Thanks so much for this video. My daughter is about an hour away at school and not knowing how extensive the repairs might be, I had someone lined up to go take a look. After watching your video, I decided to take a look myself. I had the exact problem you describe with SEVERAL small pads that had come out of her sports bras caught in the trap. Got everything removed, put everything back together, slid it in place and she purrs like a kitten. The only thing I would add is to put a wet/dry shop vac on the drain hose that comes out of the back of the machine, just to make sure.....

11/8/22-- You may or may not be aware that Maytag and Whirlpool are clones in slightly different skin. On a Saturday night with just one more load to do we got that F9/E1 code. The front loader door is locked and sopping wet clothes are sitting in the drum. No appliance service companies open until Monday. Google led me to KZread and there were a few videos like this demonstrating the solution. Whether you own a Maytag or a Whirlpool the part is identical and the solution the same. But the filter was not clogged except for a few small coins and safety pins. Turns out that if the filter is not clogged it is the pump itself. That requires a pump replacement. I turned to the Whirlpool parts site. They want $75. Turned to Amazon and they asked $53. Job is not too hard and disassembly is fairly easy with two small sockets. The pain is reassembly as you have to hold the pump in place while screwing it back in place, upside down.

I have the Maytag Maxima MHW6000XW that was throwing the E01 F09 code and the "Sud" code and found these videos showing how to check the drain trap. This model has the pump/drain trap in the front which is hard to access but this video shows a great easy way to get at it. It definitely works and once I got the trap out there was all kinds of stuff in there. As mentioned, the real challenge is getting the metal spring loaded seal hoop back on the gray rubber seal boot once you are all done. It CAN be done by hand, but I highly recommend having another person help hold the hoop in place at a couple spots while you do the final stretch and pull over the lip and snap it in place. I couldn't do it all by myself, but with a helper got it on the first time. Also, FYI there's another video showing another black hose to check for blocks that's in the back of the unit with clamps on both sides....it's easy to reach and worth checking for cleaning out as well.

I’m about to do the same for my washer. I was wondering, can you access the drain by pulling the washer out slightly and propping it up? Mine is in a very tight spot and if I don’t have to take off the back that would be best (trying to access everything from the front side). I know you said you gave yours away already but maybe someone else knows? Thanks for your videos! *Update* I had to take off the back and pull off the drain hose that runs from the bottom of the drum to the back of the pump. A good bit of water came out (cookie sheet didn’t hold it all) and I found panties, Bobby pins, and change in there. Cleaned and reassembled, then went to the front to see how that stuff got in. The front rubber seal that goes around the drum wasn’t sealing the top half of the drum, so I put it back on. I’m guessing that’s how stuff got into the pump to begin with, so check that seal if you find anything clogging your pump. I hope this helps someone!

Once you get the trap out and cleaned you should run water by dumping it into the tub and letting it drain back down into the bowl. You'd be surprised at how much gunk is loosely floating around in the drain line. Good video overall.

It worked! Mine is a Maytag front load washer. The trap had four coins (amongst other debris). The only thing that didn’t go according to plan was a kind of grinding noise when I plugged the washer back in. It didn’t power on right away. It took a few minutes for the noise to subside and power on. Maybe the motor is going bad? Did a few wash cycles after that and the error code is gone. 😀

Thank you! Yes I would say it’s the pump. Mine kept giving me an error code after a few months after cleaning it out. I’m thinking the blockage damaged the pump. I gave it away on Craigslist and the guy that took it ended up replacing the pump and he said it’s works good now.

I would never have bought this machine had I known how hard it was to get to this filter cleaner. My washer / dryer is stacked and I don't know if I can move it away from the wall, meaning I am probabaly going to pay out the wazoo for a repair man.

Never seen that! Here is what I found. Do not overload your washer: The wash load must be balanced and not tightly packed. A large unbalanced load could result in a reduced spin speed and wet clothes at the end of the cycle. Load garments in loose heaps evenly around the basket wall. Load with dry items only. Add only 1 or 2 garments after the washer has started. Empty pockets and use garment bags for small items. Small items can get caught in pump or between basket and tub, which can slow draining. If clothing gets out of balance, there will be movement in the basket which will result in noise and vibration. Place the load evenly around the basket.

I guess it is my drain pump. I opened the trap and about 5 gallons of dirty water came out. I cleaned the trap and proceeded to reset my machine. It filled up and washed and then the error code again. 🙄🙄🙄

Had the same issue. Cleaned the filter and the error code came on again. I replaced the pump and it worked for 3 loads then the same error came on again. Not sure what to do now. Trying moving away from pods and back to liquid to see if the pods are causing a suds issue, although they were He pods.
