I'm excited to rehab the old Maytag washer. The wife bought and electric one three years ago and the control panel is already acting up. I appreciate an older, simpler appliance. Thanks for a helpful video

I am rebuilding this exact machine for an elderly friend who loves her machine. It stopped agitating and I found that the upper transmission shaft had seized. I watched this video so I knew what to expect and what parts I would need to reassemble the washer. I ordered the tub seal and bearing kits ahead of time because I knew I would need them. Once I found the problem, I ordered a new upper shaft, O-ring and lower transmission seal. Should be here soon. I wasn't able to find a video on rebuilding the transmission itself but once you get into it, it's simple. Theapplianceman might want to show a transmission rebuild for those less confident, oil type and quantity would be good info too. Great videos, very thorough, easy to understand and very helpful to those that don't want to spend $800-$1000 on an electronic washer that will go bad in a few years. I'll have about $150 in my repair not counting refreshments. It's a great machine and easy to repair. Thumbs up!!

this video doesnt cover replacing the sleeve that sits on the transmission. Also doesnt cover what to lube the new sleeve bearing with. Most people dont have turbine oil that Ive read is recommended for sleeve bearings.

My machine couldn't go into the spin cycle with a full load of wet clothes. Replacing and adjusting the belts worked for a bit but was getting worse. I replaced my bearings following your instructions and now everything is back to normal. Awesome instructions.

You did a nice job with your video and explanation! However, it would have been helpful if you explained WHY you are replacing the tub bearing??? Does this have anything to do with my machine shaking violently during the spin cycle?

You either overlooked,or forgot to mention, one very important part of changing the bearing and that's the bearing sleeve that goes on the shaft before reinstalling the outer tub.Otherwise,a great video.

I put the sleeve on the transmission but you are right I forgot to mention it on the video. I do everything alone to make these videos and is easy to forget something sometimes. Thanks for reminding me .

No problem.I've been online looking for videos to repair my old Maytag A710,it started leaking on me.I'm not sure how old it is but I've had it 20 years and it was used-but like new when I bought it.I got the washer and electric dryer for $400 and this is the first repair on either of them.I had to chisel the tub nut off and beat and beat to get the mounting stem to break loose. Then I had to chisel the bearing sleeve off, that's why I noticed you hadn't said anything about it.To top it all off, while putting the bearing in I noticed some rust on the tub.Wire brushing that caused little holes to appear and there are no outer tubs available anywhere,so I hope the JB Weld holds and I don't need to replace the washer.

Great job on all your videos. They have been a great help in trying to run down the problem. I have tightened the belts, I have checked for clothing stuck between the tubs, and I have removed the tub by removing the spanner nut. How do I know if I have a transmission or a bearing problem, since my tub wont spin in the rinse cycle and I smell rubber burning (the belts)?

Same problem. Found it was my tub bearing rusted and stuck.

Great video! I'm stuck on trying to remove the bearing sleeve. I see other users commenting about using a chisel to cut it out, but no idea if there is a specific place where to hit the sleeve to reduce damage on the transmission. What about using a dremel, any heat concerns? Do you have any recommendation or video pointers on this topic? Thanks in advance for your support!

Try removing the spin drum and see if it spins with out the drum. if it does, the something is holding the drum when you put it in
