This is the kind of mod I live for. One that takes a game either I only played briefly. Or played for hours and moved away from only to have a mod fundamentally change the game in a way that makes me dive back into it Hard. Thank you mod authors. You rock.

Hi, Captain Shack! Glad to see you're enjoying BTA. Wanted to respond to a few things you mentioned earlier in the video (don't have time to watch the entire video, just commenting on what I can): -You mentioned wanting true blue infantry platoons. Right now, that's semi-possible, but not in a way that plays well or looks good. Additionally, I've been unable to really determine a good role for true infantry on the BTA battlefield. However, it's something I've always got on my mind and may come to BTA one day if something good crops up to represent them with and if a good role for them can be found. -Performance is always on our mind and we try to incorporate performance gains wherever we can, whenever we can. As to the general slower speed of gameplay, yeah, that's just kind of a consequence of BTA being a much bigger game and experience than vanilla HBS BT. Comes with the territory. -BA with Claws: there are two kinds of BA, BA with Battle Claws and BA with Mag Clamps. Battle Claw BA can swarm enemies and tear them up. Mag Clamp BA cannot swarm, but they can still ride on friendly units. The trade-off is that generally Mag Clamp BA carry much much heavier firepower than Battle Claw BA. Your BA are all claw BA, I believe. -The reason why it tabbed off your Locust when you hit Careful Maneuvers is a base game "bug" (really, an unexpected behavior because the base game never had anything like Careful Maneuvers) where the game went "you used an ability, you ended your turn" and swapped to your next unit even though Careful Maneuvers doesn't actually end your turn. The game has no way to realize that and so tabs you to the next guy. Harmless bug, just mildly annoying, doesn't happen in combat.

the only way I see infantry making sense is the same way that in the novels, they are there for missions mechs are not equipped to do, like assaulting a compound that you don't want to raze or if you need to rescue someone from inside it. or, of course, for security. so the only way I see it working is if you design missions that can only be completed if you have infantry. you could also have events that give you a different option if you have infantry. on that note, if its even remotely possible to add requirements for missions before you start them (like you can only do this mission if you have an aerospace fighter, BA or infantry), it would be pretty fun if you had some special requirements like you can only complete a mission if you have a mech with hands. like you are required to recover some piece of equipment, but to carry that equipment you need a mech with hands.

Infantry are defensive ambushers, and are hard to deal with in urban environments. Therefore Infantry would need ambush missions, or chokepoint defense missions, or urban extraction missions.

Just an aside, at 24:22 you wanted to spint and were confused as to why you went less than you would if you normal moved. The reason why is sprinting consumes about 50% movement points, also gives you a gain of about five points of heat, but you also gain the Evasive bonus which is +50% to attack evasion on top of increased range. Evasive decreases the chance to be hit by ranged attacks by 10% for each cheveron you get.

I've always hated roguetech. I keep trying it every few months or so, and keep gong back to 3062. main problem is that RT makes zero attempt at balancing all the random crap they keep throwing into it.
In my headcannon, the Locust not only goes zoom but it can crouch almost down to the ground, making it have roughly the same profile of a tank. That way it can use a lot more things as cover than most other mechs. So locust be zooming from cover to cover and be as anoying as only a locust could be.

In the tabletop, Locusts only take up half a slot in a dropship, making them extremely efficient scouting lances. It only takes 2 of your 12 slots to bring 4 Locust. The rest can then be heavier.
Just wanted to say that this is the video that introduced me to Battletech and, months later, I'm running my own mercenary company. So, thanks Captain.
Some general advice here. 1. After picking "Move" destination, as you're adjusting the direction you want to face, the color of the cone for firing arc indicates the optimal range of weapons you've got mounted on the mech. The more opaque, the more of your weapons are in optimal range. 2. Keep in mind that mechs with more than 1 type of ammo on board get to switch it during mission by clicking on the type of ammo you've got loaded. Same thing with firing mode - if you're in a pinch and are willing to risk damaging a module, you can for example unload LRMs at close range with decent accuracy. 3. You might consider dropping the jump jets. They're a good idea in theory, but in practice unless I'm playing on heavily forrested or mountainous terrain, they end up being wasted tonnage most of the time. 4. Machine guns have extra damage vs battle armor. Use this knowledge as you see fit. 5. Running missions for Local Government doesn't give you faction reputation. Locals and Independents, always first in line to get screwed. 6. That poor Shadow Hawk with a single SRM 4 and 4 tons of SRM ammo... "Look how they massacred my boy"...
@colby1398

