    as a mechanical engineer, I confirm that the software, computer and electronic guys get more credit for salary negotiation. As pointed out, its usually to do with the type of work we do vs the world's tech focus - a mechanical engineer would have been the top dog 50 years ago where as now we focus more on computers in general. I've wanted to do a mechatronics Masters degree ever since senior year. Hopefully soon. Although mechanical engineers still get paid less, we continue to thrive on numbers, logic and problem solving. Most mechanical engineers i know ended up in finance or business analytics.

    I am an Electronics Engineer but what I've seen if you want grow up professional there is a certain point were you need some mechanical knowledge, some you gain from expereince and getting involve in multiple projects, division and not only focusing in software that most normally do, they just focus in one area. Mechanical Engineers normally are the main Project Managers but some lack in software knowledge. A mechantronics Engineer is very good in my opinion because you have knowledge of both Electronics and Mechanical Engineering but at same time are not the best in both worlds. So in general depending what you want to focus, if you want Software not necesarily need mechatronics but if you want to work in Automotive, creating machines, etc choose mechatronics or mechanical Engineering. I do respect all Engineering areas you need to learn all you can and grow up personal and professional

I will be doing everything I like, and I'll still be able to apply to software, AI, and automation jobs, and added to it I'll also know more about mechanical engineering. Overall I feel like I'll be a jack of trades and then I'll be able to get experience and specialize in whatever interests me more. and if everything I said is correct, I'll have a grate time studying mechatronics

    Hi Oliver !! Good job ! For me I decided to retrain for a career in engineering technology at the age of 38. Before I always had obstacles, typically European obstacles .... I've just finished my bachelor's degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology at the age of 42, and that was with Coop Studies courses (company/university) , where I didn't learn anything at bachelor's level on the company side! But i like the topics ( engineering filed) I'd like to specialize in mechatronics and try to do more software development/ Online studies. I'd love to be in North America! Here in Europe, we're a constipated society. Companies consider you dead after 45 years! It's another world ! There's discrimination in every direction: age, ethnic origin, religion...everything! If you show that you're creative, it's frowned upon by recruiters, who are afraid of their jobs! That's Europe's shitty mentality. If you like Finance and engineering technologies, here you'll be seen as mentally unstable, and you're a guy who doesn't know what he wants... Just Bulshit ! Too bad! :D I'm not 20 or I'd have gone to the USA or Canada! :D 🤣🤣😅😅 You've got a great KZread channel, keep up your passion for technology and mechatronics! Thanks a lot! From Border between France / Germany.

  • @OliverFoote

    @OliverFoote

    I think that the most important thing to do after getting a bachelors is to focus on one part of the field. So if you are very interested in software spend all of your time applying to those jobs. Or if you are more interested in manufacturing spend all of your time applying there. The problem with the field is it is a little broad, but I would recommend just looking for companies that are hiring Jr. Mechatronics Engineers and taking a look to see what skills they want.

You will find what your good at, and can build on that for later jobs in digitalization. Most small and medium companies are not "digital" yet, there will be a lot of opportunities for the coming decades.

  • @Fr4nkSanchez

    Electronics will focus in semiconductors, pcb, programming. Electrical very similar to electronics but in a big scale, power transmission, power generation. Mechatronics is focused in Industrial Automation they get knowledge of electronics, electrical and mechanical. Depending the area you want to focus on you will see always Engineers of these fields not necessarily you need to be mechantronics to work as Automation Engineer but the skills might be more oriented than Electrical or Electronics but the foundation is in all of them.

    Yes! There is tons of applications for a mechatronics engineer to work for a space company. A few of the people in my year have done internships with space companies so it’s definitely possible. You’d have to do quite a bit of extra work outside of the class to make yourself appealing to the companies though. So if you really want to work in space I’d recommend just doing aerospace engineering instead. But it is possible with mechatronics!

    In first world countries will go more like you say, but in countries here like in colombia believe me, there are plenty of jobs relating to the management area, such as mantainement boss and things like that, other option would be taking a job as a technician, but it is bad paid, however, there are still a few jobs about programming, but as you know you shoud at least have a knowledge about python (and its AI modules), or if you have some kind of luck you will end up working for the projects area of a company, but, it is still a blurry way, I would have rather taken a programming career, mechatronics sucks, believe me guys, I tought it was a good idea back in 2015 and now in 2021 I say that it is not a good way, the good thing is that I've repared my microwave, fridge and some other home devices, just that.
