Mazda 3/5/6/CX-7 Oil Cooler LEAKS (REAL REASON!)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-7 oil cooler seal has been known to leak. Here is why - and here are the part numbers needed to fix the problem:
Seal: LF8X-14-702
Oil cooler WITH seal: LF6W-14-700A
Oil cooler bolt: LF9V-14-789
Пікірлер: 82
Forgot to say, if that seal fails, you are losing oil all over the bottom of your engine! a lot of oil can drain out when under running pressure and it would be easy to run your engine into a dangerous likelihood of failure due to oil loss. Do not ignore the issue!
Thanks for the info! I've replaced this gasket twice now before I found out about the upgraded version of this product.

Yes.. the new upgraded part will not leak.. I've had mine on for years.. no problems

Is the upgraded one cheaper than around $200 bc I found an engine oil cooler for about $40 on Amazon but don't know if it's the upgraded one bc it comes with the cheaper looking $8 gasket you mentioned
UK here. In Europe and the UK the 2l version is fitted with the oil cooler. On my '06 Japan-built one it's the downward-pointing coolant connection that's starting to corrode and leak, not the oil seal. Prompted by your video I've just stuck a torch and mirror down the front of the engine. The label is still there and guess what - it's got FoMoCo on it. The rest of the cooler is looking a bit crusty - it's painted steel - so as the coolant needs to be changed this year it's going to get to replaced. At the time of writing, on eBay here in the UK there are several sellers doing a kit of genuine cooler, bolt and filter to block seal for £140 (say $180) which suggests it's a good idea to replace the last one while you're getting your hands dirty. FWIW the first parts to break on this car all FoMoCo on them, starting with the RH engine mount rubber. First Mazda part to fail was the thermostat at 15 years and it got replaced with a Ford one. I know, I know - but it was cheaper than aftermarket ones and way less than a Mazda one from the dealership.
This gave me a great laugh :) Thanks for that!
great video to make fun Mazda and Ford relationship.. instead the advise to not use the fake oil seal 👍🏼😛
First , crappy ford part in mazda !!! Thank you Sir. When I got my cx3 , I made sure it was made and assembled in JAPAN !!! I was going for the 3 , but , but , no Japan , no purchase. Anyway , thank you so much for this video Sir , I hope I don't have to pay $200.00 , for a seal . SHITTTTTTT.
Outstanding video!
I have a 2010 Mazda 5, it has the NEW oil cooler you discussed. Be aware that the more expensive gasket is for the Ford version as that sea; gasket is bigger. Fel-Pro makes a gasket for the NEW version oil cooler shown for $8, and the Ford version for $12. They are different sizes and NOT interchangeable. So funny, only 8 available in the entire State of Arizona when I was getting the oil seal gasket! Also, easier to provide your VIN number and get from MAZDA, as they know what you have on car. I went to Oreilly's and Autozone, and they both showed BOTH types of seals, but Zero explanation why it showed two seal types!!! One is for the Ford junk piece, the other is for the Mazda unit. Also, remember, to change the gasket on the engine. Its a Fel Pro paper gasket. By the time the Mazda oil seal fails, most likely the gasket on the engine mount that is attached to the cooler is failing. I had to replace both! And fair warning, you have to drain both radiator and oil ! As you have water running thru the oil cooler, and oil into the oil cooler from engine block ! So, its a bit messy job, but not that difficult, its is time consuming. I also, replaced the water lines that attach to the oil cooler, mine were not in good shape, and only Mazda has hoses that fit. They are preformed, so forget aftermarket hoses!
iam changeling my oil cooler in few days it will cost me $500 I love the cx7 2007 they have great power and great to drive
For an older Mazda not worth it, If you have a newer vehicle its worth it, I changed the gasket on mine and it lasted 7 years and I spent $12 and I’m now replacing it again for another $12 and more then likely it will last the rest of the life of my vehicle which is a 2006 Mazda 5 with 205,000 miles on it. Great video though 👍 love the Ford Mazda jokes lol

