MCA Sports Chamber Adapter 22LR in 222 Remington

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this short video I test the accuracy of an MCA Sports chamber adapter for 22LR in .222 Remington, finding it to be very precise at 10m open sights crouch shooting position.
This and many other adapters are available at mcasportsace.com/
This Valmet 12 guage over .222 Remington is my go-to gun for lots of hunting and foraging adventures.

I really enjoy my 222 / 20 ga thinking about going with the 30-30 for the 20ga. Thanks for the ideas. Hope the big wild year is going well for you.

Thanks. Always wanted a .410/.22 . Will have to research your Valmet as well.

I have a couple of the .223 to .22 LR adapters for my Mossberg Patrol bolt-action carbine and like them very much. I've also made up some Trail Boss loads for the .223 that shoot at around .22 mag speeds. I also have a .223 to .22 pellet adapter or two that are great, although as I recall I had to grind off a bit around the shoulder of the adapter to get it to chamber properly in my Patrol. So, very extremely versatile rifle now--everything from .22 pellets up to full-house .223/5.56 rounds, and they shoot pretty close to point of aim at reasonable distances for each loading.

Sounds like a good setup! The pellet adapter just uses a primer, or also some powder?

I bought a couple commercial ones that use a standard shotgun primer, but I also made my own today that uses a large pistol primer that works almost as well. Also, I mis-stated above. It was the stainless steel .223 to .22 LR adapter that I had to grind off a little of the shoulder to get it to chamber in my Mossberg Patrol. I like shooting the Aguila Colibri and Super Colibri primer-only rounds in that adapter too. Extremely quiet.

i enjoyed & thumbed up. saw u with this adapter hunting rabbits with wood beard chris originally. i have a lot of old guns... some old bolt action shot guns, break opens, single shots, over/under and such. to me nothing wrong with them just put emphasis on shot placement i say rather than running thru a lot of ammo. i like the adapter, your gun and it's versatility w/the adapter. VG - THX!

Most adapters get poor accuracy reviews, but that is because they are shooting .22LR out of a shotgun. Since this one uses the same rifling as the .222 Remington you would expect it to be very accurate. And based on my small trial it is. The other factor is that my combo gun has rifle sights - a vast improvement over trying to shoot .22LR out of a shotgun adapter with a front bead!

It is pretty good. It is blued steel. It fits the chamber perfectly. My only problem with this adapter (and it is the only one I have ever used so I don't know what the rest of them are like) is that I get a bit nervous pushing the cover/striker on to hold the 22LR in place. It has a little rubber gasket to hold it in place but because of that you have to force it on. I don't know if you could discharge the cartridge just from the force of pushing it into place but I'm always careful!

It should shoot 22LR very accurately because the rifling is already 22 calibre. Then you could get a 20 gauge adapter for the 12 gauge, and a 45/70 adapter for the 12 gauge, and.... and... :)

So does the firing pin slam into a piece of hard metal to make this think work? Any chance of damaging the firing pin, or causing misfires with prolonged use?

@@OneWildcrafter What I mean is, on the base of the adapter, where the primer would be on a standard rifle cartridge.....im assuming that is what takes the blow from the rifles firing pin, and then acts as the rimfire firing pin to fire the 22...is that how it works?

Tight grouping! I'm assuming the rifle sighted at 100 yds? I've seen you shoot a rabbit at fairly close range with your 222, how do you use your sights to adjust for shorter range targets?

  • @OneWildcrafter

    @OneWildcrafter

I have to admit that I've never done much target practicing with this rifle. I aim a bit instinctively. If I miss a grouse the first time, then I try aiming higher the next time. This was the start of me making an intentional effort to see how this gun shoots at different ranges and with the adapter.

It's an amazingly accurate rifle, but then the shooter has much to do with that. I guess aiming an inch or two higher will become a regular practice after observing your practice session. 22 shooting is the way to go with the price of ammo. Looking forward to some of your 22 hunting trips in the future.

@@OneWildcrafter I just bought one in .22 Mag for .223 so I'll find out for myself. One thing I notice is the .22 Mag is long enough that the tip almost sticks out the end, thus I think accuracy may be better than .22LR as the amount of freebore is decreased. Also, I think .22 LR can be shot from the .22 Mag adapter, so it's really two calibers in one.

I would suggest getting a proper .22 LR Auto loader with a 4X scope or red dot sight as the only use of a shotgun is for flying game and from what I've seen from your videos you mostly shoot still game. I have shoot anything from sand lizards all the way to full size Coyotes and the .22 LR is more than enough accurate and powerful to take down any game up to 450 Yards.

I remember reading somewhere about some guys who were doing beaver control. They were regularly shooting all of their beavers with a .22LR out to about 100 yards. Personally, I'm happy to take small game under 50 yards and wouldn't bother trying at something further than that.
