thanks for the mclane content, youtube definitely needs more of it! do you happened to know the difference between yours version (with aftermarket roller) vs the GR series with factory built in roller? is it just the roller, or also different body / HOC etc..?

  • @dwaynesworldlawn

The mower itself and where it attaches is the same. The difference will be in the roller bracket as in the factory one the HOC is exactly the same as the caster wheels. When using a reel rollers roller the diameter of the actual roller is smaller lowering your HOC anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 lower. Hope that helps and appreciate the comment

Could you post a link for the tach/hour meter? That would be very helpful keeping tabs on the hours for keeping an oil change schedule. Thanks!

Hello. Attached is a link for the one i purchased. Just keep in mind that when setting it up you want to measures how much length you will need on the wire. The wire on the side of the hours tach meter cannot be altered as it’s hard wired. On some hours meters you can cut the wire on ether side to finish installation but on this one you don’t want to start on the spark plug side as you will have too much slack and no way to cut it at the meter. Also some have claimed the rpm’s may not be accurate. I don’t have an issue with it but just being transparent. So wondering on your roller height adjustment handle, did you have to get a bushing for the bolt that has the square on it or did your height adjustment handle come with a bushing on it built into handle? I just removed a smooth roller because I was getting too much floating and went to grooved roller from reel rollers, the smooth roller had a sort of built in or welding in bushing on that handle for height adjustment where the reel roller version did not and the adjustment handle is sort of bouncing around in there. I’m sure I can go find a bushing but you would think reel rollers company would know to include this

First of all, thank you for the question and appreciate you watching my content. The small bushing was not included when i purchased my roller. I used the oem one from the caster wheels as it will fit the reel rollers. Hope this helps. 👍🏻

Hello looking to purchase one of these used. How hard was it to remove or install handle? I will need to take the mower handle off to fit in my SUV. Just concerned I won't be able to do it. Thanx and great video!

Not too bad. I would just dissemble the upper portion which is the bolts located near them Mclane logo plate or if purchases a 25inch where the cross beam would be. In addition to dissembling that you would need to remove the clutch lever either at the handle or near the belt. Once this is off you can allow the throttle cable attach as long as you can set the upper bars near the mower when transporting. Hope this helps and appreciate the question.

I am having an issue with my mclane, I’ve got somewhat of a hump at the center of my lawn, which tends to scalp or cut lower than the flat areas, and I also tend to lose power as if the machine wants to turn off as well. I’ve got the 3.5hp motor. My reel is set and the lowest it can be adjusted. Do you think I need a new bed knife or should I adjust my reel higher.

  • @dwaynesworldlawn

You should set your reel as with minimal contact while it still cutting paper. Better to be a little lose than too tight in my option. If it doesn’t cut paper they it may need to be sharpened or backlapped. With that said, if your reel is set to its lowest setting the mower more then likely will need a new reel as it’s has been adjusted as far as it will go. It could also be that bedknife is worn down as well which could be the reason as well. It’s hard to tell without actually seeing the mower. I hope this help give you a starting point and appreciate the support 👍🏻

I can’t link it into KZread. But here is the post from Facebook… Hi all, I've seen people asking about, and posting very creative solutions, on how to keep the grass catcher/hopper from dragging when cutting low. My objective was to find a solution that didn't require modifying the mower, or get anything else to make it work, when I wanted to cut low. I lengthened the screw where the handle attaches to the mower, added a nylon sleeve and a lock nut in the end. With this setup, I can use the original attachment point when I'm not cutting low or the new one when I am. The mower was set at 1/4" and the hopper was hooked over the nylon sleeve in the picture showing the ground clearance. Everything was purchased at Ace Hardware. (I bought some metal sleeves, that have a smaller OD, but found the hooks engage better with the nylon and larger OD) Parts x 2 Hex head screw 1/4"x 2" (all threads, no shoulder) Flange nut with serration 1" long nylon bushing ( ID slightly larger than 1/4". Also, I didn't tighten the lock nut to the point the bushing wouldn't rotate freely. Didn't want any pressure on it.) Lock nut ( Chose this in order to prevent vibration from potentially loosening a regular nut. Not sure if it would but with the lock nut, it's not going to happen)

Which mower do you recommend between McLane and California?

Oh that’s so hard. There are so many Benefits to each but each do have there negative points as well. The one biggest positive i can say about cal trimmer is how you set the reel to bedknife adjustment. It is so much more precise than on the Mclane. The reel also feel much smoother in operation. In either case, either mower is a great mower which is why i own both. If you ask me what i would prefer in the 25 inch version it would be Mclane. That is because the 25 inch cal trimmer does not have the same set up as the 20 inch version. It has a different drive system which is not as user friendly in a residential application. Hope this helps and appreciate the question and comment 👍🏻. You can also email me at DwaynesWorldLawn@gmail.com if you have more specific questions.
