Medieval Ennerdale
Did you know there are very visible medieval ruins in the hills of West Cumbria? Join me for a visit to the Lake District's quietest lake, Ennerdale. I'm on the hunt for the remains of a medieval settlement. See how quiet and peaceful this beautiful area is, even in the middle of summer as I look for the preserved ruins of a settlement inhabited in the 1400's.

Thanks for talking us through this walk it looks stunning I might not make it to the platform but I'll definitely be walking along the bottom and having a picnic 🥰 following your walks 😊
My favourite location in the Lake District, I first visited on my first ot two Coast to Coast Hikes. It is so peacefull despite having to follow the southern route. The Northern shore path seems much longer despite it being nearly level. Happy Memories revived when ever I have visited from Essex.
you never fail to impress Paul - really enjoyed this - beautiful camera work and picture quality - just like being there!

Welcome, thanks for subscribing. 😀 It’s nice to have you on board. 👍🏻
Sorry to say that we have never visited Ennerdale. Looks like we must do now. Thanks Paul. Are there height barriers at the car parks? Pslossibly good that the hotel got knocked down, it may have kept the lake from being over run with tourists. You know how much we like our history so we loved this. Wild walking, love it

Thank you. 👍🏻 No height barrier at the car park so you’d be able to get the van in if you’re ever back up this way. 😎

Sorry I have to correct you here, believe you me the Anglers was not a threat of any possibility of Ennerdale becoming 'over-run', provided a few much needed jobs too for local folk, the small farms dotted around certainly would need this. In some senses one could say its the Bowness Knott car park is the problem, I remember quieter days with far fewer people hacking up the track. Was better then as the access road to Bowness is very narrow, to be honest the less traffic the better.
Great footage I know the area rather well....there are more of these remains further up the valley on the opposite side of the Liza.

Hi Paul, You dont mention it in your video. But are you aware at all of the Lifting Stones that are recorded on the old maps? Im researching them currently and have been out hunting for them once but to no avail. I cam across your video on the old Bloomery and thought id reach out. Im hoping to be able to recover them but concerned that either the recent logging or construction of the YHA track may have buried them.
