Its really hard to compare the two. They play very different styles of hockey. McDavid is a dangler, speedster, and playmaker. While Crosby is a playmaker that plays more like a grinder, very aggressive, exceptional edge work and hands.

If wishes were...I'd have loved to see Crosby at his best play Connor now. I mean the Crosby that was before head injuries. These two players are so fun to watch. Each has his own best attributes.

What a joke they won't play in the Olympics together. Imagine that team. 4 lines with CMD Crosby Tavares and Stamkos at center. Bergeron Benn Seguin Toews Getzlaf Doughty Pietrangelo Keith Burns. Too bad. Would have been fun to watch.

I'd probably put Getzlaf and Bergeron at centre on paper just for the faceoff stats, but basically 75% of their forwards can play centre anyway. Also interested to see how guys like Shea Theodore and Thomas Chabot will progress seeing as most of the core Canadian defensemen are going to be early/mid thirties by the time the next Olympics come around. Hopefully the NHL gets back into it soon or a lot of those veteran guys will be rotated out due to age or retirement.

first of all, Crosby was back to back cup champion. Second of all, Crosby is good in every bit of skill. He is WAY more physical that McDavid and im pretty sure that McDavid is taller than Crosby. Crosby has the best backhand shot in the league. Can McDavid do as good as Crosby? Have you ever seen him do a backhand like Crosby? Crosby has been injured a lot more than McDavid and he still is this good. He has the best edges and can make amazing plays. Remember that game last season when Crosby scored the winning goal against the Devils late in the season??? The puck hits the post and Crosby wacks it in with his stick in mid air. He has the best hand-eye coordination. Can McDavid score a goal like that???

I met McDavid when he was like 17, he played at one of my towns rinks when he was in the OHL and we chatted for a bit after, can’t believe he would go on to be this good!

Both great players and at their respective primes i would put them as equals, Crosby played in an era where scoring was lower than it is today and also missed a ton of games during his prime years because of injury.

The sharing points is a non argument. How does that prevent him from scoring? Does he see a chance to score and then miss cause he thinks "oh Malkin just got one" so misses on purpose

I don't know what these guys are talking about Crosby losing his skills. He's got 56 points in 46 games this season. That's a 1.22 ppg. Which is very good. He's making the playoffs this year where Connor might not make it.

BUT McDavid is coming really fast and if I had to predict McDavid by the end of this year IF he is able to help Edmonton at least make the playoffs then i think he has the crown but it also depends on how well Crosby and the Penguins do, I would say if the Penguins have a great season then Crosby is still the best but if the Pens struggle then McJesus.

The thing that amazes me is....no matter what player it is, McDavid, Matthews, Eichel...it doesn’t matter, the benchmark is always 87....the question is always asked...is he as good as Crosby? That in itself should be the answer....

You can't judge a few years into mcdavid's career. Give him more time

Crosby v McDavid... No brainer. The only thing McDavid has on Crosby is north/south speed. NOTHING ELSE. Crosby elevates the whole team when he's on the ice. He has many dimensions and many skills/tricks that combined make him simply the best overall player the game has ever seen. (No disrespect to Mr. Gretzky, who although was awesome in his day, would not have dominated today.) Crosby's no look passes, his ability to get knocked down over and over and still maintain possession, his playmaking ability, his ability to take over a game at will (see last year's playoff stats). Overall points does not equal 'best player in the world' status. Come on guys.

A lot of people didn’t take mcdavid as seriously as they do now 5 years ago

Crosby plays the best all round hockey, and I’m not just talking about offense and defense, I’m talking about the grit and playing in the trenches type of hockey, too.

McDavid is young, big, fast, has quick hands, and is more gifted physically, but Crosby is older and has more offensive and defensive game sense all around is probably still the better player for now.

Why not just meet in the Stanley Cup Final to determine the best player in the world? We all hope that to happen.

Butters Scotch There is a huge misconception too. People think that Crosby has the advantage because plays with Malkin and Hornquist, and Kessel, some great players. actually that is wrong. Crosby does not play with them 99% of the game. He only plays with them 1 minute per powerplay. Aside from that, he will never play with the other good players. So anyone that says Mcdavid is better because he gets points w\o skilled players on his team is completely wrong.

