first 18 years of your life. Even now, the Outer Hebrides is the region in Scotland where the percentage of Gaelic speakers is highest, with 43% percent recorded for Greater Stornoway at the last census in 2011 (the 2022 census results haven't been published yet). Learning English made Mary bilingual, but it didn't cause her to lose her first language. For reference, look at any old footage from the 80s or 90s of President Trump and you'll see a man with impeccable manners. But how then should you talk when addressing Isis, even indirectly? I wouldn't be a manager myself but I've seen it done badly many times, it takes real skill to mange people well and 'nice' is just another tool in the toolbox.
