    Was given a pro mack by a friend because the oiler didn't work. After fishing around in the oil reservoir we found it was due to a broken oil pick up line. We weren't sure how to get at it. Saw your video and thought we'd give it a try. Looked like an endless project but in 90 minutes we had the saw apart, oil line replaced, saw cleaned and put back together. Wouldn't have known where to start without your video. By the way other than being a bit heavy it's a wood cutting son of a gun. Got two cords of bucked up the next day. Not bad for a 35 year old saw that hadn't been started in a decade. Thanks for the video.....

    Thanks for the video! After seeing how far the thing had to be torn down just for that stupid oil tube, I was half tempted to drill and tap a 3/4 or a 1 "NPT hole in the front of the tank and fix it that way but I didn't feel like waiting on Amazon for a tap and plug. Everything worked out perfectly though, thanks to your vid. Well done!

    hi from Oamaru, New Zealand. tip; prior to pulling apart i blow or roughly brush off caked up dirt etc then spray with wd40 to soak for 3 hours. after that just spray and rise off with petrol or brake cleaner then blow clean with air compressor gun. try to remove as much bulk off prior if poss. its much nicer to work on clean gear.

    I have a PM 650J (I do not know what is the differences between 650 model...) from my father. I think it was bought in 1980 here in Spain. I have started the engine, but some adjustment to do because because pretty hard to start, when started revs perfectly, but if stops for some reason very hard again to star (probably some issue with fuel or carburetor operation...). When a turn side the chainsaw engine also stops... I have replace fule line from gas tank to carburetor but.... ... Your video is a great help for me, i order to clean an check if oil line for saw is out of order or not. thanks.

    It is insane that they designed a system that required removal of over a dozen thingies just to get to the oil line, which they knew would degrade with time and need replacement. That said, pretty much every McCullogh chain saw I have worked on, if the fuel line hoses are dry rotted, so too is the oil pump hose.

Didn't take much get it back running and she runs sweet as a nut, but parts had find in UK but plenty power. It'll just sit there and tick over all day if you let it. Only negative is its a heavy sob to be swinging around all day, your arms hanging off at dvd of day lol.

    Had a new one in the 80s. Good saw other than sawdust in the airbox and a little clunky handling compared to today's saws. Didn't know the muffler was so big. No wonder I liked it's sound better than today's Husky/Stihl.

    New sub…good video. I too have this saw…30 bucks and just needs a good cleaning and I’m going to replace the oiler tube, gas lines and rebuild the carb. I don’t know that it necessarily needs all that BUT, it’s filthy which tells me it wasn’t well cared for and has sat for an unknown number of years. So it more just precautionary rebuild of common problem areas that I hope will help me avoid multiple tear downs to fix issues as they come up. The time and effort I’m hoping will put this power saw back in service for an extended period. Any thoughts about doing a video to detail the clutch tool you built? Maybe demonstrate how it works? Thanks for sharing the process! I’ve got several of the old Macs cause I’m a Macaholic!! ❤️ Wouldn’t even dare guess how many trees my Dad and I felled and bucked for firewood using the then NEW Macs back in the 70’s. Every time I’m using one, I can almost feel my Dad there with me again! I sure pray there are old Macs and trees in heaven cause I’m looking forward to many more cords with Dad one day!! Oh, I’ve got one a those fancy new Stihl saws too…but I still prefer the Macs! 😁

    i know this is 6yrs ago. but did the oil tank still leak after assembly? i went through the same thing to change the line. and no gasket on the tank, well as i was cleaning the surfaces on the tank and case there was fine clear film, and i started to clean it off and then realized after a part of it scraped off, that it was supposed to be there, anyway, forgot how i fixed that it ,went back to work for a few year. maybe 10 but it started leaking lots of oil, now i got it apart again, i think i'm gonna change the clutch bearing if i can find one. thanks, cool video.

    Yes, I did have problems with it leaking with Motoseal. I finally solved the problem by using Dirko HT sealant, the same kind that Stihl uses, it’s a little thicker than Motoseal.

    hi from oamaru new Zealand Chris. in 1982 My first saw was a McCulloch 610 which after high school walking past a shop window it was love at first site . anyway tonite I just pulled down my saw to clean oil tank which has 4 bolts just behind front holding it. the previous owner had not cleaned around fill bung prior to filling or used dirty engine oil. when sealing up that pump on reinstall the best sealant to use is Honda seal, Yamaseal or Threebond all from Honda and Honda. silicon sealant is kinda rubbish. I used petrol to wet and loosen gunge then brakecleaner to clean. I will renew rings whilst it being apart. anyway im shocked to see this American saw is metric...why?.

    i think i've figured it out, bam here's the deal...instead of dreaming that maybe mcculloch could have added a larger cap in a cap to access the line for in the future. because you know where can you get these days any type of anything like a fuel line that last more than a year if that, because everyone is trying to get on the band wagon of sales of a product that's gonna make a whole big difference in their lives (aint gonna happen,) but here's the deal, when you get the saw broke down to the last step opening the tank. hard-wire an extension brass or copper tube onto the existing nipple so that it's right in plain view of the little cap. when i say hard wire, it can't be with a piece of hose to connect it, but like a press fit with a couple of slits and a good hose clamp to hold it on, then in a year when the junk oil tube starts cracking up, reach in there with a piece of bailing wire or some needlenose and put a new line and filter back in. you notice almost everything that needs to be fixed is the last thing in the order of disassembly to get to. that's where i normally screw up and leave out 1 detail until i get it all back together and then, dam, take it all apart again. that happens a couple times, by the third try, i get it.

    @keithrayeski3147

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@bustout321 it’s not going to hurt anything to put a light bead of RTV on there. If you don’t, you well might find you wished you had when you have a small leak or, it’s sucking air and won’t oil right. That’s what is nice about RTV, it’s easy to unseal and clean off if you ever need to replace the line again. Also keep in mind another comment from the guy who had sealant blocking the port. If you’re careful, you shouldn’t run into that issue.

    About to do this on mine, wondering if I can't just get some big 90° needlenose pliers in there and get the new line on the barb. Also, couldn't you just take the two bottom nuts off in the same fashion as the two on top and just remove the oil tank and bottom plate? I'm about to find out so I'll be back to correct myself, very efficient that way.

  • @buckwheat7424

    @buckwheat7424

    3 жыл бұрын

    i don't thing 90' needle nose is needed, just a thin narrow snap on needlenose to hold the line to pop it on., now what was the right angle other line going to other than that filter. i've put lines on in the tanks , it's not easy buy i black tape the hose to the end of a long screwdriver leaving a half in or little more extend past the screwdriver. it's hard to see what's gong on with everything in the filler hole, but when you get it on the barb. the gas leftover in the tank will by then melt the tape glue and it slides right off, in not, put some gas in it and it's loosen up the grip. the oil filler hole is a bit smaller. i'm gonna try it.

    How ya doin, I got one of these old 610 saws and the auto oiler wasn't working. I swapped the oiler with one from a parts saw and all of a sudden she was a screamer, like lean/air. I see you removed the oiler, how did you seal it back down? I found what looked like clear silicone on the threads of the 4 original mount screws... I hate to think I have to seal all 4 of those?

  • @cobhc1986

    Hello, sorry I didn't see your comment until now. If I remember correctly, there should only be a diaphragm and maybe gasket under the pump. The silicone might have been from someone's previous attempt at sealing it. I would suggest trying to find a replacement diaphragm and gasket if it has one. Ebay is a good place to look for saw parts.
