@Dafyd Maddz 🥴That reminds me of "jam sessions" when I was growing up... Freaking EVERYONE played guitar, but NOBODY played bass or drums, so it would be 4-5-6 mediocre(at best) guitarists screwing around! Later, in the early 90s I discovered a passion and talent for drums that I never really had for guitar. I just wish I would've figured that out about 9 years earlier, then our jam sessions would've been more interesting(and less cringeworthy)! 😁

@@Ishbu101 lynch isn’t mentioned either. That’s because hair metal is still hurting from the stigma that has stung since grunge. It’s lessened now I’ve noticed but it’s still there. Kids in general don’t care about rock but as you said, slash Cobain Eddie Frusciante are names people know, not so much the 80s stuff. It’s far from ubiquitous. Some people would mention DeMartini. It’s the truth anyway and it doesn’t really matter what magazines and layman think. Musicians that study the guitar and take an interest in rock and roll know the truth and that should be enough. What the public gravitates towards, critics, is another matter. Guitarists love Johnny thunders. He’s another guy that average people don’t know. But guitarists and musicians do. Sometimes, it’s that way.

I was 16 when I first heard out of the cellar and had been playing for 4 years. I joined my first garage band that summer and had learned nearly every track by ear because thats how we did it back then. Warren immediately became one of my fav players. My fav solos weren't even on the radio played songs but I thought it was his best soloing on all of the albums. I bought my first Charvel because Warren played them, then eventually an ESP because Lynch played them. I liked both players pickup arrangement...double hum at the bridge and single coil at the neck. I couldn't believe the producer on a future album wanted to have a studio musician play the solos instead of Warren. You don't just replace a guitar god.

I love Warren, but wow is he confused. He says the guitar came out in 1986 for the Reach For The Sky album... which came out in 88. Meanwhile, he's playing this guitar in the You're In Love video, that came out in 85. I guess it all really does just blur together.

I used to pair a Duncan Distortion with a Quarter Pounder in an excellent ax I had John Carruthers build me in '91. I needed the QP because the Distortion is so high output it could cancel out most single coils. I prioritize the bridge pup because it's what I use 95% of the time, so the neck pup has to keep up. Warren has the right idea in pairing a 17k bridge pup with a QP. It's called guitar wisdom.

Robert Despaw - I have too many favorites to pick only 5. However, I do have one that is in both. I love the original version of "You're In Trouble" which was released on some extended versions of the EP. I don't like the version of "You're In Trouble" that ended up on Out of the Cellar. The original version is straight-up rock, where the album version is an arrangement with the dumb jungle (bass) groove.
