Watching this, with both laying side by side- brought back a funny-but-not-so-funny memory: guy was "changing" turbo (not upgrade) and after a few beers and shots with his "Garage Buddies" ended up stupidly re installing the *same* seized unit again.

Joseph Gross I don’t understand how people don’t know how to change a tire. I knew how before I ever saw anyone do it, common sense really. If you know how to screw a bottle cap on and of you can change a tire.
Just pulled my turbo on my '09 MS3 today following your guide. Clean tutorial and straight to the point. Thanks!
Best video yet for Mazda turbo replacement. Great job.
I have insane amounts of respect for this lady. That is keeper of a wife if I've ever seen one. Big props!
Wow, that was one of the best how-to videos I've seen in a long time! I'm very impressed by the high quality video shots, and the rigorous documentation of all torque values and tools used. I really liked the reassembly montage as well. Amazing (scary) keeping track off all the parts, hoses, connectors it takes to access the turbo.
Yes great video and well done to you for doing this job. One question. I have been working on cars / vans / HGV's since the 1970's and in all my years I have Never worked on a car and not ever gotten away without getting covered in... yuk, oil, crud. You say the turbo sized but dam... that is the cleanest turbo and cars engine bay i have ever seen. Keep up the good work.

True.
Wow, good on you for replacing your own turbo! On the only turbocharged car I had (Shelby GLHS) it was easier to remove the head and exhaust manifold/turbo assembly together as a unit, and it was a PITA, as you can imagine. I can't get over how clean the engine bay is in your car too. I wish I could keep mine that clean. Great vid!
I just replaced my first turbo today following your video on my pu, thank you for the detailed instructions and editing
the MZR engine is such a pain in the ass to work on. The harness is a nightmare. I love my speed 3 but god damn!
Never seen an engine dismantled and reassembled with such clean hands, clean engine compartment without one broken nail or even a smudge on that a nice shirt and top outfit.

A very good video, all be it, staged to look like she did all the work! But well done, none the less!
Wow. That is quite an involved strip down for the turbo replacement. Gives me an idea of what's involved should the Audi go bad. Thanks for the super helpful and detailed video!
Everything follows up, I watched this video twice when I installed mine and is awesome!
great video, I’ve owned my mazdaspeed6 for a couple weeks now, stock ko4 has seen better days and is smoking on most starts and cool downs, I am swapping a bnr s3 way quicker than I imagined. I haven’t been able to find any helpful videos in the mazdaspeed platform and this was by far the best. kudos to you for being a girl and owning a speed👍🏻
I envy how you're able to work on this car without getting dirty! Excellent video as always.

I think its imposible
I just blew up the turbo in my Hyundai i30 Diesel, and halfway through getting the old one out, I thought I should go check a youtube video, as it seemed so hard, and difficult to get to. But after watching this video, mine is just a walk in the park! I think I should just get back to it and stop whingeing, and maybe look for a new girlfriend! Well done girl, a great video, and you've put me back on track!
My girlfriend drives a 10 mazdaspeed3 and I drive a 07 mazdaspeed6. She pushed her speed crazy and I found this video very helpful in the future when she blow up her turbo.
my 2010 speed3 is 6 years old never had a problem with the turbo. thank god

+greddy1010 well, k04 turbo problems on Speed3`s are not uncommon. However, there are a lot of them, pulling strong, without any problems. Sadly, mine died on my last year, even though the car was stock. Changed mine to an BNR S1, hope this one last a lifetime ;) Good luck with your Mazdaspeed. Cheers.
Do you know? I find watching these videos on cars is much more informative and much easier to understand! Plus the presenter is good on the eye also, bonus.

Get a decent paint brush and brush down your motor when you change your oil and wipe it down afterwards. Neglecting to clean your motor can cause other problems with rust etc.

@@TSloanorthologisticslab i doubt that cleaning your engine of oil will protect your engine from rust, i think its a contrary result, washing it a lot will get it rusted
Almost 100k on my 2012 and my turbo just went out. This was a great find, thanks!
Love my BNR S3. 385/380 @ the wheels when on the E28 tune, in good weather. And it's still very responsive. Actually, the lack of K04 "insta-spool" helps get the power down even better as well. S3 is just about perfect for stock block, IMHO. S4 or bigger if you're going to build, for sure.
@everythingdiy

