I still think to this day no other rotary powered car has impressed me from an engineering standpoint as this car did! The fact that this four rotor engine was putting down massive HP/tonne numbers without induction is insane!! Also this car was insanely reliable, when it won the 24hrs of Le Mans the engineers pulled down the motor and discovered it was completely fine and could’ve kept going 🤯

It won because the other cars were given ballast, so the 787 could get a fighting chance. It's BOP, basically. There's a reason why the 787 didn't win any other race that year.

@@videofrat3115 BOP or “balance of performance” is a way of balancing out the car so it has similar performance characteristics as the rest of the grid. BOP is usually achieved through either throttle plate/turbo wastegate restrictors or the addition of ballast or “weights” to lessen the cars performance.

I heard this in person at FoS back in 2011. It was as if a V8 Formula 1 car had been chainsmoking for years. Incredible.

As a volunteer track worker myself, there are those moments where our captains as well as Race Control know to turn a blind eye to something like this

imagine being chased by this car at midnight, the noise it makes must send chill straight to your nerves. at the same time, you have to take care of all the tactics, meters, fatigue, and so on.... should be very mentally challenging.... although it was an underdog 😂

2024 here, nearly a full year after Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Season 3 OVA NEXT SKY. The sound from Shioriko Mifune's Mazda 787B in real life is so amazing! 💚

I got to.see one of these being represented in Historic IMSA GTP at the Long Beach GP in 2022. My, what a thing of beauty it was to hear this thing firsthand

This 787B is like an RX7. It's Music to my Ears

Sure, it won on a technicality.... Sauber was pissed... Be the fans weren't... All it mattters was that, it had a flashy paint job and an engine (a refined one...) that screams louder than an opera singer performing "Moon Over the Castle"... that was how lucky the 787B was, and so was the 767 in 1989 as well.
