Great video but there's a mistake that you mentioned Buddhism was from India through "China and Japan" to Korea. BUT KOREA ADOPTED BUDDHISM AS NATIONAL RELIGION IN 4TH CENTURY AND JAPAN ADOPTED BUDDHISM IN MID 6TH CENTURY.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_in_Japan Here's the fact! Following is the first sentence of "Buddhism in Japan" in Wikipedia; "Buddhism has been practiced in Japan since its official introduction in 552 AD according to the Nihon Shoki from Baekje, Korea by Buddhist monks."

The Lotus is the Symbol for Buddhism because it shows the Simultaneity of Cause & Effect. Because it is the only plant that flowers and seeds at the same time. The muddy water in which it grows is the chaos from which our enlightenment springs. Also. My form of Buddhism, SGI Nichiren Buddhism, may well be one of, if not the the largest, in Korea. Even though it is from Japan ( and you know how bad their history is) yet has over 2 Million members.

It's too late to correct the error (what was said ) in the video. The buddhism went to Japan from Korea. India -> China -> Korea -> Japan. Japanese culture is the byproduct of China, Korea and the rest of Southeast Asian cultures.

If you think like "Christianity came to France through Rome and England.", it is ridiculous. It't just the same thing. Buddhism is started in India and spread to China, China to Korea and Korea to Japan.

Great video, as usual! HOWEVER, big mistake in saying Buddhism arrived to Korea through China AND Japan. Through China, yes, but Japan 'got' Buddhism after Korea... There is a general problem of attributing many (not all, to be clear!) Korean elements to Japan as originator, when in fact it was often the other way round...

So true. For example, Cherry blossoms originated in Jeju Island, Korea. But Japan took them and cultivated them on their mainland. They even called it "Sakura" and made it as one of the national symbols. Most of the people over the world do not know the origin of cherry blossom. I'm furious and sad about it. The government of South Korea should act for it.

a niu / Half right and half wrong. Because ancient korea(until 1200 ad.) had relationship with india and serveral southern east asian conturies directly. But china became bigger and strong and banned their border so korean couldn't get to india or any other countries(except japan) anymore. So... It's so wrong if you say china is the only country which influenced korean culture. ignorance.

It is known that when cremate a "GREAT" monk's dead body, it leaves some kinda stones(called "사리; SARI") other than ashes. The numbers of the stones are relative to the greatness of dead monk. So the stone monuments, which you said containing ashes of dead monks, are actually for keeping the stones of dead monks. Some buddhist temples have Buddha's stone and stone monuments for keeping it, though I don't know whether Bong Eun Sa has those.

Buddhism came from Saka ethnicity of Gaya and then from the empress Heo, from Ayordiya(Tamil) India. Her brother Jangyou built first temple and the first king(Suro Kim)’s sons became monks. People forget about this because Korea later became Koguryeo and It also influenced by Gokuryeo Korea afterwards. From their viewpoint, it is from China, Seon(Zen) buddhism. But it is originally from India, Nepal directly by same people of Buddha. And then it was passed to Japan (Asuka, Nara, Kyoto) from Baekje, Korea.

Of all religions (I know so far) buddhism appeals most to me although I am not religious at all, I am a scientist by heart. But what I like in religions: they give you routine by their rituals, may it be the praying before you go to bed or the meditating or a special tea ceremony. It is so calming for the mind 😊 And I like that huge contrast between the really old temple and all modern, hectic Seoul around it 😊 Really nice video!

Super interesting video! I find it really cool in the eastern Asian countries, you can find such peaceful places in these big bustling cities. I feel that if you've been having a stressful day in the city, you could quite easily have a nice walk around in one of these traditional temples and just de-stress. Also, have you ever worried about your videos not having much a point, or not being helpful to people at the beginning and if so do you have any advice about being more confident in you videos/making the potential "point" of these videos more apparent? (please don't take this question as offensive in any way, you're videos are honestly great and have a great educational value, I'm asking for myself)

Hi TravelingEevee, I asked myself the same question for our own channel. Now we make weekly travel vlogs and looking for a purpose in the videos. We decided to ask our subscribers and we sat down and made clear Why we launched this channel and what is our goal in the end. Since we have described this in more detail, it becomes more and more clear that we need to spread our 'Follow Your Dream' message more clearly and to the point and we will make another type of content to realize this goal. O yeah, the goal, in the end, is to make a documentary on the topic of 'Dreamchasers' ;-)

Buddhism was Not from (India through China and) Japan TO Korea, It's much earlier that Korea adopted Buddhism than Japan. Thanks for your Video but honestly I feel very offensive for your wrong information. I think you can at least revise your voice comments or can put the subtitles to CORRECT YOUR WRONG INFORMATION.

I've been to that temple! In the Gangnam district. By the way, the Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths, not three. Oh, and though "thank you" is written 감사합니다 "kamsa hapnida", it's pronounced (and should be romanized as) "kamsa hamnida".

Actually dragon has nothing to do with Buddhism, but with Taoism and ancient Animism, when Buddhism came to Korea, China, Japan, it got mixed with local religions. So you can see, in China, a mixture of Buddhism and Taoism, as well as in Korea, Buddhism interbred with Taoism and local fairy tales(??). In one of those fairy tales, only lucky snakes who lived long and did good deeds(like following Buddhism) can become dragons, and they get superpowers to bring rain and thunders. So that's why they are worshiped in Asian countries with agricultural culture, where subsequent rain is sooo important. There's a funny story of a snake who almost become dragon in a Buddhist fable: Once upon a time, there was a snake who worked hard to not to kill humans or animals to become a dragon, however, Buddha didn't make him a dragon cuz his kindness was not genuine but derived from self-worth.

Hey Alex and Marko, I think it would be really interesting to see you visiting Georgia (the country, not the state). I plan on visiting it myself in 2018, where I will trek in the caucasus mountains and visit the capitol Tbilisi :) Anyways, I hope you will consider it! BTW youtuber Geography Now has made an amazing video on the country :)