+Numinous Impressive numbers, looking forward to an S3. And yes the instant spool of the K04 can make driving a bit scary sometimes. One second your just having a good time then suddenly your torque steering towards a wall.
thanks a lot for uploading this! I got 08 mazda cx7 and the turbo went out on it, and your video is gonna be the same guide for my car!
you are awesome! I'm being changed 850 for a recon and they have had it just over 3 weeks....
Wow I can't believe you did that yourselves....Damn good video! Thanks for sharing!
sucks that you had to do it cause the turbo seized :/ but at the same time, (dunno about anyone else) but I found this video SUPER helpful, as I was thinking of upgrading the turbo on my speed in the future. At least now I know how :) so thanks for the video!
This was a huge help. I just ordered a new turbo and DP b/c my stock K04 (for an '07) is smoking and burning a ton of oil. Would love to save $1500 and not pay my dealer to do it.
Wow your engine bay is so clean kudos!
Great job dear! So good to see a lady getting down to some serious business. Awesome💪👍
im about to do this first time on my GT-T. practically the same im guessing except i dont have to remove rad/cooland or dump
Well done on the install and editing video. Best video I've found on the Mazda turbo.
👍 great job. A husbands dream wife. Now I just need to teach my wife about cars- especially my Golf R. Cheers
am glad I found your channel I got a ms3 as well, now I know how to get stuff done by myself thanks for this :D
Excellent video, using this video I was trying to replace the turbo in a Mazda CX7, I bougth a new turbo in Ebay, i did all the upper disassembly but when I lift the car and I try to start the lower dismantling my surprise was that the access to the turbo was impossible, I guess the 4x4 transmission is bigger that the Mazdaspeed3, so in a CX7 it's necessary to take out the engine to replace the turbo :(
currently doing mine and i’m now at the 2nd o2 sensor waiting on my new turbo to be shipped
I Just wanna say, Good Job to you and Steve
What a pain in the ass of a job.
I want to swap out the turbo engine altogether to a non turbo engine. Any mods I'd have to do?
..thats why i love neon srt4 and cobalts ss tubros, soooo easy
You should make a video like this for every part on every vehicle ever.
would this be the same way to change out a turbo seal??
Right, I wish that I could find cars to work on where you have someone to loosen the very tight bolts or the bolts and/or sensors which are not going to come lose. This engine is very clean, no oil residue, no real rust or oxidation on the bolts. The turbines on the speed 3s are garbage. The are under designed and run very close on the exhaust side to around 700F at operating temp. They went cheap on the exhaust side or turbine side. Maybe, they figured that the water cooling would help. Let one of these get some miles on it, go through a number of heating and cooling cycles and then I want to see a turbocharger come out of a speed 3 like this. Half the time you have to cut the body of the O2 sensor off and use a long pry bar along with a fully walled 22mm or 7/8" socket to get the O2 sensor out. You cannot use a torch to heat the mounting boss becasue of the heat shields being in the way. Most people would just take the hood off as it makes things go a lot quicker, but each to their own.
christ u gotta pretty much dismantle the entire engine compartment to do this.. Another win for brilliant engineering.
How long did the whole process take you
me with my speed6 turbo swap, the most dirty hands ever!..sweating profusely, cursing like a drunken sailor, inability to find the proper tools, *takes long break*, comes back, everything somehow goes perfectly fine and mission is accomplished.

What intercooler you're using? Looks great !!
What is that a cx9? If it's a 7 my airfilter doesn't look anything like that is that a CAI?
when you took out the turbo. did u take it out from the intake side? or did u take it out through the exhaust side?
Thanks heaps for this video Just doing my Cx7 turbo And the video is very helpful.