Okay, I was with him for like the "McDavid vs Crosby thing" but then he said that Crosby was going downhill and was getting worse and then I wanted to smack him in the face

Mcdavid and Crosby are the best in the league. Mcdavid with the blinding speed and hands Crosby with the finesse and technical ability on the little things. It’s just a fun time to be a hockey fan.

Crosby is a complete player leader, play maker, defensively, better face-offs, vision, work ethic, strength and hands. McDavids speed and skill combo the other things will come with experience and time

If you could have Crosby playing as he did in his prime, I wouldn't have many arguments saying Mcdavid is a better player, but I wouldn't say Crosby is playing as well as Mcdavid at this point in time. This is just an opinion and I don't mind hearing yours as long as it's said in a respectable way.

I have watches almost everyone of sids games for the past 14 years, and still say "wow how did he do that" just as often now as when he was a rookie. When he was just entering the league he reminds me a lot of mcdcvid now (who I watched while I was in college in Erie more then I do now, but still see play occasionally on nhl network) he seemed faster then everyone else and a two steps ahead of everyone else in the offensive zone. The only difference being Connor is a more natural goal scorer while Sid was always looking to set up an easy goal for a teammate. Sid has changes a lot since then. He has developed into a guy that can score goals at will when he goes with a shot over pass mentality, while still defaulting to pass first. He has become a more crafty player, while the league average players has increased in speed he has focused more on his edge work and body play to find open ice. His biggest change has been in his play away from the ice though. He no longer has as many breakaways as early in career manly because he skates low in the d zone and really focuses on goal prevention. Sid has developed into on of the best defensive forwards in the game, while still staying above a point per game and close to 100 points per season. He also picks his spots more then ever, Seeming to always jump to a different level when the players around him slump or the team is near/in the playoffs. Mcdavid is the best offensive player in the league, while Crosby in the best player. If I were starting a team today I would take mcdavid, as would any honest person.(he has at least ten more years of being in his prime then Sid) If I were starting a playoff run or had one season only I would pick Sid.

Okay great video but all that crap said about crosby is old. That was said 2 years ago before crosby won his 2nd cup and before sullivan was coach. Ever since then crosby has played the best hockey of his life and is now discussed being top 3 of all time behind lemieux and gretzky. Yes hes not as good as he was but that is the same with everyone at some point. Ovi sucks now, malkin isnt as good, getzlaf and perry are garbage, same with kopitar and bergeron and especially toews. Crosby is still #1 not because of skill, but because he is a great leader and role model and because he has acheived almost every possible award a player can recieve. McDavid will have to start winning like crosby to be #1. McDavid is an outstanding player hands down, but he isnt #1 yet. His time will come but not for a few years like it took crosby.

People keep forgetting one name... Mark Messier... Hands down the best all around player ever. A leader, tough as nails, put points up and beat people down if he had to .

crosby is more of a complete player in my opinion. sure mcdavid has unbelievable speed and a quick snap shot, but crosby below the hashmarks is unstoppable. he protects the puck like its his kid and he has such a strong base. he in my opinion is still the best

In the opinion of a completely neutral fan of the game and not of teams I feel my opinion ain't biased as most peoples opinion on the matter which seem biased because Crosby is not a very likable guy outside of Pittsburgh. In terms of raw skill I think MC David edges Crosby , more speed, better handling, better playmaking, a superb understanging of the game at his age, more creativity, more capacity to be a threat every time he has the puck, and most important more spectacular, McDavid is a player to appeal the eye, Crosby is the guy that does what needs to be done, sure he can be cheeky and has a lot of tricks under the sleeve but in terms of eye appealing Mc David is more appealing to watch. On the other hand, when it comes to what it is to be a true player and all the things that this inolves,beign a team player, a clutch player and a true leader Crosby edges McDavid by miles honestly. In terms of physicality and intelligence Crosby also edges McDavid considerably but this might develop in MCDavid as he progresses. We also have to point out McDavid is at a franchise with a kind of bad luck since Gretzky left and does not have the quality of mates and coaching that Crosby has. McDavid is too young and he had a spectacular last season but let's be honest he is still far behind Crosby but if he can keep this pace and win a Stanly Cup with the Oilers the discussion might lean towards McDavid. As for today there arent solid arguments to say McDavid is a better overall player than Sidney Corsby. As much as Crosby haters hate it it is the truth.

