Also, since theres a new DLC coming this January. I would recommend getting it and as well downloading 2 specific mods, the Coyotes mission pack (quadruples the amount of random mission types in the game) And the Von biomes mod (triples the amount of different map types) Other mods of note would be -"Yet another mechlab and weapon" : expands the mechanics of the game, adding thermal vision, deeper mech customization, allowing you to change the engines of mechs thus allowing mechs to be slower but have more tonnage for weapons or faster. Also adds advanced salvage mechanics, rather than salvage being a dice roll, destroyed mechs can be salvaged in pieces and if you have enough pieces, you can build q new mech in the mechlab. The mod also adds tons of new weapons and equipment from the lore (i know this can be abit overwhelming so i understand if you don't wanna dive into this mod, but it does make the game more lore accurate and more similar to older games in the franchise) -330 pilot overhaul: expands the AI pilot by giving them a more indepth progression system. Giving them each unique randomized quirks and traits as well as introduction "mech familiarity" for pilots making them prefer certain mechs over others. And as well massively improving their AI. Expands their thumbnails and voice lines as well Combine these mods with the new dlcs and i assure you, it will feel like the game is brand new

I was not aware of the DLC and I haven't really looked at mods but it's good to know there are some fantastic ones out there. I'm glad to see they are going to continue to support Mechwarrior 5. I think there is still a lot more potential to be drawn from this game even though I really wish my squad would stop wasting all of their ammo on a particularly threatening rock formation randomly.

Interesting you mentioned Macross. Many mech designs came straight from Macross and ended up in a decades long legal battle with Harmony Gold who adapted Macross into Robotech for the North American market. Mechs like the Warhammer, Archer, Rifleman, Marauder, and Phoenix Hawk. The Long bow is one that's coming soon. The Wasp is a light mech not in the game but is basically the Veritech fighter in mech mode. They even have land air mechs that are basically the gerwalk mode of the Veritech fighter.

The reason why you enjoyed Mechassault is simply because Mechassault technically is Mechwarrior. Mechwarrior is from the Battletech Universe. Mechassault is from the Battletech Universe. I mean i am sure you figured that out by now. Mechassault pretty much was Microsoft not only wanting a Xbox Live game, but also their first steps with the IP they aquired back then. But since Mechwarrior 4 pretty much was the last one and saw not much popularity anymore, Microsoft probably tried to revive it in a different way. Sadly the "Hype" for Battletech died pretty much in the mid 90s. I mean i was merely a toddler during that time where Battletech ruled the arcades even. Whole pods were made to duke it out in against each other or the AI. I'd wish Battletech would get the recognition it deserves again, but once i start telling you what Battletech really is, you would start running away. Technically Battletech was a strategy game. The game Battletech itself is probably the most accurate depiction you can get if you want the feel of what it was as a boardgame back then. Obviously though it is a lot more fun to fight with your mech in realtime. I was 7 years old as i was introduced to the Battletech universe first. As a child i obviously were like: "COOL FIGHTING ROBOTS!" To be fair. Mechwarrior 5 is only being kept alive because the devs do not give up on it yet and the community creating so many good mods these days.

Thank you for helping set the story straight. I've been playing Battletech and MechWarrior since the 80s. The Tabletop is a wargame with tactical and strategy elements and was one of FASAs flagship IPs along with Shadowrun. The video game adaptations have helped keep the IP alive in some degree and of course there are still some groups playing the tabletop as there have been computer programs to not only help you keep track of your Company and Lances but every single aspect the videos games cover is from the tabletop. All of that was done by hand before it was digitized and adapted to video games. There aren't really any good guys and the universe is just as dark or darker than WH40K. In closing, I am really glad that some of the best Tabletop games from the 80s are now working with strong representations of their IP. In particular, MW5, Battletech (HBS), and even Cyberpunk 2077 (CDPR) and Cyberpunk Red (RTG) have proven that while many of these IPs are nearly 40 real world years old... They are just as fresh and have loving and supportive communities to this very day. Væ Victis, Commanders! O7

