MBMBAM Animatic - Worcestershire, Squirrels, and Existential Crisis
Ойын-сауық
MBMBAM Animatic made for my media studies coursework!
All Audio clips belong to Justin, Travis and Griffin Mcelroy, outro music belongs to Griffin Mcelroy, visuals belong to me, so on and so forth.
(Thanks to Dylan for helping me fix the audio errors!!)

He said Worcestershire correctly, just quickly and it softened the the “t” in “wuss-tuh-sher” which is common for the accent of the area of the US where they (and I) are from. The joke is not how he said it (which is correct) but the fact that they were plugging food products and he mentioned something completely unrelated to the product.

The joke was that we thought he was going to say hunger because hunger is the best sauce is an expression and would have made sense.

Mason Hillers That could apply, too. Basically they were expecting him to either plug Nature Box, or make a pun (like the “hunger” pun) to segue way into plugging Nature Box. But he didn’t, he just gave his genuine opinion that Worcestershire is a really good sauce, even though that’s not even a Nature Box product. But a lot of people in the comments were missing that joke, and saying he said Worcestershire weird - which I was trying to point out that he didn’t (because I share a similar accent to him. He’s from West Virginia, I’m from just across the state border from him in Kentucky).

Yup he said it correctly. Americans usually full on butcher it (“war-sester-shy-er” is not correct), but he said it perfectly. Wuh-stuh-shuh is about the best approximation of the correct pronunciation as I can write down. Before you tell me “there’s no correct pronunciation, just different accents”, Worcestershire is a place in the UK, there absolutely is a correct pronunciation, and there may be accent differences but there’s still a correct way to say it. The joke is that he was expected to say “hunger”.

I agree
boy, Griffin sure put off his existential crisis for as long as possible, didn't he?
In case you are confused by the Worsticher bit, there's a famous saying that "hunger makes the best sauce", meaning that being hungry makes things taste better. That misdirect, plus the timing, made Justin absolutely lose his shit. Source: Justin explained it in an interview about 500 MBMBaM eps. I will now take questions.

Worcestershire is one of the show's best goofs of all time. Deconstructing their own ironic deconstructionist form of comedy, pushing through irony until you come back out at the other side with something genuine. An expertly and quickly fashioned rug-pull, perfectly delivered. Thank Travis for Travis.

All three of them have experience or education in the performing arts, and their comedic bread and butter is ironic subversion of expectation, but that sets an expectation of it's own, which they often further subvert. If you've ever been in an improv group, you know the guys who get the most laughs are the guys who say "no" instead of "Yes and", but that dynamic only works with a strong foundation because it means feelings and ideas are stepped on. The line in this case was obviously meant to be hunger makes the best sauce, everyone in the room expected it because that's the kind of lame bit they were leaning into. But he pulled the rug with a line that without years of contextual foundation is inane, but instead becomes the funniest thing Justin has heard all day. Was pretty obvious the animator assumed they were just laughing at his (correct) pronunciation, so I was trying to leave a post here for other art majors to nod toward without calling anyone out for "not getting it", which is narcissistic and rude; art belongs to the audience, enjoy how you enjoy. But don't call people out because you assume the way you enjoy is the right one, because everything is deeper than you think.

Hate to write a serious answer under a MBMBaM animatic, but. Nah. It's mostly the other way around. There's a difference between complex emotions and intense emotions.
And that's what your thirties are like
The Complex Emotions bit is like my Number 2 bit of McElroy greatness.
I've been working my way up through previous episodes and ran across Griffin's crisis today and had to pull over and laugh. It always makes me happy to find an episode that I first heard as an animatic.
Travis' nose looks like a smile ans it keeps making me think hes just constantly smiling
I have asthma, this video made me laugh so hard it was triggered.
I shit you not I went straight to this episode when I had an Existential Crisis just like two minutes ago.

these guys don't see the world the same as i do most of the time, but all of that stuff about spiders and moods, that resonates.
I don't care what anyone says. Laughter is contagious, even if it isn't funny.
Honestly, the “and that’s what your 30s are like” comment is the only thing getting me through my 30s. 😂
In Australia, we see spiders inside and typically leave em alone. Getting bit by a huntsman hurts(for like an hour) but most poisonous/venous spiders live outside(or underground) Most Aussies love house spiders because they take care of all the other shite we CBF to deal with.
This is great! You capture the bits very well.

Same here to be honest. I had it like when I was a teen. Always thinking about how everything is gonna end and what not. Crying time to time by myself because of it. But nowadays, I'm just like the current Griffin. I nap to cope. I can sleep anywhere and anytime given the opportunity. And my emotions aren't that complex. Something sad happens, I'd go "Shit. That's sad. Imma nap now. Ttyl." People talk about death and our impending end in this mortal coil, "Shit. Well..we all gonna go at some point. Anywho, imma stare at a wall for a couple of hours." I don't know. I can't explain it to people that wonder how existential dread doesn't affect me. And I don't think I can understand people with existential dread. I kinda forgot how that felt. And I'm thankful for it tbh..lol
My favourite thing is Justin laughing hysterically and calling Travis a dumb piece of shit I love it
