MCFI Cooking Demo: Hispanic Heritage Month

In this episode, we're making Corn Flour Arepas.
This recipe is modeled after Dominican Arepas which are savory and flavorful. They can be made with different spices and vegetables if you would like to change them out! These are great with a side of salsa. Thank you again to Nicole Alvarado for joining us and sharing a fun snack recipe. While these are traditionally a fried recipe you can also bake them at 350 F for 15 to 20 mins or until golden brown.
Ingredients:
2 cups of corn flour
½ tablespoon salt
2 cups of milk
3 eggs
1 tablespoon of sugar
3 quarts of oil for frying
½ cup of chopped onion
Cilantro
1 tablespoon of anise
Place the corn flour into a bowl. First add 3 eggs and mix until the eggs are fully mixed in. Then slowly add milk until the batter has the consistency of a thick paste. Then add the remaining ingredients and stir evenly. With your hands, grab portions of batter to mold in your hands. Drop them carefully into warm oil or on a baking tray to bake. Cook until golden brown.
