Mazdaspeed3 High Flow Cat Downpipe + KO4 Turbo Replacement
In this video we will show you how to remove your stock catted downpipe and mid-pipe exhaust section then replace it with a downpipe fitted with a single high flow cat. Along this journey to make the the Mazdaspeed3 better we also replace the original KO4 turbo with a much lower mileage example of the sample stock turbo. This lower mileage turbo will hopefully burn less oil. More Mazdaspeed3 content coming soon!

You're welcome! Thanks for the kind comment.
That heatshield on the the freaking alternator is a pain in the ass! Good job guys!
I was not expecting this to be a video based off Burnaby BC. I just recently purchased a Speed 3 as well which needs some minor work here and there. Another trick I got told if you wanted to prime the system before starting it, is to push the throttle and clutch down completely and crank it. The ECU will recognize that, and just cause the motor to crank but not start. I do this temporarily to prime my chain from rattling on cold start, until the weather gets warmer to replace the chains and VVT acutator.

Have you done the timing chains on your Speed yet?

How does that help with the chain tension? Or is it for the VVT actuator?
Lol great video... as we also made the same 2hr job into much longer. We were on the home stretch and noticed while plugging on the boost controller vacuum hoses... hey what did they say in that video to be careful about breaking expensive brittle part. Yep we broke it. A little MacGyver action drilled the end and popped in a T fitting and capped the extra end and wrapped it up with 3m electrical tape. Seems to run fine although only maxing out at 14.xx psi now with 21 max psi base tune. Previous old bad seals turbo was hitting 19.xx max psi. Anyone know anything specific? Should I just get the Cobb controller now? Thanks!

What type of aftermarket down pipe is that
Was your high flow downpipe has the cat to pass smog ? If so where did you get it i need one for my 07 mazdspeed 3

We don’t have smog here so it wasn’t really to pass smog, more to just keep the noise manageable. I don’t recall the brand but it looks like Cobb makes a similar product. My friend who owned the car picked up the part second hand.
where did you get lifts? jack stands? :/ I'm prepping to do some installing and those would make a world of difference

They are called quickjacks. I got mine at costco. Here's a link: www.costco.com/quickjack-5%2C000-lb-capacity-portable-car-lift.product.100460313.html
Any code for remove first cat?thanks

It still had a cat in the pipe we installed but it was also on an aftermarket tune. So no codes
The axle on the compression wheel must not have play, it must not move by hand, it will start consuming oil again one day. I know from experience.
Well did it stop smoking? Didn’t mention

It did smoke less, we were correct in our diagnosis.

@@Calvinm what else was wrong with it that kept it smoking?

The turbo we installed wasn’t perfect either. It’s seals were okay. It smoked a lot less but eventually blew when a boost controller vac line cracked and sent the turbo to max boost. It grenaded the turbo and we installed a new cst3 turbo.