If you are doing it yourself, maybe. But if you are paying someone to do it, paying 150$ for the parts to convert to a better cooler is probably worth it. My guy quoted me 340$ to replace the seal, change oil and new coolant. Said he would throw the updated cooler on for the same price if I supplied the parts, cost me 153$ shipped on ebay direct from japan. Could of got it quicker from washington but it was about 200$.
can we fit 05 mada miata to 9 mazda 5 engine oil cooler?
Thank you sir for this detailed info on that junk oil cooler. I do have a leak just as described and i couldn't figure out where it was coming from. lol You sure saved me a headache and going to hell. LOL I;m going to order this part. Thanks again :)
...my question is, can these units be found in other Mazda vehicles with the 2.3L engine inline-4, at Salvage yard? ....and are they compatible?
@irish6976
Жыл бұрын
yes, you can find oil coolers from later vehicles, the FORD part is for the oil canister filter and why it uses the bigger seal, the NEW MAZDA filter shown (silver) is for a "spin on" oil cooler. but the Mazda filter scavenged off an later MAZDA 3 should fit, provided its the same engine type.
This does not apply for mazda mpv lx van 2005 does it????
Would this fix a mazdaspeed6 also?
I have a 2017 mazda 6 2.5 engine oil in coolant and coolant in oil. Could this be my problem?
Awesome thanks man
Does it fit Mazda 6 2.0L 108kw oem LF9v14700a?
thank you very much
Mazda should make recall. With our mazda 5 we paid over $400 to repair current one. New one is $300 plus. Its so bad. So much stress. Make recall please
Have a Mazda 5. Wish I had seen this video. Anyone that has a 5 knows that searching Mazda 5 xxx comes up with almost nothing. Had a minor leak (from above the filter, now know it is the oil cooler), that turned into a major leak very fast. Now a bent rod and it’s less money to go with something else than it is to replace/repair my motor now that I have bent a rod (no mistaking the sound). At 160,000 (over 100,000 in the past 4 year I put on her) may my 5 Rest In Peace. Was good to me but not worth it for me to fix.
nice!

What is the part # for the the correct Mazda one i have 07 mazda5 going through this now read thread but cant find part # for silver one thkx
I'm having a hard time working out if this fits the mzr 2.3 motor as people are saying it's for the 2.5 motor and others say it's only for 2010 upwards so I'm confused

Furthermore using it with this part is it compatible with mzr2.3 or only 2.5 and above 2010 models of CX7 L311-14-311A purchased with this part you have listed with gasket and bolt hopefully didn't buy the wrong parts for my car
What is wrong with my Madza3 it was pouring oil we put a oil kit and it's still leaking
Why mazda don't make a recall? Mazda has alot of generic parts, engine, suspension, etc.

Montez Holton Ebay has genuine Mazda oil cooler for sale alone or as a kit with the bolt and block gasket (metal gasket).. the cooler itself comes with the rubber o-ring pre-installed on it already...

Thank you for this helpful video. I just want to be absolutely sure I am ordering the correct part. Can you please verify if this is the correct part for my 2008 Mazda CX7? www.ebay.com/i/192166514375?chn=ps&dispItem=1 And actually, I also found this other eBay for a little cheaper. Do you think these two are exactly the same? www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-MAZDA-UPGRADE-ENGINE-OIL-COOLER-3-5-6-CX-7-CX7-LF6W-14-700A-OEM/192328742794?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908110712%26meid%3Db76a30ae40794aed8a67ea6f5bd2efad%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D30%26sd%3D192166514375&_trksid=p2385738.c100677.m4598 Thanks so much.

Can i Drive my Mazda 6 without oil cooler. Is it necessary?
It's not like it's total crap, they will go at least 80k miles. I do agree that Ford parts are crap though, After all it does stand for Federal Ordinance Requires Demolition.
Why not just replace with $20 seal and when it leaks again put another seal i don't get it.

Umm, Ford was the only one of the big three that DIDNT take bailout money. As a matter of historical fact, Ford's CEO lobbied for the bailout bill because it feared that a collapse from GM and Chrysler (who both took bailout money) would have hurt supplies and thereby hurt Ford itself. Ford DID take out nearly 6 billion in government loans to retool their some factories to produce more fuel efficient models.
