Mechanical malfunction sparks fire on Airbus Delta jet arriving at Sea-Tac airport

"Drop your belongings, unbuckle, and head to the exits."
That's what Ashwin Menon remembered hearing on Delta Flight 604 Monday night after a mechanical malfunction caused a fire near the nose area of the Airbus jet.
The aircraft had just touched down from Cancun, Mexico, Monday night when the emergency response on board led passengers to quickly abandon their seats and head for the exit chutes.
The plane was an Airbus A321neo that was less than two years old, according to Delta Spokesperson Morgan Durrant.

There were a lot of things wrong with this incident. No fire extinguishers on tar mack, Aircraft evacuation took too long along with Air Port Fire Department response. It all boils down to the lack of proper training in case of emergency's!

I agree with your conclusion, but there's no such thing as a tar mack Tony. Some people call it a tarmac, but there's still no such thing. It's called an Apron. Air Port is one word & the plural of emergency is emergencies.

The response time on both the air crew evacuating the aircraft and especially the fire crew taking more than 6 minutes to show is very concerning. Not to mention that apparently the ground crew are not adequately trained to know how to handle an electrical issue like this. There should be two ends to that plug one going to the ground and the other plugging into the aircraft one of those ends should have been pulled to remove power. Not to mention where was the fire extinguisher that each parking space should have to help put out the small fire before it got out of control! This needs to be publicly addressed!!

when a plane is a gate with a jet bridge, almost every time the ground power unit on the jet bridge itself, and there is one cable. the end connected to the gpu cannot be removed like it can on the airplane. on the other end where the fire was, they could not pull it out safely. also. fire crews sometimes are on the other end of the airfield and can take a while to get to where they need to be, as the trucks can be heavy and not as fast as one would think, and they also have to coordinate with ground controllers to get to where they need to go safely without hitting planes

They were returning from vacation in Cancun? Right. If something electrical is plugged in and starts a fire, then any form of "man" should naturally be thinking, "Hey, that's a fire. Because we can't get near it now, let's unplug it or disconnect the power supplied at the source! (e.g., the ground cart)" WTH???
