Inspired by the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school.
Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent-the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic.
With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.
Disney’s “McFarland, USA” stars Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz, Carlos Pratts, Ramiro Rodriguez, Danny Mora,Valente Rodriguez, Vanessa Martinez and Chris Ellis and is directed by Niki Caro with screenplay by Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois and Grant Thompson, and story by Cleveland & Gilois.
Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi are producing, with Mario Iscovich and Mary Martin serving as executive producers.

My dad was a picker and the hardest worker I know. My grades were low as a kid but he raised me to go the extra 10 miles in everything because he said "nobody else will go that far". I own a law practice now and I attribute him and my mom all of it.

This movie is one of my favorites cause it shows the real reason so many people do Cross Country, it’s the team that you run with that makes every run, easy to painful, worth it all.

For me it's my favorite because it depicted another culture and what they go through. I'm Black and I can't imagine my parents or me as a 10 year old child cutting lettuce at 5 in the morning then going to school and getting out of school to go back to a field and it's hot 🤣.
I’m actually a migrant worker like them and I joined cross country because of them.I even got some of my friends to join with me that were also migrant workers.I had determination because of this movie

I didn't get to see this movie in the theater, but I got it on DVD recently, and was able to watch it. This movie has so many messages to benefit everyone. Press on for your goals. Nothing is impossible. Also has the message of unity. More of that is needed in the world.

I saw the movie in theaters. I don't remember it well but it was kinda meh. I mean it wasn't good but it wasn't bad. It just was.

Danny Diaz is my inspiration. I am an almost 56 year old woman who lost 35 pounds this past year but have been watching McFarland since its been on cable and fios. All the runners have a story to tell but I love Danny as the Under Dog. I was one all my life. If he can win the race, so can I! He's my hero here, and Blanco/White is an amazing coach. The runners did make it easy for him with their spirit and guts though. A wonderful story!

my favorite scene in this movie, well written and acted. I thought it was a great movie. Not in-your-face, but slow, patient, and building in strength throughout. Our whole family loved it, and it will be sitting on our DVD shelf when that moment comes.
People that have worked in a farm during the summer with their parents definitely understand 100 % of the movie like my self and 3 brothers did

As a cross country runner, this scene gets me going haha
This movie is so inspirational, from my freshman to sophomore year I’ve progressed from 22:19 to 17:56 in the 5k. It goes to show you if you have the work ethic and heart, you will continue to get faster.

I'm also a cross country runner too been running for six years now since my freshman year of high school and we used to watch this movie every cross country season at my coach's parents house before a race to inspire and motivate us
There's this special feeling that only cross country runners feel when it's right before the championship and you're really nervous but then your coach gives you the most motivational words you'll ever hear in your life.

Yes, based on a true story with "a WHOLE lot of literary license" by the screen writer to make a better story.🙂
Love this movie. Very Inspirational. Indeed, teachers play a crucial role in a student's life. Thank you Mr White and well done to the exceptional runners.
Senior in cross country, I've made it all three years and the big race is tomorrow. Me and my team watched this movie last night for motivation, and this scene actually made me cry. I've had a really hard year and a lot of personal loss, so these words struck a chord in me. Pray for me tomorrow.

I haven't seen it yet but didn't expect for it to be great. I think that word has been used way too often in Hollywood and throughout the film industry. The best you can hope for is a good film that's well-made and worth watching.

Livingston Hampton It is well worth it to watch, LH. I expected a good movie, but didn't expect it to be great in the way it was. No, it won't win any Academy's, but then again, that is no longer the gold standard of movie-judging anyway.

I love this movie and particularly this scene. This movie is why I run. I love the feeling, and this scene sums it up. We are all superhuman.

Tomorrow is the final day of training.. 7 people made it to the interview, 2 were moved forward to training, 1 quit the training due to their body not being able to handle it, 1 remains (me) and tomorrow decides whether or not I get the job. Thank you Jesus for the opportunity to even have an opportunity as an autistic man with issues not limited to learning with a speech issue. I’m ready to give it all I got. God bless ✨💎
