Hi Really helpful all this thanks ... i notice that when you play the A7 chord at the 5th /6th fret ( 35 secs on the vid) you then move it down a fret and up again but that is't shown on the tab?

  • @DeltaLou

Good catch. The tab will be more accurate. When I play the performance, I don't stick to the note for note process.

Great lesson, as usual. Just one query - why is the main chord in the verse a C# diminished? As the song is in the key of A, isn't it just an A7? Like a standard D7 but moved up to the 8/9th fret?

You can use both really, C# I chose as the root note in the triad. If I'd transpose it as 'A', it'd actually be called something like A/E 9 chord. I was looking more for a simplified way to express what chords are being played. Make it easier on the eye. It's all the same chord regardless. Thanks for tuning in!

Yeah it's an A7 with no root note. You could also call it a C# diminished cuz there's no root - AKA C#, E, G. You could also call it an Em6 over A, I guess, but you could call any chord a number of different ways - it's just context.

I play guitar, and I'm very interested, but this is too stressful. Why are you shouting at me? I can't tell if you're tired of explaining yourself or if you're trying to film this before 'someone' breaks the door down and drags you away.

How can someone with such a great ear for determining the intricacies of Johnson’s style be so tone deaf - can’t you tell that your guitar is out of tune? Also perhaps you can drop the 2 finger picks - you made a Martin sound like a Harmony. Other than that - great lesson!

the man just loves the music and talking about it, calm down and just skip to the lesson if that's what you want. it doesn't take much effort on your part, far less effort than he's put in to making all these lessons - at no cost to yourself ...
