My gosh! What a great instruction video! I don't think I'm going to have to replace this part, but if I did, I, a novice, would feel perfectly safe and competent to do it. There are not many like you! Thank you!

Thank You, Your video helped with the replacement of my igniter, The oven your working on here is the same model I have. There was no need to cut and spice the wires there is an access panel in the back of the oven where you can access the wires for the igniter and a quick disconnect, Simply plug and play, Old to New.

Good instructions; I followed them and it worked out perfectly. I did make one change however. I saved the braided insulation , slid it over the wires leading to the new igniter, thus having enhanced insulation from the igniter to the opening in the oven wall.

Hi and thanks for the great video. I have the same oven and the ignitor was not glowing. I replaced it by an oem igniter but still not working. I measured the voltage coming to the igniter and was only 2 volt. I guess it should be about 110 volt. Can you please tell me what could be the problem? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the Video !!!! Mine had plastic connectors which was a plus. Tip! I started to remove igniter and screws were so tight and a little rusted that it was starting to bend the burner mount.I then put a couple of drops of Liguid Wrench penetrating oil on screws and let it soak for about an hour and then they came off very easy. ( Don't soak it as a couple of drops will do the trick) and make sure you clean the mount off before installing the new part as you definitely do not want any oil on the new element. In fact I used cotton gloves when handling new element just to make sure no oil touched it. Worked great and saved me a repair fee for a simple fix.

I have had to do this a few times in my LG range. I believe if you hit the clean button or do some cooking on a very hot oven this will deteriorate this little glow stick breaking it down. So the more you cook at these high heats or set the oven on the clean cycle the more times this glow stick or igniter will have to be replaced

I have a 2012 Whirlpool gas double oven range and the top oven will not start on bake, it seems to work fine on Broil. So, I am attempting to remove the igniter and have taken the two screws off the igniter and trying to remove it. I got it off but there is not electrical plug like on your video and others. Will I need to remove the back of the range and get to the plug from there?

Excellent video! I have a Whirlpool range, model #WGG555S0BS01. It started as not broiling or self-cleaning a little over a year ago. I changed the igniter (not an oem part) in December 2018, but it did not fix the problem, although it has heated properly until last night. Now, the upper oven is completely dead, with no signs of even trying to ignite or heat. The lower oven and all of the stove burners work perfectly. Does this sound like a bad igniter, yet again? I'm considering buying the OEM part this time in the hopes that this will fix the problem. Would you recommend the OEM igniter as the fix for my oven? Thanks!

Matt, I could use some advice. I have a jennaire gas stove and the oven doesn't ignite. The broiler does but not the oven, so I put an OHM meter across the igniter it had connectivity but I ordered a new igniter anyway. The new one draws a lot less OHMs so I installed it as per your video. Fired it up and nothing. I checked the wire coming in and going out of the igniter and both wires have 120 volts when bake is selected so it's completing the circuit but the igniter won't glow. The oven defaults to 100 degs. I don't think I have two faulty igniters? I would really appreciate any advice. Brad

Wow, your video is the best of any other ones on here!! I have an old Tappan TGF362BBBA, and it has been acting up for a while now. The last few months when I would press Preheat, the oven would heat up, but it took about 45 minutes. Now the igniter is just glowing orange and not heating through the tube. The good thing is that the burners and broiler are working. Do you think the oven igniter just needs replaced? This oven has a dual gas safety valve, could it be that? I hope not, because it wouldn't be worth replacing! I tried using a multi-meter to check the gas safety valve, but I'm confused as to how to really check it. I can't pull my range out from the wall because it is way to heavy, and that's why I really like how you show to replace the igniter by doing it inside the oven! Any help you could give is very appreciated, thank you!!

WHAT ABOUT IF YOU DO NOT EVEN SMELL GAS? The top burners work, but the broiler/oven does not. Even if the igniter is bad shouldn't you smell gas when turned on??

+Andrew Anselmo No, the oven has more safety measures as the oven goes on & off to maintain temperature. Older models with a gas pilot light had a thermostat near the pilot flame that controlled the valve. Electronic starters could use a thermostat or a sensor that monitors the current going through the igniter.

is it NOT necessary to put thermal insulation back over the new wiring?

I am wondering the exact same thing. The wires will have a little bit of insulation on them but it is not quite as heavy duty as what he cuts through.

Did anyone ever post an explanation to this? I am about to undertake this procedure and would like to avoid a bunch of melted wires.

  • @thetacobelcanon

John Hardison basically tried my best to cover those wires. Not perfect, but nothing has melted yet. After the igniter is installed there is very little of the wiring that is exposed to the oven side. Most is behind the range. If in doubt, fireproof insulation can be found at any hardware store. I realize this comes a couple months late. Hope it helps the next guy.

No. The heating element is the ceramic parts. The two long greyish things that stick out of the end of ignitor . Don't touch with bare hands.

+Jerk Ric I had this problem as well: Igniter would click and spark and even glow blue for a moment, but the gas tube wouldn't light. The problem was there was too much air blowing and the flame wouldn't light. The solution (for mine) was to adjust the air intake at the back (where the gas enters the compartment and then goes to the broiler tube.) I loosened the small screw and rotated the collar to close the opening and reduce the air (but not gas flow). It was a little stuck at first (backed grease and crud) so you may need to clean it to take apart. It fixed everything like a charm. Happy Broiling !!

Yes the hot surface ignitor is still likely at fault. As they age the resistance increases which eventually prevents the solenoid opening and letting gas flow.
