Ha!!! Yes!! At least my prediction came true. I predicted McCartney III would be released ending in a Zero. I said this in 1980 when I was 10, buying the Coming Up 45, playing it to death. I'm glad my wish came true.

Well Andrew I was holding my breath hoping that you would like this album and I'm so glad you did. I've played this album now about seven times and I really enjoy it. Another thing is you were so right about deep deep feeling. I couldn't explain that song but you explained it for me, thank you. Even though it's over 8 minutes you just have to crank it up and just sit down and just listen to it. And for you Andrew I'm going to give you a 10 out of 10 for your review. Very honest.

Much nonsense dispensed elsewhere (never on here) about Paul's voice. Having heard it meself now, it's absolutely fine. His 'median' singing voice is nowadays drier and an octave lower than in his younger days, (to, presumably, ensure he stays in tune on the higher chords), but still works in its own right.

This is a real grower. Gets better the more you play and the more you discover. Sounds great too. The songs are varied and show his craftsmanship off. The melodies and the playing are great. It’s really consistent as well. I like the homemade feel and lack of commercial feel. I wasn’t a fan of Come on to me and fuh you on the last album. There is no let it be, maybe I’m amazed or blackbird, but I feel very lucky we can still listen to his music after all this time and for it to sound so fresh and warm. Sounds perfect by the log fire this Christmas.

Listened to it three times now. First impression was, some good songs, some classic Macca tracks. With each listen, the album seems to open up a bit and I’m confident it will end up a favourite. Does it compete with his best? Dunno and it doesn’t matter. The guy is 78 and nobody has the rights to be this good at that age. Shows what a gift the man has.

Hi Andrew! I really enjoyed your well considered thoughts on MIII. I’ve been listening to the low-fi mp3 version doing the rounds and I agree it’s a real grower of an album compared to the joyous summer vibe immediacy of Egypt Station. I can’t wait to hear the full quality *actual* album at full volume! So far the only tracks that haven’t grabbed me are Women & Wives and Slidin. Even they are good solid tracks though, that I suspect I will warm to in time. Pretty Boys is the most pleasant surprise for me, a gorgeous track I am still discovering hidden delights in. All in all, this album is a real treat that rewards re-listening and the perfect winter follow up to ES!

Sorry for leaving so many post on your vids but you have risen to the top section of my viewing obsession, so am currently easing my anxiety by giving my two penneth and involving myself in your impressive channel... As with 'Egypt Station' I'm still trying to give love to his recent work but really struggling so far 'Long Tailed Winter Bird' & 'Winter Bird / When Winter Comes' are the only two I can give that love to... For me I think that it's mainly the lyrics I struggle with when it comes to McCartney...

I've been avoiding all reviews, as I like to hear things first on a blank canvas, as it were, but as I'm so close to hearing this myself I thought I'd listen to your thoughts, Andrew. It all sounds as though this is the sort of Macca album that is right up my street, because you mentioned 'smashing' Egypt Station, Chaos and Electric Arguments together - wow, those are my favourite three albums of his since Flaming Pie so that sounds very promising! Enjoyed your post, fella, and wishing you and yours a good Christmas and peaceful healthy New Year.

Really a nice surprise, glad to have the album in the collection.

I love it. All of it. Ive listened all the way through about 6 times. I've been surprised how equivocal some reviews on youtube have been. I guess critics feel they arent doing their job if they dont criticize something, but I feel like people are really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find things to criticize. It would be a wonderful album to have on in the background at a party, or, under lockdown, to blast around the house while doing chores. It should be played loud with a good sound system.

As always a great video, to me you are like the chairman of an online Beatles and Solo Beatles society, what with great reviews, opinions and listening parties you really do cover the lot. Thankyou Sir! As for the album I have to say that Mr McCartney most definitely still has it, it goes to prove that when you are as good as he is it never really goes. I don’t liken him to Bob Dylan (not really a Dylan fan I’m afraid) I liken him to David Hockney- still burning with artistic brilliance and still in rude creative health. This album really does grow with each listen but for me it catches light when Deep Deep Feeling kicks in. How many artists let alone one who is 78 could produce a track this fantastic? For me that track is up there with the best of what he has written over the years and considering what Paul McCartney has written that’s quite an achievement! This album has more than a shade of melancholy and reflection but that’s absolutely fine by me, that said - at the same time it’s uplifting too. Paul McCartney is still a force and without doubt the greatest living British songwriter- but then we knew that already didn’t we?!