Anytime. Battletech.. as much as i wish i could have been alive and at the right place when it was "cool" i just can't turn myself older. Same as obviously i can't just not be a german anymore. As said. First contact was with 7. And ever since then it stuck with me and i only got deeper and deeper and deeper into it. I did play the Tabletop but only simulated. Finding active Tabletop players for that in germany, better said bavaria.. yeah you have an easier time finding a unicorn often. But that never stopped me from enjoying any game i could that is related to Battletech. I loved the Mechwarrior series. I played both Mechassault games. I did dabble into Mechcommander. And i obviously inhaled Battletech itself from HBS. Any day there isn't more Battletech related games is a bad day in my book. I know PGI is.. questionable often with their decisions, but i rather take that than absolutely nothing anymore.@@LordofSyn

Haven't played in a hot minute. It's a pretty time intensive game which is why I don't play a lot of survival games either because it's time I probably should be spending writing or editing. Not sure if I'm going to get back around to Mechwarrior until Clans comes out whenever that is.

I'm looking forward to it. The additional 12 mission campaign and the Crusader Battlemech and I think there are now bounty hunter missions being added but none of that compares to the thing I'm looking forward to most.... UI and AI UPDATES!!! I am so sick of my AI dumping all of their ammo into a sinister looking rock formation while I'm engaging the enemy and running into missions where enemies spawn under the map where they can't be killed. There are numerous bug fixes listed in the free update and hopefully they have managed to fix the issues holding MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries back from being truly amazing.

@@Olaf-Lingen2023 I have all the DLC I just get busy with other stuff like Dragon Quest 11 which I just finished after 100 hours and Lately I've gotten really into Pinball FX and making table guides which takes forever but I'm in the top 1% of players on many of the tables I've played and I have a group to compete with now which makes Pinball FX way more fun; the same guys who are going to be playing Mechwarrior with me soon actually.

Thanks. I need to play it again. I haven't touched it since the melee expansion came out and I was really excited for that. I'm supposed to get back to it soon but the boys also want to play Arma III and Earth Defense Force 5 and right now I'm neck deep in Dinkum. So many games, not enough time.

@@kevobot9342 it's funny, nobody in my community remembered Mechwarrior 5 existed and now I have had a full 4 player lance for a week because the more I play it the more people buy it. If you watch the Toy Galaxy episode on the Battletech cartoon the top comment is from one of the producers of that show. The Axeman is one of the most prominent mechs in the first episodes so I let him know it's coming to the new game in the next patch along with melee weapons. I really wish we had the enhanced vision from the show to complement nightvision and cut out snow glare but who knows.

Elite Dangerous is similar. Make money and buy upgrades and ships to get more power.

I still think that the MW4M IA was lot better. My IA teammates were lot better in doing what i wanted them to do, there were repair buildings to increase survival.

I have very little experience in the Mechwarrior universe. MW5 is my introduction to it and I went back to watch the cartoons from when I was a kid. I do wish the AI teammates weren't dumb as hell but I did learn to micromanage them by the end of the story campaign. I need to play again now that the melee weapons are in the game.

You would enjoy it more with mods. Guaranteed

Bought it for the PS4 out of curiosity. 2 years later I'm playing on PC with crazy mods. DO. NOT. UNDERESTIMATE. THIS. GAME. It's a DRUG.

I will disagree with the soundtrack being ignored in mechwarrior games point. While true Mw5 ost is generic as can be. Mw2, its 2 expansions, Mw4 and it's 2 expansions have amazing soundtracks (just look up mw4 mercs "hunter" or mw4 vengeance "push")

I think I accidentally gave a negative impression of the music for MW5. I think it's really good for being background music and not taking the attention away from the important battlefield sounds. I haven't had a chance to look at older Mechwarrior titles unfortunately. I'm currently investing a lot of time in that other huge older tabletop gaming franchise known as Warhammer 40k because of Darktide which I recently reviewed.

Simple answer is no. This game screwed over buyers. And didn’t have update for a year…. Till it was available on steam. But yes it is the mediocre mechwarior. The battletech fandom, makes some fantastic mods. The best of which is Merctech which radically alters the experience.

Merctech is good but so is the YAML (Yet Another Mech Lab) and it's various supported mods.