I wish Shadow Hawks were good. But even in the tabletop if you do the math they end up C-tier at best. Which is a shame
@derkylos

@@colby1398 Some variants are good. Sure, the 2H is kind of sucky because it tries to do everything well and is missing 2 jump jets, but even just rolling back to the 2Hb is pretty good (I mean, anything with an LB 10-X tends to do quite well...) and anything 5 or later is a pretty solid medium (mainly because they added the missing jump jets, allowing it to actually fulfill a medium's role, rather than being a lightly armoured and armed assault...)
Started playing MW5 and i see why you like the locust.
pretty cool mod, you might like MechHQ, it's a free game that is highly customizable, it uses the core battletech rules, with tons of optional rules and house rules to use, there is no limit to how large of a force you want to command, of course it doesn't have the visuals that this game has, but I really like it at least.

Yeah, something that eternally frustrates me is that BattleMechs are canonically about 10m tall average (that was definitely the intent of it's creators), yet artists love to make them comically huge all the time and even stuff that _should be_ more accurate isn't sometimes. In Decision at Thunder Rift even an Atlas is like 13m tall. Cockpits are usually described as very cramped (except for when someone's been smoking too much and draws one with storage chests and a toilet inside...) One "level" in tabletop is six feet and trees are two levels tall, they act as cover for your entire mech, so... Thankfully Catalyst Game Labs released an official scale chart (hard to find online though) and they're being conservative as well.

@@sebastianayala5143 ...Honestly I was talking out of my ass a bit when I wrote this. There isn't even an Atlas in Thunder Rift. I was probably remembering that in the prologue at the start of the book mechs are described as "ten to twelve meters tall". The 13 meters figure apparently came out of Shrapnel Magazine somewhere but I only know that because some people on forums said as much. Supposedly the Vindicator is _nine_ meters tall in one of the novels. Something much more modern is an official scale chart that Catalyst Game Labs released in one of their Kickstarters, there isn't much about it online. In that the Atlas is nearly 15 meters, which believe it or not is bringing things back to a more conservative scale (Everything kept getting bigger over time). On the same chart the Phoenix Hawk is 11.7.

Tex (who is the voice of the character Tex in this video) has imo the best lore videos on mechwarrior in terms of entertainment and dedication to quality (the only downside is the long wait between videos, but u can't rush perfection and its always worth the wait), plus his voice just is perfect for listening to lore dump videos lol. Baradul has a TON of gameplay content for Mechwarrior Online, Mechwarrior 5, and Battletech (lots for the mod Roguetech). Easily imo the best channel for gameplay of those games as he is both entertaining and knowledgeable about the lore. Oh and definitely check out the Hired Steel animated series by TMC. As someone with 900+ hours in BT... Especially at lower levels you bring mediums and slower vehicles with heavy weapons to block enemy fighters, and throw everything fast at the cargo carriers. Otherwise they cargo gets away and you get hammered for nothing. Also I usually only have one or two 'blockers' and let everything else go for the win. You can clean up the fighters after.
Good tip to improve action economy is to remove metal from the board. This makes it even more table top accurate. In TT you wanna preferably kill off crippled mechs instead of focusing on others because of how the initiative works there. In this game you wanna kill off enemies because the rounds will go by faster :D
@colby1398
15 күн бұрын
Yeah, allowing your opponent to use their crippled mech as an initiative sink is a big mistake. Kill it and force them to activate other mechs before you, so that you get to respond.
You need to concentrate fire on one side. Every time you change sides, you hit fresh armor.
love this game. would love a full playthough
Mech Commander 2 had some vehicles and airstrike call downs. You could call in fixed artillery and scout VTLO. Also field salvage craft that could put a makeshift cockpit into a downed mech so you could walk it off the battlefield.

