    Sure, you could learn marketing skills from experts in the craft (such as politicians!), but the top recruiters expect a formal marketing degree from a reputed business school. Please give us a pat on the back, by hitting the like button on the video and posting your feedback in the comments.

    Self-awareness seems to be an important trait for b-school applications and leadership in general. In your consulting experience, do you feel like, after a point of this continuous process of self-exploration, there is a breaking point after which it starts to work against your original goal or makes the end result very ugly to present on paper? In life in general, do you think self-awareness should be consciously worked upon or is it wise to just go with the flow to realize what you want to about yourself as a by-product?

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the thoughtful question. The general way it works is: Introspection --> Self-awareness --> Your actions But as with anything else, introspection also follows the law of diminishing returns. If you do to it right, you'll get the clarity you're looking for. Beyond a point it can pull you towards analysis paralysis. And you can get stuck in that first step, losing focus on why you started it, and what's the end goal. The basic idea is to know why you're doing it, how you're doing it and when you should stop. Allowing yourself to go with the flow is fine only after you've confirmed that the flow is taking you in the same direction that you've thought of. If not, you may find yourself in a place from where it'll be difficult to make course corrections later on, no matter how hard you try. If you don't know where you want to go, any road with take you there.

    Hey, I have been attracted to pursue a top deferred MBA at this point in life (2nd year, undergrad, 5-year dual degree program - MBA(tech) + BTech, NMIMS), and I reached out to a GSB alum for some clarity who encouraged me to think about the "why MBA?" Even though I feel I can predict this trajectory of doing an MBA for the future, I feel stumped with this question. It could either be that my reasons are based on my assumption of how I feel my current program won't do me well, or they are simply status seeking. I've been going in circles for quite some time now with this process. Even though I still feel strongly about how an MBA would be very helpful to me, I am still trying to understand the "need" of it that I feel at this point in life. Are there some steps that you could recommend for some clarity? PS - I don't think any deferred MBA applicant would think of applying without some amount of prediction.

    The confusion can be addressed by working for a few years. Right now, you're just getting exposed to theory in the class. When you work in a company, you'll understand what you like and what you don't. That's when you can think about whether you really need an international MBA.

    Hey, for MS Business Analytics through a scholarship what do you think would be better to go for, GMAT or GRE? Also, is work experience really advisable to go for before pursuing an MS Business Analytics? Or is it fine to directly enroll after graduation? I've also been thinking about the MIM+MS in big data and business analytics program of IE Business School,Spain. Do you think it's a good program to opt for?

    A lot would depend on what you're really expecting from the investment. With all the new (innovatively designed and moderately priced) degrees being launched in the last couple of years, it's a little too early to know how recruiters will perceive them. However, if impressing employers isn't at the top of your mind, then think about what else you'll get from it, that you can't get from a more modular series of online courses. $9,600 may seem cheap compared to the price tag we've got used to seeing on the elite programs, but it's still a large investment. Talk to folks who're attending the program, and find a few who have similar profiles and career goals. You'll get way more insights from than, as opposed to what you'll find on the official website.

As I am already a fitness professional I know the companies I can apply and easily recruit myself but what if the case I mentioned happens. Also I read that the top consulting firms in the world like BCG, Bain, McKinsey etc have something called sports consulting too. Is it true? If too many people go for building uniqueness in their profiles, do you think that becomes a norm among applicants? Is this a reason why b-schools might feel safe about admitting someone on a conventional path?

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    3 жыл бұрын

    Bschools look for a clear and above-average growth path, regardless of the path you've taken. Uniqueness can go beyond industry and role. A lot of applicants who work with us have followed the conventional path, but that makes it tougher (and not easier) for them to stand out.

I have a decent government job. But I don't like my job, because for many reasons and I always knew I had to do an MBA to leverage my career and to get more diverse roles in operations and supply chain. The loan that I have to take is still pretty huge around 50 lakhs. I don't know if it is a wise decision to go ahead with considering the stringent immigration policies of the US and the effect of this pandemic. Please guide me through this.

    A few queries to understand this better. - What score did you apply with? - Which other programs did you apply to? - Why did you choose a dual degree, instead of just an MBA? - Do you have dependents to take care of? - Do you have a worst-case plan in place, in case you have to come back after the degree?

    You're probably aware that there's a cost of living that you'd need to add to the 50 lakhs in fees. And don't forget the opportunity cost (2 years of lost salary), and also the possibility of not getting a job immediately on graduation. If you're neither excited about the program, nor have the financial muscle to weather the worst case scenario, it makes it a highly risky decision (for your dependent family, not just for you) to leave what you have in hand. Ideally this discussion should've happened before you applied, and not at this stage.

    The GMAT/GRE MBA programs that we focus expect several years of work experience. If that's what you're targetting then you don't need to get stressed out at this stage.

    Can freshers do MBA from Germany?

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    3 жыл бұрын

    You'll find several MBA programs in Germany, and across the world, that accept freshers. But we don't recommend them. It's best to gain some work experience first before considering an MBA, if you want to make the most of the experience.

    Bschool admissions consider many different aspects. Certifications and qualifications are just one piece of the puzzle. Work experience, and test scores are also very important.

    For regular MBA students, OPT is typically for 1 year after graduation. For STEM MBA students, it can be up to 3 years. Yes, you can stay back in the US during that time to search for a job.
