    Watching this, with both laying side by side- brought back a funny-but-not-so-funny memory: guy was "changing" turbo (not upgrade) and after a few beers and shots with his "Garage Buddies" ended up stupidly re installing the *same* seized unit again.

    Love my BNR S3. 385/380 @ the wheels when on the E28 tune, in good weather. And it's still very responsive. Actually, the lack of K04 "insta-spool" helps get the power down even better as well. S3 is just about perfect for stock block, IMHO. S4 or bigger if you're going to build, for sure.

  • @tibetbill
    @tibetbill11 ай бұрын

    Right, I wish that I could find cars to work on where you have someone to loosen the very tight bolts or the bolts and/or sensors which are not going to come lose. This engine is very clean, no oil residue, no real rust or oxidation on the bolts. The turbines on the speed 3s are garbage. The are under designed and run very close on the exhaust side to around 700F at operating temp. They went cheap on the exhaust side or turbine side. Maybe, they figured that the water cooling would help. Let one of these get some miles on it, go through a number of heating and cooling cycles and then I want to see a turbocharger come out of a speed 3 like this. Half the time you have to cut the body of the O2 sensor off and use a long pry bar along with a fully walled 22mm or 7/8" socket to get the O2 sensor out. You cannot use a torch to heat the mounting boss becasue of the heat shields being in the way. Most people would just take the hood off as it makes things go a lot quicker, but each to their own.

    +everythingdiy (very nice job with your videos) ...a flare nut wrench can work also .. all these specialty sockets & wrenches can only apply limited torque, since they are split or relieved to allow the O2 wire to pass through ... PB Wrench may help, but my experience is, get the torch out, heat it up real good, then you stand a chance of getting it loose by dead blow hammering on one of these special wrenches. If you reuse the O2 sensor, expect to have to replace the metal gasket (they corrode from heat / humidity and can disintegrate when loosening the sensor).

    Awesome video! I'm in the process of doing exhaust manifold because I have a leak, not sure if it's the manifold gasket or the manifold itself but those 4 bolts from the manifold to the turbo were loose, i tightened them and it's not as bad as before but still there and I can still notice it. They were easy to get off and here you are saying they're super tight. Then when I went to torque them down 45-50 ft-lb, I was scared I was going to snap them so I'm not sure if its that that's loose and thats why I have a leak or if it actually is the manifold/gasket. Any advice/input on this would be great! I love watch your guy's videos, always super informative and easy to follow!

    How does she keep her hands so clean? The moment I lift the hood on my car my hands get a bit of dirt. If I actually work on the car the I have grease and oil stains for at least a week. Seriously how does she do it. I need to know.

    i hate to leave a knitty comment on a otherwise very good video. but from a professional point of view you should be removing the sump and checking the turbo return for blockage, fitting new oil lines and doing an oil + filter change. commonly turbo's seize because they get to hot. they get to hot from lack of lubricant or lack of coolant. althought im yet to see one go because of lack of coolant. just a note for the future :)
