My Dad had a forest green 72 rx2! I loved that car!

My first car, sadly a 1.6 piston, upgraded to a 1.8, never had the cash to convert to rotary. I remember terrible steering and the flapping bonnet hinges despite endless work to try and fix. Wish I still had it but rusted out in the subframe, so gave it to a kindergarten for a sandpit! Thanks for the video and the memories, drove that car for 7 years.

Beautiful Mazdas! RX2 is so clean through out, interior is 🔥🔥🔥 Capella RE is an early example, factory fog light switch/black fender mirrors/Sport badge, among other pieces makes this a top spec Capella RE Sport for 71. Love it in Herschel Orange, special car indeed! Great video, thanks for sharing.

Fab footage, great cars! Thanks for sharing! 👍 Spot all those tiny differences between the model years. Body painted firewall panels and different door card patterns (71). Know it's nitpicking, but it's a 71 Capella RE, of course. 😉

PS: REgarding the horns, I've heard that one is for urban use, one for rural use. Two tone horns were banned over here, so we only got the one horn button in the middle of the steering wheel.

I bought my first if many rotary mazdas an rx2 coupe in 1992, technically in australia they were sold as Mazda Capella sports RE. My first was a 1971 first shipment car. , my second was a 12/1972 t dash with the big re shield badges in the front guards near the bumper and the steel re shields . It was repainted toyota red mica 1993 colour , it looked similar to this red coupe. The first capella sports re was october 1970 these are unique in build , being eyelet terminals n screws on the wiring , indecator stalk n light switch is different. The early coupes have different corner chrome with the gutters . The later ones are fatter and wider same as usa spec. , also look at the front aprin air vents for hot n cold climates , there is a rear garnish on aust. Spec . Australia stopped the coupes after 1972 but a few private ones came in later. The door locks are a tell tail for early cars and rear aerial for series 1, consuls are also different. Another is the early bonnets are different. Love my rx2s

I can tell you know your RX2/Capella, good stuff...

We got both in Australia but the capella had a piston motor and different taillights it worked the same for 808/rx3 & 929/ rx4

Yeah totally, I’ve seen the original factory production timeline chart for all production of Mazda vehicles and it only shows the alternate configuration of each RX model having reciprocating engines. I believe the examples of RE equipped Capella’s, 1200 808 ,929 and 121 (RX5) were modified after production. Just speculation but I can’t see how else it was done if not officially on the production line.

My first classic Mazda was a 73 four door Rx2 regret selling it .

My first car age 15yo I bought a s1 4dr. 1971 ,it should have gone to the wrecking yard ,but I forged on with it, I owned it for 13 years, it was in primer for 10 years, my brother is a panel beater, he did an amazing job on paint 96' bright Ford red...wild az! My dad is a fitter and Turner, we had his old leading hand build the 12A , that took 9months ! anyhow it's the only red s1 4dr. still driving on Adelaide streets in Australia ,it took part in rotary revival 2023 , I'm so proud I saved the only one left here ,but he'll it wasnt easy ,mostly on going motivation, and it took a lot of money I don't even know how much and paint and panel was free, and the motor cost just parts only labour was free also lucky hey ,go the rotas for life yo! 😎👺🤙

I love your videos and how down to earth you are, I've had my 72 RX2 for over 21 years, I need a hood since mine seems like it was hit by meteors, where did they get the carbon hood, my engine just got refreshed, I love to send you pictures, take care guys, don't crush them, restore them!!

My first new car purchase. RX2. Lots of fun right up to where it became difficult to start. Water seals on the rotors failed at 13k. Just out of the 12k warranty and Mazda told me tough luck. Could not afford an engine rebuild and the car had no resale value so I was back to driving junk for the next few years. It did still look good parked in my driveway.

@@nazmazosr1260 If you want check out some rides in Australia and New Zealand take a look at misfire KZread channel. As a side note the outer tail lenses on the Japanese capella were amber. I think the guy said he had a lot of the original parts so hopefully they are in there.

9:32 always put the money into the ol skool RX’s bro. There’s so many more C10’s around compared to the ever dwindling number of old rotors that haven’t been turned into race cars or modified so far that another owner can’t build from a stock type base. They’ve gone through the roof in price her in Australia

He could've run the fuel line on the red coupe better, looks good otherwise...the orange S1 Capella is a very rare bird, especially with the door pull knobs that are further back, instead of forward...

Pt 2; my RX 2 , before I got it in 1993.. it featured in December 1990 Fast Fours and Rotaries plate number RX 2, in the following 3 yrs the car was involved in an accident ,being hit in both the front end and rear, apparently the owner was angry about the after the accident and went off the road again ! And it hit the sway bar mount on a kerb which shifted the mount 1.5 inches back😞my brother fixed it, but yeah much better cars than this one no longer exist scrap metal, back in the 90' people didn't know or they didn't have money for rebuilding old cars especially rotaries unfortunately, I pursued with the rotary after hearing about my older brothers mates RX 2 ex race car , and the shenanigans they got up to in the late 80s... it was involved in a crash which was the end of the road for that one ,the stories it created were epic beyond the average car ...RIP ....s2 white 4dr 😕

Black seats are factory