+everythingdiy (very nice job with your videos) ...a flare nut wrench can work also .. all these specialty sockets & wrenches can only apply limited torque, since they are split or relieved to allow the O2 wire to pass through ... PB Wrench may help, but my experience is, get the torch out, heat it up real good, then you stand a chance of getting it loose by dead blow hammering on one of these special wrenches. If you reuse the O2 sensor, expect to have to replace the metal gasket (they corrode from heat / humidity and can disintegrate when loosening the sensor).
The engine bay is cleaner than a new car. How can that be?
Belle, when you hold a turbine in your hands, there is some kind of dissonance in my engineering brain. You are such a beautiful, nice and clever girl! I respect! :)
Super smart im all about saving money and time
Was the turbo you bought rebuilt?
Awesome video! I'm in the process of doing exhaust manifold because I have a leak, not sure if it's the manifold gasket or the manifold itself but those 4 bolts from the manifold to the turbo were loose, i tightened them and it's not as bad as before but still there and I can still notice it. They were easy to get off and here you are saying they're super tight. Then when I went to torque them down 45-50 ft-lb, I was scared I was going to snap them so I'm not sure if its that that's loose and thats why I have a leak or if it actually is the manifold/gasket. Any advice/input on this would be great! I love watch your guy's videos, always super informative and easy to follow!
What size is you're t bolt clamps intake & inlet pipe
You are amazing unbelievable and most inspiring ....!!! My God 😮😭😭 I simply can not believe it. God bless you really . VOW 😮👍👍👍👏👏👏 I am glad i found this video and got to know such skilled and amazing lady who gives me courage to do things far simpler than this job. Thank you so very much 😄🙏🙏
Can I clock my turbo for under-route piping kit like this ? Without taking out downpipe ?
Another quick question....if you have car lifter to rise the car....will it be easier to do the work from the chassis compare to doing it from the top???
Wow I’m very proud of u
Where there any symptoms from the turbo seizing? Also was there noticeable shaft play?
Great job ally, how on earth do you stay so clean??? Good video,,, who says ladies can't be mechanic's, very well done, more power to you.
That vacuum hose in the back that you removed when taking the intake off (one near the turbo). Where does that go to? Thank you.
Great video. I found it looking for any help I could find with replacing the turbo in my 2008 CX-7 which failed yesterday. With our cars both being Mazda's do you think the procedure is pretty similar? Also, did you use a maintenance manual and if so which one? Also, about how long did it take to do the work?
So after i finished installation i started it up and immediately began to hear intermittent squeaking with a rough vibration and shortly after some smoke began to rise from the engine. Any ideas why this is happening???
Is there a break in period when you put in a new oem ko4 turbo?? I can’t seem to find my answer anywhere, it’s a he said she said thing.

How did you know your turbo was messed up? I don’t have a boost gauge but I’ve felt a loss in power recently and I think my turbo is messed up as well. It still kicks on but it sounds really weak and it sounds different all of a sudden. Any advice would help! I just don’t want to replace the turbo if I don’t have to, thanks!
heheheh i love how hard it is or rather how long this takes just to get a Turbo off and put a new one on! was so simple :D
Is there a difference between turbo brands? Does quality effect on speed for example?
How long did it take all together 3-4hours including putting back together?
What band was that playing at the end of the video? Great music! I've been learning a lot from your channel as I'm a new MS3 owner, thank you and keep up the Fantastic Work!
I am a bmw guy and removing the twin turbo means removing the whole engine. I am seriously considering Japanese car as I plan to simplify
......nice....I should have found your video already..... my turbo went bad on 4/25/2016 on my way back from a rural place........I know nothing about how to fix the car...and definitely I did not know you already made this video.... I sent my car to the dealer where I usually have my car service...and I spend $3000 just for turbo replacement...... cry.... you spent only $100 for a refurbished one and work very well for you.... My car is 2010 Mazda CX-7 Touring.....DISI Turbo engine.....||| Can you make more detailed replacing and fixing videos on Mazda or Nissan Murano cars? Thanks
A very well organized video and you did a good job explaining the process.
OMG thank you so much for this video. About how long did this take? I'll be using this video for a guide to replace my turbo here in the next few weeks, hopefully I'll have some help. Pretty sure my turbo is going out. Its been smoking under hard pulls for a while now. And I just noticed a weird noise under hard acceleration that sounds something like turbo whistle and really weird rattling sound. I'm going to do some inspecting before I jump right into replacing the turbo to make sure its the turbo and not something else like the timing chain or AC compressor, but I'm almost positive its the turbo.
Where did you find a lightly used turbo for $100 (if I heard that right)?? Thing looks brand new.. great videos!
Don’t even have a ms3 yet and watched all of your vids lol
So helpful, thank you!

Where did you bought your used turbo?
is that socket 3/8 for the o2 sensor
God I'm in love 😍😍 a girl working on cars it kills me! Keep it up! 👍🏻
Good video but skipping over that bottom downpipe stud was just wrong! almost impossible to get that thing out. be warned...
Where do u get the turbo? Ebay or do you think that buy a remanufacturade its a good idea its a oem
How are her hands so cleaaaaannn
20 minutes to do it? Leggooooooo
How does she keep her hands so clean? The moment I lift the hood on my car my hands get a bit of dirt. If I actually work on the car the I have grease and oil stains for at least a week. Seriously how does she do it. I need to know.
is that a v-band clamp on tip?
i hate to leave a knitty comment on a otherwise very good video. but from a professional point of view you should be removing the sump and checking the turbo return for blockage, fitting new oil lines and doing an oil + filter change. commonly turbo's seize because they get to hot. they get to hot from lack of lubricant or lack of coolant. althought im yet to see one go because of lack of coolant. just a note for the future :)
what is your full time job? not a technician?

what about the corksport turbo upgrade?
That was a great video