I would love to see you do a series on this.
@TheKeyser94
11 ай бұрын
It would be a long series, every-time that you do a mission you need to take a break, and salvage better mechs for the next battle, because this game is not forgiving when it comes to later battles, where you are out numbers and out matched by firepower, they can turn you to shreds, if you began to find heavy mechs, medium, assault and heavy, and when you do that, the best strategy to salvage is either shot at the legs and if you cant do that, put at the side of the mech and fired, there is a chance that most missiles hit the head, giving you three pieces of salvage.
Filtering by biome is done if you specialize your company towards fighting in hot or cold environments for example.
Looks fun. Wish I didn't have so much on my plate already
I just showed up and liked and subscribed because you had me at "the locust is my favorite mech" mad respect for that. Although I love the locust alot but I have fallen for the champion, all though its made by the same company as the locust though.
You could hire aerospace units in MW2 Mercs iirc, but that shit was broooken as heck.

Yeah, those Burro Flatbeds are tricky like that in the early game. No real guns, but they're quick enough to build up decent evasion as they rush the exit, and they have a good amount of armor spread all around, so chipping them to death with LRM and SRM spam is much harder than getting in a decisive kick or AC20 round. If they're getting that close to the exit, you really do need to prioritise them, even if it means showing your back to the "real threats" for a turn or two. At that level, enemy pilots thankfully aren't good enough to reliably hit you, even in the back, as long as you build up some evasion on your turn.
@riptors9777

Sometimes the game will put you far behind the convoy.. wich basically makes it impossible to win the mission even if you have speedy mediums and lights. You can't call in air strikes in MegaMek - you instead control the aerospace (or conventional) fighters yourself. Want to bomb a certain target? You might have to fly off the battlefield since you're not lined up properly (and wait for it to come back, depending on how fast it was when it flew off), and your fighter can be shot at by the enemy (harder to hit though due to the speed involved), but if you _do_ land a good strike, one or two good fighters can turn a battle around due to their ability to strike "behind the lines" - or _from_ behind of course, depending on your approach 😁

The MekHQ application allows you to run a full simulation of a mech company, down to infantry in apcs, tanks, and even space combat between frigates and starfighters if you so desire, and you can play as house/clan forces, not just mercs. It is, however, very very complicated, more of a hearts of iron to battle techs age of empires, especially the setup. also graphically its quite meh. but the depth is unmatched in battletech combat. it is tabletop rules though, so things die very very fast compared to any of the digital entries of the franchise. there is an amazing satisfaction in scrambling to rescue your ejected pilots in the middle of big stompy fights in an urban center

The VTOL you're thinking of in MW5 is called the Igor but thank god it actually doesn't exist in the lore given that the ONLY game it's ever been in is MW5 and there's never been any mention of a superheavy VOTL of that design anywhere in any of the other games or even any of the books, nor does it have and specs listed on sarna either so it's treated as a non-canonical VTOL. It's only in MW5 to provide a heavier hitting VTOL that supplements the lighter heli's in game.
Been playing and supporting this mod for a few years now. Cannot touch battletech without it now, the vanilla experience makes me a sad panda in comparison. As said by others, roguetech is like a hyper-cocain addled hard-mode version with similar features but wayyy more madcap content. While BTA is that sweetspot of advanced gameplay and generally a really authentic attempt to create an accurate battletech setting. From timeline, technology, factions and famous characters, it feels like a living world, and you're just another bunch of mercenary shmucks trying to carve out a place in it. (having godlike amounts of spare RAM and a beast CPU "can"* (*if you're lucky) help with the performance issues. But the base game engine is just a bitch to work with so there's only so much you can do. I recommend restarting the game every few missions for best performance.)
Absolutely catastrophic to find yourself in orbit of Detroit
at 5:40 you have a single SRM 4 with 4 tons of ammo. 1/2 ton of ammo would have been enough. Better yet drop 3t ammo for a SRM 6.
