    Great video! I’ve got all the insulation out and it was burrowed with burnt hair in it but no mouse body. We have an LG and there is a metal box that’s under the cavity that has two smalls holes at the bottom. We’re assuming the mouse went from insulation and maybe in that box. Not sure how to look inside or access it. Any idea/advice?

    The top of my electric range (coils) gets really hot when the oven is running around 400. Is it safe to ADD insulation to that which is already there? Brand new range. Not thrilled, but it looks like all the new ones have this problem.

  • @appliancepartspros

    We generally recommend sticking to factory specs. Ovens do have heat vents, which can be under an eye or at the back of the stove top. This small vent at the top of the oven cavity allows some of the hot oven air to escape to the room which in turn allows more air to enter the oven cavity. This continual cycle allows the oven to heat uniformly from bottom to top. If this is what's causing the heat, additional insulation won't help, and blocking the venting will decrease the functionality of the oven. It seems counter intuitive to let some of the hot air out of the oven, but without that circulation, food would take longer to cook.

    We are doing this as we speak.... I wonder if it would be ill advised to spray your new insulation down with bleach to deter the mice from taking up new residence? I have read that it's bad idea to add any kind of wire mesh onto the back of the stove or anything like that.

  • @appliancepartspros

    @appliancepartspros

    6 жыл бұрын

    We wouldn't recommend spraying it with bleach. You could try peppermint oil around the area, which is a nontoxic rodent deterrent. Plug up any holes in the areas surrounding wiring conduits to keep them from getting in.

    Good idea, Jack. My husband is a rail fan also. More like nut! We put some little tin foil boats filled with peppermint in open areas on the insulation. So far, so good.... but it's also not winter any longer. Borax is worth a try. I figured bleach might be dangerous when heated; unsure if borax is also dangerous.

    Is there a reason you used a screw driver instead of a drill? and should the gas line be disconnected before doing this? Yesterday, I asked my landlord to replace the fiberglass due to mice droppings and as he bemoaned and detailed the number of screws that have to be removed he told me there was nothing he could do. Needless to say I'll soon be paying someone to do this job and will deduct the cost from the rent.

    No asbestos, however fiberglas insulation does shed, and the fibers, if inhaled, are a health risk. So the installer "should" be wearing gloves and at least a dust mask, just like professional insulation installers do, and should clean the work area afterwards.

    Eh.. the fiberglass will actually put little microscopic cuts in the bronchials inside your lungs and will allow more oxygen to be able to be absorbed. First go get a small glass aquarium and fill the bottom with insulation. Then go get a feeder mouse from pet shop. Next put mouse in insulation with a little food and water. Put a lid on it and leave it for a week. After a week go take the cover off and smell, look at how much the mouse had torn up the insulation, look at all the poo and pee everywhere.. then notice how a decaying mouse makes the insulation... then go make a home for mice in your stove... lol
