This dance routine really helps exemplify just how much freedom the crinoline skirt gave women in the 1800s. Look at just how freely she moves throughout the dance, how much movement she has, and you can see why they caught in so quickly and stuck around for as long as they did. All that range of movement, the weight carried by the corset, not the hips, that free space for the legs to move... it must've been truly revolutionary for the women who grew up in that period, and even more so for the women who were older when they came into style. As a historian with a side interest in fashion, being able to truly see just how such a dress moves while it's wearer dance has made things much clearer. Also, what a beautiful dress. I now want to go make one for myself. Maybe after I finish my walking skirt...

@@Olga_Ovechkina unfortunately around where I live there are none of this type of reenactors. They have reenactors for fur trading forts, early European farming settlements and Klondike type gold settlements with dancing hall girls being the closest you’ll find to any kind of historical dancing. But anything like Regency, Victorian or any other elegant ball type dancing is nonexistent.

Absolutely gorgeous clothing, on both dancers. The wide skirt almost makes it look like she's floating on the dance floor.

I remember my dad trying to teach me this & the polka... but he was batting on a sticky wicket, I was hopeless.. maybe if I'd had that dress 😍😉😆

I took ballroom dancing in HS. As we were in MN, we didn't learn the Latin dances, but the Mittel Eropen ones like the polka, schottiche, mazurka, waltz, etc.

Hey! This is a Polish noble costume from the mid-19th century. An analogue of the aristocratic costume of Europe, only with national characteristics that have survived since the 17th century:)

So beautiful! The venue is wonderful, love the clothing. The only thing that is taking away from the charm and keeping me from feeling the complete magic of going back in time is that very ridiculous looking earring in his ear. So much detail has gone into the costume, the dance and the venue that I am surprised he would let all the work be ruined by a earring.

Some men have worn earrings over the centuries, so nothing is ruined. If this was not historically accurate, Nikita would not have done it.

Им проще и привычнее двигаться в джинсах и кроссовках, а навыка танцев в этом,, антиквариате,, ещё не приобрели😀Потому и весь зал отдан им для движений, без других пар, чтобы не сталкиваться и избежать проблем!Могут научиться, если захотят.. А если не захотят? Например, за отсутствием желания? Партнершу переставляют, как копну сена, туда-сюда. А во все времена, при танце учитывалась ГРАЦИЯ. Тут её нет...Можно с коромыслом идти за водой с вёдрами, плывя по дорожке, словно лебедушка! Это моё мнение. У вас, наверное, другая точка зрения.. Спасибо за внимание.

@@tatianakireeva219 Зал "отдан", потому что это показательное выступление в перерыве бала. Все смотрят и любуются, потому что понимают, как это красиво. Грация здесь есть, если вы еë не видите - то вероятно, проблема в том, что вы не понимаете, что такое социальные танцы, и ждëте профессиональной балетной подготовки там, где еë в принципе не предполагается.

Because this is a performance. But other dances at the ball are for all guests.

My only comment is that she could have smile a little to show that she enjoyed the dance , the only time I saw her smile it was at the very end, pity it was a great dance except that she didn't enjoyed or she was not sure of her performance.

Этот танец не надо танцевать в кринолине. Неудобно. Движения смазаны. Платье скрывает особенности танца, его прелесть. Видео неудачно с этой точки зрения. Красиво, конечно, как любой бал костюмированный. Но не с точки зрения именно мазурки. Она должна так захватывать, что дыхание останавливается от восхищения.

Хочу заметить, что это не сценический танец, и не сценическое исполнение. Да, танцевать с дамой в кринолине не очень удобно. Но раньше же они танцевали мазурку, польку-мазурку, редову, и особых воспоминаний в мемуарах о неудобстве кринолина в танце я не встречал. Разумеется, что подобный схемный танец никто не танцевал, но элементы в этом танце были отдельными, которые так и танцевали, пока играла музыка. Спасибо за замечания, учтём.
