The fact that they didn't know it was a Broadway show is super funny, especially if we count that Renee (Regina in the movie) was one of the Reginas on Broadway.

I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to see other people actually enjoy this movie because I was beginning to think I was the only one. So many people just took it way too seriously and went in thinking it was meant as a replacement of the original when they should have just taken it as a fun supplement to the OG. It’s literally just a movie to have fun with and I’ve had SO much fun with it. I think Reneé said it best when she said “We’re not out here curing cancer, we’re just having fun.”

@@hectortrujillo4311it’s been annoying me that the only comparisons everybody wants to make is to the original movie when this is an adaptation of the broadway musical 😭 it’s the same story but some things are different! the biggest one is it taking place in the social media age. I think they did a wonderful job at portraying the musical’s tone and story, even if the songs themselves were toned down a lot for a film setting.

yeah I was actually a bit disappointed in the movie because I am so used to her real life performances. Not that she was bad in the movie ! But she is even better live.

I loved how you two were able to enjoy this movie, there's a lot of people who didn't because they couldn't stop comparing this one to the original, and I love the original but both are so different! great reaction!

@@jayman9910 it's OK to compare, I'm the first person to say that the original has more depth and that the songs were way better in Broadway. But I think that when it stops people from enjoying a movie that is still fun to watch despite not being as great as the source material, it is a bit sad.

This musical remake was reallyyy fun. I enjoyed it a lot and liked how all the modernized aspects of the og Mean Girls was entertaining instead of cringe or trying too hard.

Fun fact! Auli'i Cravalho playing Janice is also the voice of Moana. Also strong vocals on the cast, and I agree that Cady is the weakest but it's hard to slay with all that star quality side cast 🎉

i’ve seen renee rapp live twice and can confirm that she is even more heavenly in person

LGBTQ+ relationships in high school now are definitely more seen in public (pda less common due to mine having blatant homophobia at times) but it’s not surprising to see a queer couple hold hands or hug or lean on each other. We have a GSA club at my school and they show up at a lot of club events so it’s nice to see how we’re taking steps not to ostracize anyone in the queer community.

So Mean girls is an actual musical that was on Broadway based off the movie, Renee Rap who played Regina George is an actual singer. She has amazing music and even played Regina George in the Broadway musical.

For your point about queerness in high school and if this matches current high school- I graduated a couple years ago, but yes absolutely. My whole friend group was queer. Lots of my high school experimented at some point. It was definitely heavy on queer representation, and not in a way that was hidden! that can also ABSOLUTELY be credited to me being in a liberal city, though. i don't think it's the reality everywhere right now. still, i felt very represented in this movie and the way queer people just existed!

Finally watched the movie yesterday and I’m so happy to watch with y’all. I remember the original one with you guys and it was hilarious. This one was definitely better than I expected. ❤❤

I didn't see anyone in the comments answering your question but yeah, I mean it's already been over 5 years since I left high school and lgbt+ couples are def out just like anyone else. Some people are more discreet than others but that's just like some hetero couples are more discreet, it's just a personality thing. I'm european tho, but I say that and I went to catholic middle and high school and my high school was more in the countryside so yeah that's my answer to your question :) Loved your reactions!! Thanks for the video! Btw Reneé Rapp was also Regina in the Broadway show, so she's very used to that character! AND in her opinion, Regina is a lesbian!! *yayy* I mean there are many many indications throughout the movie if you know where to look which point to that haha It's easy to miss though, through our heteronormative lens but that's her interpretation of this character and a lot of other people's, just fyi ;)

These guys totally erased the first movie from their minds or barely paid attention to it, Jaby acting like "Grool" was something he's never heard before when the first movie did it line for line was bizarre. It felt like they were paid to laugh imo.

If you get a chance to watch the Broadway musical of Mean Girls, You should. There were some songs left out that really push the story forward.

😂 This reaction made this movie even better. Thought the same as Jaby's last comments about Cady ending up with Aaron. And that change would've made sense to me. That story, poor Syntell. 😅

Renee who is Regina George she actually played Regina in the broadway version of mean girls! And I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert (should check out her music it’s so good) and she sounds even better (which did not think was possible) in person! 😍 great reaction! You not knowing that Mean Girls is a musical is crazy to me.

