Maytag Performa PAV2300AWW Drain Pump with Pulley

A very short how to remove, inspect and reinstall Drain Pump with Pulley for Maytag PAV2300AWW washer. If bearings are not noisy this part can be opened up, cleaned and re-installed.

I have an update to this repair, hopefully this comment will stay at the top. I used your video last night to confirm that it was my pump, but it can be repaired (yours could have too). You know that metal piece that's on the shaft making the noise? In the video, you stated that you didn't know what that piece was...well, it's the bearing race/shim. I learned that last night. That shim will rub up against the metal housing, causing the squealing noise. So, take the 4 1/4" screws off the bottom of the housing...Once you do that, you will see a Torx (star looking screw head bit) screw dead center of the top of the housing. Take that screw out and keep it. Then, with a Phillips head screwdriver, put the metal pulley off the ground and support it on either side so that it can come down when you strike the top. Now that you have the pulley off the ground, but supported on either side of it (I used a vise, but you could put a 2x4 on either side of the pulley, that will raise it enough), take a Phillips screwdriver and put it, point down, in the threads of where the Torx came out. Give it one good strike, and the whole bearing assembly will pop out of the bottom. BUT NOTE where everything goes as it comes apart. There is a plastic washer in there that has a rubber O-Ring...note which direction the O-Ring faces...For example, is the O-Ring facing up, or down on the shaft (I can't remember now). Now, that piece you said you didn't know what it was, just take the bearing out, and push that back down into the metal assembly, and then simply press the bearing back in (it's a tight fit). That piece simply holds the bearing tightly into the assembly, and can simply work it's way up to the bottom of the assembly due to vibrations and start the squeaking. Now, put everything back together in reverse order, and viola, you just saved yourself $30 bucks! That metal piece is still good, and so is the bearing, so it's just a matter of the shim working its way up over time. If you catch this problem soon enough, nothing is damaged beyond repair. If the bearing shim/race was destroyed because you let it run too long while squeaking, then cut a soda can into strips, and keep adding layers around the bearing until it is a GOOD tight pressure fit, or until it will no longer wobble in the assembly. I reassembled mine (again, after your excellent video), and it is as quiet as the day she came off the line...and I expect her to stay that way another 5 years! I hope this helps a lot of people save $$$. It is stupid that they make you think you have to buy a complete assembly because of their faulty shims working lose over time. BEAT their system and fix the one you have!

Mark Price thanks for the input our washing machine stopped draining and I used a standard screwdriver stuck in between the frame and the Shime and kept turning the screwdriver side to side to press the shim back into the pully all the way around and put the belt back on and put the cover back on and it runs like its brand new. Thanks for every thing.

@@tracyparks2012 i had this same issue and though mine doesnt go all the way back in i have been able to get it running again as well. @Mark Price i am sooooo glad i saw your comment. that is exactly what happened on ours except oddly the shim managed to dig into the housing and then jam the unit(along with some crud in the pump itself). got it worked back down and it is free spinning nicely. but now i am heavily waffling on going the extra distance and doing your method to fully reseat it.

Well any pump with loose pieces inside it is shot. You didn't check the shaft for play that would have told you.

That metal you pulled out is a bra underwire.
