Hi Ajmal, firstly congratulate and appreciate you for making such a good video. I think I will tell my story in a little detailed manner, hoping it may help at least some people, who are at the crossroads of their life. I am a doctor and specifically a Pathologist. I completed my 12th in 2006 and that time I didn't know much about what to do in life either, but I must admit I had a wish to take MBBS though I didn't know much about it. There was no pressure from my family whatsoever and my main interest was to learn more about the human body and its workings. Anyways I did not get MBBS that year and spend another year preparing for the entrance. Now let me tell you, spending one year of your life for an entrance is a very stressful thing as at that point you are still a 12th pass out and there is no certainty that you will get through in entrance. For some people it may be a be a waste of a prime year of their life. But for me it was ok, as I was quite immature and that year did kick in a little bit of maturity into me. Also those days it was not so costly as now(the entrance coaching fees and all). Another stress factor would be many of the preparing people would be like robots studying the whole time, don't get stressed by that...since each person is different and many times quality time is more important than quantity..but since you are seeing these vegetable and robotic people and also the added pressure of uncertainty it will cause great stress. So anyway I did get through entrance and in 2007 I joined for MBBS in Government Medical college Thiruvananthapuram. Now was the interesting part I was average to may be just above average(but more of average), but once you reach there, every guy is a state, district, school or at least a class topper. But soon you realise it doesn't matter, and irrespective of that or their high entrance ranks, most of us failed in most of the exams. Yes MBBS is very tough(don't know situation now)...You fail so much you just wish at least let me pass one exam(not for everyone, telling mu case and many of my friends case). Now somehow I barely passed 1st year university exam and by this time met the person who would be my life partner(the good parts in the journey lol)....Now the next year started and that when we have pathology as a subject, I found I had an aptitude in identifying things through a microscope as I got second in an exam(by then I was very very tired of failing, the second position was a ray of hope..it made me realise I am good in something)..anyways that passed and then I went on with the flow of the course. It is quite stressful from the next year onwards as there is continuous exams and you just get tired of everything. Some of my friends who are all india toppers fell into depression and therapy. Anyways by this time I started passing more frequently as I had become more responsible with the pressure of love story unfolding and the need to stand on my feet in order to marry 😆. As years went the exams became more frequent more stressful and tougher. And some like the medicine practicals, are very unpredictable, you can pass or fail even if you are the best..a lot of luck play role, like the kind of patient you get, your mental status that time and that of the examiner. By final year exam I really was stressed as whatever happened I wanted to pass as otherwise I couldn't marry🤣😅. Anyway with my partners coaching and help I did pass!. Now my friends comes housesurgeon period. by the way I forgot while a student we have Sunday off, but all other 6 days are working and rarely we get any leave. As a house surgeon, that was also not the case, it was continuous 365 days of hardwork, no Sundays, no holidays, no nothing...if you took any off, you will have to compensate by taking those duties and then only you will get the certificate. It is a very very stressful time, you won't get enough sleep, time to eat, can't attend any family function...nothing, full time in hospital. I remember one time I got in on a Friday and got out only Sunday noon, only to get back on Monday morning. The lack of sleep at times takes toll on you mind and body, added to that are the patients and by standers especially in casualty who are at times in very bad mood themselves(of course they are in stress, and don't realise we are also in stress). I hated the sound of ambulance those days..Casulaty is quite a stress, but it's not just casualty, most places are stressful as you are responsible for lives of other human beings and many times your body and mind are in flight. Some times you feel strange and wonder what's wrong with people, like once at around 3am after seeing the last possible guy I was just trying to doze a little, when the nurse called and asked..."Doctor that bed that patient is complaining can't sleep properly, I was wondering what about my sleep...and yes even if you don't sleep you have to be working that morning too and be present at rounds. Ok anyways just a peek into it. now I realised one thing and that I believe is the best part of this period...that is I valued my sleep, I didn't want to do this, I didn't enjoy casualty, of course I will do my duty will full commitment but id dint enjoy this at all. Also I was losing my emotions a bit I felt(purely personal) seeing so much blood and death I started to feel all this as the norm and became numb and immune to many emotions compared to common man. Death was as natural as birth or anything else and I didn't feel more emotions sadness or joy etc....anyway that was over and then I didn't get PG, but yes I married the next month after getting the degree🤣...so we both were married and jobless and PG less..the verum Mbbs period😅...It was stressful again as you have no income and even after marriage you have to depend on parents(if they can afford). We both put one more year as entrance thozhilalis now to get PG entrance without any income and shamelessly depending on parents🤣. Now I realised I didn't like seeing patients anymore or that was not what I wanted to do in life, so I did not go for work when opportunity came for casualty officers or even OP...It was an interesting period as I wrote down and thought deeply what I wanted to do with my life now. There are 20 odd specialities after Mbbs and I realised I disliked most of them, thats when I remembered the exam that I passed with flying colours in second year😅 and started researching about pathology. Anyways we both managed to get decent ranks in the all india Neet exam and got in Govt medical college Kozhikode, me for pathology and my wife for Physical medicine and rehabilitation(PM &R). by then I had decided that UG I just wasted away(and even if I invested too much it didn't matter much, as anyway PG was the way forwards) and PG won't be so..and my research wasn't wrong I soon loved the subject and began to enjoy my time with the microscope. Now I think I will stop the story and tell you guys one thing....I was lucky I found pathology, otherwise I would have left the medical area and done something else, as life is short and we should do what we love...Again your personality matters I didn't like much people interaction but my wife likes and so seeing patients is something she enjoys. So look into all this before jumping in. Now coming to other matters I was 18 going to 19 when I got in MBBS and was nearly 30 when I finished PG and 1 year compulsory government service..(it will be again 3-4 years for those taking up super speciality, like most of my friends)..at 24-25 you start getting payment (if in government college) at that time it was 15000/month(increased now) and then in PG time it was 43-45000 depending on the year of residency and 50000 odd during Senior residency(all increased now)....But if you want Money there are better ways to earn it by the time you are 30. Now the other problem, nowadays too many people are passing out and there are too many doctors and there is saturation and over saturation that is resulting in lack of jobs and also reduced salaries. Also violence against medical community is at a rise, as everyone might have noticed. Now as a sincere advise, I would say all those in 11th and 12th should look at the world and what's happening around and not just what your friends and family are doing and take courses that will fit with your aptitude. Also do look into what will have more scope 5-10 years from now and not what is having scope now..have a vision...Wish all of you the very best and hope this unnecessarily long and more of a personal story was useful to at least a few...Life is short, enjoy what you are doing, look at your priorities and possibilities...and cheers to all! Also if you go to my KZread channel, though boring you can get a little idea about pathology, as I think I have posted a little here and there. - Dr Roshan Nasimudeen

