Holy crap teaching Defense first practice. Love it! Not the same ole in January hearing the coach say "We have not started learning Defense yet" KILLED ME. Go Cats!

It's funny you say that. People outside of BBN think we just got fed up with losing in the first round and the constant roster turnover. No. It's stuff like this that drove us crazy. This past season we got "We might start practicing some zone defense..." .... THIS WAS A WEEK BEFORE THE SEC TOURNAMENT!!!

I love how positive he is as a coach. I can see how he keeps the energy up and pushes the players, but without all the negativity.

Refreshing to see a coach on the court playing, demonstrating, encouraging, energetic, and praising good teamwork. Mark reminds me of Rick but thats not a surprise, i am sure Rick is watching this and beaming with a big smile. The players are totally dedicated to Mark, they know he has done all a great player can do and more. Go Cats!

Pope giving me goosebumps like he just did is the reason why I love this program and this school. This is a coach. Gritty down to the point coaching. Getting in there taking bodies like that. Whaaaaat. Let’s go

He 6-10, played center on the 96 NCAA Championship team who many feel was the greatest college team ever, and played 6 or 7 years in the NBA. He done and seen it all. His college coach was Rick Pitino and Mark Pope Gets It. Who in their right mind would not want to play for him.

I love how coach Pope is hands on and actually teaching. I'm sure there is Coach Pitino influences in his philosophy.

Watching this makes me sad remembering his years at byu even though I love where the program is at with KY. Pope was a great coach and will be great at Kentucky

Wow teaching defense first practice what a novel idea and not waiting until the season is half over and having nothing but excuses for why they have no idea what to do on defense

I hope for a 4 Years & Done program with respectable tournament results. Players only drafted when they are seniors. Every time I see those wall pads I want to run in to them. I can't explain it.

This is how Rick coached his players and Coach Popes approach is not much different, but more enthusiastic and positive. This team is going to be good.

If you'd ever been to a Coach Cal practice you'd understand that's not how he conducted them whatsoever. I'm not defending his in-game coaching but I will defend his ability to teach. Practice was always positive.

Don't do Coach Cal like that. He gave us a lot of memories, but it was time to move on. Best of luck to him, but it's so exciting to start this new chapter of Kentucky basketball!
