Medicare Explained 2023 (Secrets of Who and Why)

Medicare Explained (Secrets of who and why )
Medicare explained, Medicare made easy, Medicare made clear, no matter how we word it in the title of all these videos that you're watching, understanding Medicare is not always easy. I know. I have helped over 10,000 people with their Medicare in just the past five years. In this video, I will use that experience to help you.

In this video, I am going to share with you the secrets of Who and Why. For each of these four choices, I will share the who (the demographics) and why people make that specific choice and what, if any the typical likes and regrets years later.
When you enroll in Medicare Part B you must make one of three choices.
Either you keep Original Medicare Part A and Part B and do nothing else, except get Prescription drug coverage through Part D.
Second, you trade in your Medicare Parts A and B for a Medicare Advantage Plan, also called Medicare Part C, many doctors refer to them as Medicare replacement plans. You can do this as an individual, or if you are continuing to work past 65, some large employers offer a group Medicare Advantage plan. I will talk more on that in a moment.
Or third, you build on your Medicare Parts A & B by adding a Medicare supplement.
Those are your three choices, and which choice you make can set the course for your healthcare for the rest of your life.

Prior to retiring in October 2019 I watched several of your seminars and as a result of information you provided I chose original Medicare part G supplemented and Part D. In December of that year I was diagnosed a blood cancer. Without the coverage that part G supplies I would have been financially wrecked. Companies offering Advantage plans should be barred from using the terms “Medicare” and “Part C” in identifying their products. These terms can be very misleading to a new consumer and carry tragic results if not fully understood. Thank You for the valuable information you provide

@@drantonatos You will need part D. Without a good part D plan I would be responsible for over $100K per year. (Yes.. $100K ). With a part D drug plan I run about $10K out of pocket. Check the formulary. Look for foundations that offer grants to patients and check the drug manufacturer for discount programs. DO NOT go with an Advantage plan. Stick with original Medicare and a Supplement plan. Good Luck

Something that's really needed is more data about medicare advantage and supplemental plans. 1. Agents 1.a. How are they paid? 1.b. How much are they paid? 1.c. Who pays them? 2. Doctors, Hospitals and other providers 2.a. How are they paid? 2.b. How much are they paid? 2.c. Who pays them? 3. Supplement Plans 3.a. How are they paid? 3.b. How much are they paid? 3.c. Who pays them? 3.d. How are rate increases determined? 3.e. What regulates rate increases? 4. Advantage Plans 4.a. How are they paid? 4.b. How much are they paid? 4.c. Who pays them? 4.d. What are they negotiating when they create networks? Agreement to abide to pre-authorization? Lower fees? 4.e. How much control do they actually have i.e. could they not authorize a life saving procedure? If not, what regulates them. 4.f. How often do pre-authorization denials actually occur? Are there any regulations? This would be a good start to lifting the veil. All the complications seem to be present to give insurance providers the means to charge more.

Great information! My husband and I just turned 60. And like many people, assumed Medicare was “Free”! Boy was I surprised to find out what it actually covers. $1600 deductible before it even starts to pay for in patient care. And no AOOP maximum!!! Very discouraging information. I have friends and family who worked in the Public Sector and they have these incredible health insurance plans the Private Sector would die for 🤦🏻‍♀️ Who knew Medical Insurance would sky rocket like it did in the past 15 years. I am confused regarding Medicare Part B. I read that you will be penalized if you sign up for Part B after you turn 65. I believe I read there is a 10% increase paid for every year past turning 65. Fortunately, I have a good 4 years to prepare for the best insurance plan for our needs. Thanks again for sharing!

When you turn 65 you will need to either enroll in Medicare or have creditable group coverage through your or your spouses employment. Creditable coverage is health insurance with employers who have at least 20 employees. That coverage is seldom better than or lower cost than Medicare and a supplement. Awesome content. One important suggestion. I've looked a quite a few group Medicare Advantage plan benefit summaries. A large number of these plans include no or low prescription deductible and coverage through the gap. People leave these plans thinking that the individual "street" plans are the same. This can result in several thousand dollars more out of pocket. Also, the amount you pay for Part D drugs does not count towards your Maximum Out of Pocket.

  • @MedigapSeminars

    @MedigapSeminars

    Жыл бұрын

You are correct about the max out of pocket. Part D is separate and has no maximum at this time. But the Part D experience varies greatly depending on the plan and geographic region. A Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan (MAPD) is simply a Medicare Advantage Plan a with a bundled but separate Part D. I have the ability to pull up Stand Alone Part D plans and compare them to drug plans bundled with Part D - everywhere in the US. I find on average they are the same. There are specific situations that can impact the prices one way or another, but on average the same. They are required to be, by law.

For some people budget has to be the primary consideration because they can’t come up with the monthly payment. If they do have medical expenses they can often pay them off slowly with payment plans. I know quite a few people in this category. I also know a number of people who didn’t know about supplement plans before signing up for a MA plan. I know one person who is planning on signing up for employee retirement insurance because the the prescription drug plan is much much better.

Three questions: (1) If original Medicare is not for profit then why doesn't the government just make A and B free with 100% coverage at least for low income seniors? (2) Or why doesn't the government make part A and B free with the option of buying a supplement plan? (3) What could a medical provider do if a low income senior just doesn't pay their out of pocket for medical services anyway? I think I can answer the last one. Not much. Creditors can't touch retirement income so seniors are pretty much judgement proof. Also, maybe you could make a video on the importance of seeking a medical provider who not only accepts Medicare but also Medicare assignment. Its my understanding that if a provider only accepts Medicare but not Medicare assignment, they can charge their normal pricing and if you don't have a gap plan, your 20% of that higher pricing will be significantly higher than would be with a doctor who accepts assignment.

You got some good points there I'm turning 65 July and this whole thing is just got me pulling my hair out, but to answer your question the out-of-pocket cost are all designed to keep you from going to the doctor, that's all it is, in another word if you got a good income you can afford a way around it, low income seniors are being trampled under foot.

Hi Roger. Think of it this way; supplement Plan G and Plan N do not have a deductible. They simply do not insure you against the Medicare Part B deductible. So with those supplements ( and all but the Medigap Plan F and Plan C) you will be obligated to pay the Part B deductible. I hope that helps. :-) If so, please like this comment. I think that you have 12 months to decide to go back to your supplement plan. You need to hurry and reapply back to your supplemental plan if it’s been under 12 months. That’s what I read, you should verify this by calling your supplemental plan that you had before. Or call a trusted broker.