@@hukkh5762 it is possible, many of my batchmates have already left for UK and USA. You must realise Indian medical degree is not accepted by most developed countries. In case of USA you have to write USMLE and in case of UK you have to write PLAB. PLAB is easier. But USA would be better. Both these cost money to write and extra effort. Won’t be easy. Due to too many people already going to UK it may be saturated soon too. Also from here we may feel it’s easy life there, but you will need to talk with those already there to know the issues they are facing. If you did Postgraduation from india, you cannot practise in US, have to do PG again there…In UK if you can if you pass the exam(not PLAB, but post PG exams like FRCpath). Even in Middle East, a person with western degree will be preferred and given much more salary than one with Indian medical degree..

Only 1% qualify in JEE where as 8-10% qualify in NEET. Further, there is no age or chance limit for NEET. Also eligibility mark for NEET is just 50% in Plus 2 (75% for JEE). So, there will be more candidates for NEET. So, NEET coaching is more profitable.

He does not do any private practice. He used to stay in the hospital for 8-10 hrs. If a patient come to his home he will not take any consulting fee. He left his two sons to decide their career. Both are now now officers in Indian Army.

Before this type of exams are being scored by person who has true intelligence. Children are only for studies, no other activities because of this coaching centres. Must stop this system of studies in Kerala.

All the skillset you described are ‘attainable’. These include communication skills, patience, ability to work in odd hours and ‘courage to withstand sight of blood. No rocket science here. But it is true that if you are extremely gifted in subjects like maths or subjects involving creativity or reasoning it is better not to take medicine, because you would be able to achieve heights better in others fields better than in medicine. Medicine requires a degree of rote learning that involve a lot of hard work. People who are exceptionally gifted in creativity or reasoning it is sheer waste of talent in spending their best years in life in rote learning.

Inebriated Kerala now getting drug addicted and Sakhakkal dispensing street justice, is an unfit place for any self respecting doctor! For all the troubles that come their way, their lifestyle is not a peaceful one! All those who contemplate the career in Kerala, think again! I agree with most of Ajmal’s narration!