This was really well done. Might be my bias but McDavid has really proven how far ahead of Crosby he is the past two years. Crosby had a team that helped won the cup, mcdavid carried the oilers all the way to the second round in 2017

Honestly as of right now Crosby is the best player in the league. Mcdavid will get there, but he’s got a couple years in my opinion

Tim Hortons yes but what’s he gonna say, “McDavid is never gonna be better than me”? And when the time comes he won’t have a problem with it but you’re statement of him saying he has no problem of saying he’s the best in the world is invalid, look at the first 2 seasons of Crosby and mcdavids stats, Crosby’s are better. Yes he said it but Mcdavid also said Crosby was the best in the world still as well as no. 3 Erik Karlsson said sid was better

Tim Hortons You can't say that today's oilers are worse than the team Crosby had in front of him for the first few seasons of his career, the Edmonton oilers have so many elite forwards on there team that were drafted within the top10 and top15 that are extremely talented young players, and stand to eventually be a phenomenal team, Pittsburgh did not have that at all, Crosby had Lemieux on his wing for like 20 games his first season, and briefly played with Mark recchi (i know i spelled it wrong) but then had a shit team behind him, Malkin didn't come into the picture for a year or two

McDavid might be more dynamic on the rush, but Crosby beats him in every other aspect of the game. Crosby plays both ends of the ice. Crosby is strong as fuck and impossible to knock off the puck. Crosby can make completely average players look like all stars on his line, and no one has ever been better at this in particular. Crosby has come back from injury. Crosby started playing when guys where still trying to take your head off. Most importantly, Crosby knows how to win in the playoffs. McDavid has all the potential in the world, but he has a lot to fucking prove.

As a die hard Oilers fan, Sid is still number one. When he finally starts declining, only then will McD become the best.

Respectfully, I must disagree. Sid WAS #1. . . . now he is nowhere close to McDavid. I am a Red Wings fan but I am cheering my ass off for Edmonton to win the Cup! McDavid is the greatest player to ever put on skates, period.

Mcdavid: the best offensive player and great amounts of speed Crosby: The best technical/complete player I rather take Sid for my team as he’s probably the greatest leader a team can have, and is aggressive down low and can play both ends. At the end of the day Crosby is the best of his era and Mcdavid is the best of his era. That is why there will never be the best player Imo, just the best of his era. It’s hard to compare Crosby to Mcdavid as their difference in their age is 10 years plus Crosby missed 100+ games of his prime due to concussions.

"Crosby being a top 5 elite in the league needs to be revisited". Please in just recent years he led a team to the cup winning two in a row.

I must say that for the first time in Mcdavids career, I’m starting to see a small kink in his armor for being the best in the league. Don’t get me wrong, he IS still one of the best, however, there are small questions starting to appear and quietly challenge his stature of being the absolute best player in the league. First, you cannot get injured often. One of the single most legacy killers for a player is injuries and that curse cost Lemieux’s dominance against Gretzky and it cost Gretzky a couple scoring titles himself including in 1988. Players need to dodge injuries to stay on top which is another reason why Ovechkin’s status is held in such a high regard by maintaining his near 50 goals per season average after 15 seasons. Also, Mcdavid has not won a scoring title now in 2 years so whatever the reason, whether it was a fluke supremacy of Kucherov or Draisaityl pulling ahead to win it seems there’s always one person lately who came through just a few points ahead of Mcdavid to win the title so in this case it is not always good being number 2 when your considered number 1. Even small things like losing out to the all-star speed competition for the first time all contributes to his personal status. The most impressive feat I think Mcdavid has ever achieved in the NHL to prove his prestige in my opinion was in 2017-2018 when in the first half of the season he was very far behind in the scoring lead due to illness and I thought for sure he was going to lose the title, but had a complete dominance of PPG in the second half to catch up and blow past everyone to win another scoring title. If Mcdavid is to continue to be considered THE BEST and not just one of the best in my opinion as a forward he needs to stay healthy and statistically show it no matter what. Period. Your personal achievements and team wins dictate your legacy in the league, so a few more scoring titles and a Stanley cup will solidify his greatness for sure but the time is now to continue to tighten that armor.
