Medieval Shackles Handcuffs Restoration. Rusty Lock Restoration

Ойын-сауық

Medieval rusty shackles handcuffs restoration. These old rusty shackles were found in the forest with a key next to them. These are approximately shackles of the 12th-14th century. These shackles could be used as handcuffs or as leg shackles. I decided to restore these shackles. I restored the old rusty lock and opened the handcuffs. I preserved the old iron and removed the rust. I hope you liked my restoration.

Now that was very satisfying, I love old locks and unique locking mechanisms. Seen older "Slave" handcuffs with a screw-in locking mechanism with a square key that you could turn. The locking mechanism on the restored handcuffs reminds me more of the older Chinese-type locks that were on trunks, and small boxes. Very informative and satisfying, thank you!

*_You know his restoration videos look legit with how the rusted metal just crumbles away the moment he removes a screw or fixture. I love seeing his work_*

Гарна робота! Замок подібний датується 12 - першою половиною 13 століття. А отому добродію, який хотів очистити замок болгаркою треба руки поодривати за таке.

The only thing I would suggest is pouring boiling water over the metal after any soaking solution to help neutralize the surface and limit flash rusting. Very cool object to restore!

Gracias.

How did you determine the date the shackles were made? I think that they are hundreds of years younger than you believe. 12th-14th centuries would be 1100-1399... You do understand how centuries are reckoned, right? The 20th century was 1900-1999... We are now in the 21st century. I think that the shackles could possibly be 17th-19th century, no earlier. (1600-1899)

This is a typical tubular lock of the 12th-14th centuries. In the 17th century, another type of locks was with a rotary or screw mechanism. All information about these padlocks is available on Google

I agree regarding the age, but I feel these are likely a more modern replication of medieval shackles. Unless this person seriously thinks that upon finding thousand year old artifacts in the forest.... Their first reaction is to turn on a camera, dump modern rust remover on them while browsing Google and not contacting any actual authority on such artifacts to accurately date and identify them. They should have been preserved by a professional, not someone playing up drama for KZread clicks.

that lock was for slaves. They had a squatting position because they were tied to the leg and hands, the chain being short. I don't think that in the medieval era they had such locks, I think they were different, they didn't have such a constructive idea, they were simpler.

Your right about time area 1600-1890's. Medieval shackles where riveted on or used a lock was not till later on did they intergraded lock and key.

For the love of christ, why would you think he's from the States? I mean, English is clearly his second language, 2 seconds of scrolling the comment section reveals a lot of comments written in Ukrainian, and most of his other videos are based around WW1 or other medieval findings. How much WW1 combat took place in the States? Critical thinking, it's a good thing...
