I love MCpro, Closing the gap even more between mobile video production and full fledge cameras, I still prefer my A7IV and Ninja V :) BUT... your phone is always with you, it's incredible how close they are getting !

Hi Rj, thanks for the amazing tutorial. Could you create a video on how to import external LUTs into the app ? Let's say I have a Kodak Lut I plan to use for my log video for color grading, I would however like to see it live on my video while shooting to make sure I have the best settings, how do I do that ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you so much. Now I am able to shoot in log and have a LUT that is totally conform to my phone. I tried it today and for the first time it fits all together. Thank you for explaining this.

Thank you for this. I just got a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and am trying to figure out how to film in log and then color grade (I'm using both Lumafusion and Capcut). I saw your video demonstrating various log/gamut combinations, but it was honestly a bit overwhelming to me, and I had no idea which combinations would work best for the S24 Ultra. I ended up using the P3-D65 gamut with the mSlog Extreme log profile and generated a LUT using the information in this video. It gave me the best results I've had so far, but there seems to be some color banding even though I'm filming in 10-bit color. This is probably a big ask, so I totally understand if you say no, but would you consider revisiting the topic of filming in log on Android using mcpro24fps? Like from an overwhelmed beginner perspective? Specifically, how do I narrow down which gamut and log profile to use? How do I choose? Surely it can't just be a random guess! And then after filming, are there specific LUTS you would recommend for an S24 Ultra, or is using the LUT generated by mcpro24fps truly the best option? Sorry for all the questions, but I've had a very difficult time researching the answers to this stuff. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! 🤔🙂

Thanks for this. You breezed through the "import to your editing software" without much elaboration, and I am having trouble duplicating it. I have DaVinci 18.5 studio and am filming with my Samsung 22ultra. Also, if you had my setup, would you have a specific settings recommendation? I know you can't setup everyone's phone, but thought it is worth a try. cheers!

Haha yes i did breeze through that part because all the editing software have their own way of importing a LUT (Adobe Premiere Pro seems the easiest). But for DaVinci the quickest way I know is to right-click anywhere in the list of LUTs (when you're in the Color Page) and select "Open in Folder" (or something to that effect) and it should open up the directory where all the LUTs are contained, then you can drag or paste your newly created LUT into that directory (or create a subfolder if you wish). Now you can switch back to Davinci, right-click that same area and select "Refresh" and it should pop up now. At least that's how i do it in Windows (assuming MacOS is similar) As for settings recommendation for you S22 Ultra, personally I'd go for the P3 gamut and one of the mSlog gamma curves (depending on your lighting environment). It should give you enough playing space for some creative color grading.

Thank you for this video. If I generate a log conversion lut for my phone (to apply it in Davinci) then what about the settings when I record? I mean the settings on the left bottom of the screen , e.g. should I still record with mlog80/sRGB REC.709? Then apply the previously generated lut in Davinci? I am a bit confused :-)

  • @RJBaculo

Thanks Arnauld. You can shoot with any input settings (mlog80/sRGB rec.709 is fine) as long as your output LUT settings is Rec.709 curve and sRGB/Rec.709 color space. That way your footage is de-log'd when you apply the LUT in Davinci. I hope that make sense :)

what's the difference between hlg and mslog and mlog, what should I use to get the best dynamic range and details, and, how to choose gamma curve and gamut, color primaries for that, and how to export the LUT?

This video shows how to export the LUT, as for which gamut and gamma curves to use, I made a video about it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lm1rrpeOj9q0lZs.htmlsi=CKB5xyr6vAPCi4UN and how to color correct/grade it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/endsy9ytqsm0mLw.htmlsi=0XzIgHUji26LbJ3o Hope this helps