  • @AndrewDixonMusic

Thanks Batt (or Mr Mann?)! Interesting comparison to Hockney, with them being good friends. Deep Deep Feeling is the kind of thing (like "Appreciate" on NEW) that puts Paul in a completely different creative league to everyone else of his era.

Just had my first listen, really enjoyed it, I have to agree with you it was really nice to hear his voice as a 78 year old, that is after all who he is now. First thing I have to say is off the back of this I really really would like to hear a McCartney album recorded with Rick Rueben in the same vain as the Johnny Cash albums. Favorite songs from the first listen are Deep Deep Feeling, really interesting production, soundscapes are beautiful. ALSO loved Deep Down, great vocals, proves he can still belt out a rocker. I also like that is just fees like he's having fun, I wouldn't say its a commercial sounding album, he hasn't made this for a series of singles that's for sure.

I have the red vinyl album on order but downloaded a copy from a torrent site and have listened 3 times through. As per usual it sounds better after each listening with my only criticism being his attempts at a falsetto voice which at his age now I don't think he should be attempting. Great review... so much better than most in the press... to hear a real McCartney/Beatles fan break it down, and not be afraid to say what he's not as keen on, is refreshing! I don't usually watch reviews, but I stuck around right to the end as your knowledge and passion really shine through. I never got Egypt Station, I really wanted to, but apart from one or two songs, it just didn't do it for me. This album, however, feels like a real classic, certainly in his top 5... I feel lucky to be able to experience such an awesome piece of rock history! Pretty Boys could have been on the White Album... imagine John Lennon singing the backing vocals near the end... to me if they'd been able to reunite this would have been a late Beatles classic, but the whole album works for me. Kiss of Venus is up there with Calico Skies, Deep Feeling is mind-blowingly good... though I have to agree with you about Slidin'... it's not bad, but would definitely be the one I'd skip if I were in a hurry :)

A bit behind with my viewing but wanted to listen to the album first before hearing what you had to say and then of course Xmas festivity hit. I’ve only listened to it twice so far, on the first listen apart from the opening track and seize the day nothing seemed to jump out at me, except overall I just knew that there was enough there to know that the album was going to grow on me!!!! And sure enough it has already started on the 2nd listen, find my way, women and wives, the kiss of Venus (so glad you touched on his voice, thought it was quiet beautiful, I’m sure plenty will trash it and say how he has lost it) and the last track (also love the film short that accompanies the song) are starting to stand out. I guess what I like about this album is that I know I will here more and more on the next few listens and only time will tell where it ranks in the Macca discography!!! Just so pleased we are still getting new music and so glad you like the album!!!!!

Did you see theres a new Ringo “lockdown” album been announced as well ? “Zoom In was recorded at Ringo Starr’s home studio from April to October 2020. He collaborated with Jeff Zobar who penned the title track, featuring Robbie Krieger on guitar. Sam Hollander wrote and produced “Teach Me To Tango;” Ringo added vocals and, of course, drums. Ringo co-wrote “Tides Will Turn” with his engineer Bruce Sugar, adding Reggae musicians who played with Bob Marley. “Not Enough Love In the World” was written by long-time All Starr member Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams”

Just heard it full blast on headphones. Favorites cuts: Lavatory Lil and Deep Deep Feeling. General impression. Great recordings of the individual instruments. Fantastic/tasty drumming throughout. Very creative on the echo and reverb effects. Dynamic compression on pianos and guitars are “slammed” (something that Paul has been doing for a long time.) Regarding the song writing on the album. It comes across as Paul saying what he wants to say without the limitation of pleasing a producer or an audience. I respect it and love it. He has earned it. Just got mine today! There's no bigger McCartney fan than me (I bet everybody says that) and I was expecting disappointment, especially as his voice has changed, but I was surprised by 2 songs that stand out on first listening : Seize the day reminds me of something on Pepper Psychedelic Beatles vibe. Also, 'when winter comes' I keep imagining a Rupert the bear cartoon with this being one of the songs. I like these two but I think I'm going to have to see if any of the others can grow on me but it's a first listen so too early to judge the album.

Certainly true, the album sounds much better when played on a hi fi system (at volume and with LP) than played on CD on a small machine - particularly Deep Deep Feeling, where the waves of undulating sound textures show up. Also the vinyl LP running order is different than the CD - Slidin' after Lavatory Lil and before DDF - and works better.

After hearing it briefly for the first time, a lot of interesting stuff. My only gripe is that it has been engineered by Paul's engineers, which obviously give this album a more "produced" sound than I and II. I need to listen to it properly though. A lot of interesting vocal harmonies work. Deep Deep Feeling seems like the most interesting track!
