    Thank you for making this video and for using clear communication throughout. I am 2 months into a career in residential maintenance and I have been tasked with a lot. I have to make cabinet and drawer front measurement sheets for our 4 different unit layouts at the complex. It did indeed seem like a daunting task until you taught me. Thank you for helping me be successful!

    Dear Terry, What a strange coincidence, my next enforced labour will include a complete kitchen amongst many other things ( Back in London till just before Christmas I think). A very interesting to note for those doing a kitchen where you order doors as you did. I suspect I'll be dealing with a complete kit to assemble which will negate many of the careful measurements & considerations to take into account. Still a very good explanatory videos for the more adventurous. Very well done. Kind regards.

    If you have existing doors; can you just measure them? Is Palmetto a company that sells directly to homeowners?

  • @ForestToFarm

    Without knowing all the details if your situation I am reluctant to say. I would call someone who knows more than us. When we bought fresh m Palmetto they were selling/shipping to the public. Not sure if that is still the case. Terry

    interesting you posted this because just yesterday I was thinking about new doors on the cabinets down stairs and I had no idea where to order them from. I was starting to think a long the lines of building my own. I may get a price from the company your mentioned.

    Hey Dave. There is a link in the video description showing his web site which has his pricing. Gotta say we are extremely pleased with the doors and its the way we will be going from now on. The wife loves them so that is a big plus!!!! LOL!!!Palmetto Cabinet Doors: www.palmettocabinetdoors.com/ Terry

    Why would you add 1 inch overlay to the height? Doesn't the door flush with the bottom? Meaning only half inch overlay for the top?

  • @ForestToFarm

    @ForestToFarm

    4 ай бұрын

    The cabinet doors only overlap the top and bottom by 1/2”. They do not go all the way to the bottom. You could go all the way to the bottom if that were the look you were after. Thanks for watching! Terry

    @@ForestToFarmAlmost every kitchen I encounter has the doors flush with the bottom of the cabinet, since they;re propped up with a kick.

    What happens if the cabinet isn’t square? My cabinet at the top is 33 3/8 and the bottom is 33 1/2. Which measurement should I use?

  • @ForestToFarm

    @ForestToFarm

    Could be a problem. You may want to go with a face mounted hinge. As far as the door size without being able to see it in person I would likely say go with the larger opening. Good luck! Terry

    @@ForestToFarm it is a framed cabinet. The top opening is 33 1/4 and the bottom opening is 33 1/2 at the opening. I’m purchasing a 1 3/8 full overlay hinge for the left door and a 1 inch for the right door because the stiles are different sizes. I’m going for 1/4 inch gap between most of my cabinets. Unfortunately my corner lazy Susan cabinets kind of throw that off. Should I just use the 33 1/2 measurement (the bigger one? I would assume I should add both of the hinge overlay measurements (1 3/8 and 1 inch) before dividing in half. Otherwise the doors would be different sizes?

    Thanks for the video but my worry is, I want to use a compact soft close hinge on a face frame, do we have a default overlay to choose or any dimension can go.

    Very good explanation! But a question - you mention 1/2 or "other" size overlays. What if you want to do a full overlay? Say you have a double door cabinet that measures 33" wide x 36" tall. Note: the 33" is not the cabinet opening but the actual cabinet width. For the width of the door, do you just split the cabinet width down the middle and subtract a 1/16" from each door (i.e. 33" / 2 = 16 1/2" per side. Therefore, subtract 1/16" and you end up with a door that is 16 7/16" wide). For the height, do you leave a 1/16" on top AND bottom for a total of 1/8" subtraction from 36" (as such, a 35 7/8" tall door)? Thank you in advance for your response!!

    So sorry this slipped by me. I am not 100% sure about a full overlay. Its been so long since I did work like that. Like when I worked with my grandpa many years ago. I do not want to steer you wrong. Terry

    Great video, other than the part where you said to take 1/16 off the "overall measurement" for the below sink split doors. While you said that, you were gesturing only the split measurement. So I'm not sure if I am taking the 1/16 off of each door measurement, or off the overall measurement. I'm guessing it is each door.

    Hello,Thanks!! You take 1/16" off of each door for a total of 1/8' off the entire width of the opening. Hope that helps. :) Terry

    I would imagine writing down to 18 7/8 above the 19 7/8 which is the size you need can actually confuse you too I don't know why you wrote both measurements down
