I can hear when I take blood pressures, but cannot hear the apical pulse hardly at all with this stethoscope. Even my husband who doesn't wear HA's can't hear it either. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've tried all the frequencies.

Hi Melissa, a couple of suggestions I can offer for auscultating the apical pulse...assuming you are increasing the volume up louder than the BP while trying to listen to heart sounds at the fifth intercostal space at the left midclavicular line (I always like to remind myself of the correct placement ;)). 1). I have found that the amount of pressure can distort or clarify the sound. Try different amounts of pressure to see if that makes a difference. 2). Try leaning forward to bring the heart closer to the chest wall which makes a big difference for me. I hope that helps, please keep us posted!
