Measuring Mass Moment of Inertia of a Wheel - Brain Waves
The mass moment of inertia of wheels affect performance of a car. The tire and rim combined have a complicated geometry, so it's hard to calculate the mass moment of inertia analytically. However, it's not hard to measure by simply rolling the wheel down a ramp. I show the calculations and do an experiment with a go cart wheel.

Fantastic explanation and experiment. I'm trying to understand the dynamics of riding electric unicycles and one of the biggest unknowns in the gyroscopic calculations is the moment of inertia of the rim and tire. This looks like the best way to measure it. Thank you so much for the video!
Nice work, and relevant to a school project here in NZ!
Nice. I just was filling report of laboratory work in our university and found out it's all based on this video :D like we did everything step by step as You.
Great video!! Well explained, helpful and practical!

Thanks:-) This one took me a while. I was pleased how it turned out, but wasn't sure anyone else would like it.
Nice video. I think "ax = radius times alpha" should be "ax = radius times second derivative of alpha)"'

alpha is already the second derivative of theta (angular disposition)
I wonder if cavemen were drawing stuff like this in the sand.

@@purdueMET Why Not. Right?
repairing the rims with cnc cut gonna cause so much imbalance i guess

It might. Rims definitely need to be balanced.
can you explain more about finding the acceleration from experimental data.

Look up the QUADREG function in your TI-89.