I completed my high school education in 2016, a time when the topic of legalizing same-sex marriage was still being debated. A year later, Australia passed a law allowing same-sex marriage. During my time in high school in Melbourne, Australia (2011-2016), LGBTQ individuals were not as open about their sexuality, and many were still figuring it out, unless they identified as heterosexual.

I still can't stop smiling at the hilarious irony that not only are both Regina and Gretchen romancing women in their previous roles before landing this movie, but Regina dates women in real life and is such a chick magnet in real life that those same women bought over 100,000 concert tickets in 2 minutes just to be around this Regina. That's like one of biggest turnarounds I've ever seen.

I was a 2020 "graduate" in a more rural and socially conservative area of the UK, and while I knew a lot of other queer people because I am queer, not a lot of people were open about it, and there was still a lot of homophobia / transphobia, from teachers and students (one straight relationship I knew between a transgender guy and cisgender girl I knew got a telling off for holding hands because they weren't "a straight couple" - and we had a charity event for homeless youth banned, allegedly because they largely provided for LGBTQ+ youth and the school was worried about the potential for the controversy. A lot of LGBTQ+ displays or the rooms of openly LGBTQ+ teachers were smashed up or had Swastikas and hate speech drawn on them, and I heard of at least one guy getting beaten up for being gay). I don't know what it would be like in a different school, in a more liberal area, or in other countries (or even in the past couple years) - but it still had a lot of room for improvement when I left.

The spaced out girl is Avantika Vandanapu. Also, at only 19, she is the first South Asian to star and produce a show sold to Disney, called "Crown of Wishes," based on Hindu mythology. What I'm saying is this: I can't blame anybody. It's always been adults who played high school kids. Could have been a Mila Kunis lying-about-her-age thing. (To anybody who read this before I edited it within 30 mintues (somehow), I did the math about her age wrong. Being born in 2005 means she turned 19, not 18. If this was filmed before she turned 18, then her dance scene emphasizing her breasts would have been creepy).

Amy Poehler did her thing in the original, but miss "Can't tell when a black male cop is whitefacing as a woman" Busy Philipps did it for me a little more. I'd reject Regina too (but not in real life, because both [grown ass adult actresses in real life] wome are fine as hell).

Dunno why this movie got shit on so much. I really enjoyed it.

If you thought this movie was better than the first you're lying or completely erased the first movie from your mind. Most of the jokes & best lines were ripped from the first movie & all these characters were basically doing bland impersonations of the OG characters. It obvious these old dudes completely forgot the first movie & only watched this musical to appeal to the younger kids & I bet you they won't ever watch this movie again. They should watch the OG movie again without reacting for a video. The OG will stand the test of time this version will be forgotten. This Syntell guy must REALLY love musicals because that's literally the only thing that makes this movie stand out from the OG. Like FFS every time these guys laughed it was mostly from a line for line joke from the first movie. Like Jaby the "Grool scene" was ripped from the OG so I bet that Grool was put on a shirt 20 years ago.

I’m 21 so a few years out of high school and no all that pda does not exist in real life but the visibility of lgbt students does. I was out in school with minor problem and there were a lot of people who were. I noticed as I left that it was getting a lot more open in the younger years too. I went to a school in central London too where there were a lot of Muslim students but even then people kept their opinions to themselves. My 16 year old sister is a ‘popular’ kid and she has a massive friend group both boys and girls half of whom are gay and dating. It’s still not perfect but thankfully most homophobes seem to be minding their business. Also I really hated Cady’s casting. Angourie Rice is a great actress but she has a sweet vibe and timid person and doesn’t fit Cady towards the end of the film. Not to mention she clearly can’t sing very well. I’m guessing her first time singing was this film. She just sticks out when they went and casted some Vocal monsters that are professionally trained and have voiced Disney princesses or performed on Broadway.

This movie is garbage. Definitely a movie of the times.

I'm glad i never watched this New Film at the theater..why did they cast a chubby girl to pkay REGINA GEORGE?!! R.G in the original film was like 95 pounds.. played by the beautiful Canadian actress RACHEL McAdams, she was excellent as Regina George.... **NOT THIS NEW ACTRESS NEVER HEARD OF HER..
